Granted, I don't think you ever actually see his sword. Maybe he manages to cut the feathers with nothing but his raw samurai spirit.
My brother insists there must be a sword but as far as I can tell he just cuts feathers with his Ki. That's his power! Edgeworth has indomitable logic, Fransiska has whip skills, Klavier has terrible music! Everyone has a power in Ace Attorney world.
Plus, in the very first intro cinematic with him you get a full body shot of him and I'm preeeeety sure there's no sword. If I had the DS that had the game downloaded on me I would check.
Man! I miss Fransiska. I wish they were porting over Investigations 2 instead of Layton versus Wright. I suspect I would enjoy it more.
Case 3, watching a video in an attempt to prove that a certain person could be considered a suspect...
I thought I figured out the inconsistency on the very first line.
Watching Professor Means' speech to prove it was prerecorded...he opens saying "good afternoon," and the clock at the top clearly says 10:00. That's a pretty decent reason for suspicion.
Then Athena just had to notice something even more obvious later...and then we find out that the time was in minutes and not hours.
Whatever, game! I think that would've been a funnier twist, it's the very first thing he says that trips him up.
You see Blackquill's sword. One of his better animations is when he tries to pull it out with the shackles still on but they prevent him from drawing it.

Uh, during that animation it's pretty obvious that it's just his finger. Seriously, I look every time. No hilt, no guard, just a hand with a pointing finger. He wants to point but is prevented from doing so.
Am I the only one who wasn't really all that impressed by the last case?
I mean, it certainly has its moments, and the whole seven-years-ago segment is solid, but on the whole I didn't think it stood up to previous finales. (Except maybe Apollo Justice's finale, which I can barely even remember.) The Phantom reveal was kind of neat in a shock value sort of way, but it doesn't really amount to anything. That whole final segment largely fell flat to me, because everything that anybody cared about had already been resolved by then.
What would have REALLY happened if the Phantom had walked on some technicality? The Blackquill siblings would be pretty mad and...that's about it. Athena's already acquitted, Simon's conviction is already overturned, everybody knows who killed who. I guess it wouldn't be ideal for Edgeworth's whole "make everyone confident in the justice system again" plan, but since the only reason we know that the Dark Age of the Law even exists is that nobody shuts up about it, I wasn't terribly invested in that either. All of the big narrative and emotional payoffs happen in the seven-years-ago case and then you just putter around tying up a handful of minor loose ends where the actual climax was supposed to be.
Well, a dangerous spy would have gone free, GYAXA would likely have completely shut down out of fear of further terrorism, and the murders of Metis, Clay, and (presumably) Bobby Fulbright never have been brought to justice.
Yes, Athena and Simon were safe at that point (that's even highlighed in the game over sequence at that point in the case), but can you really tell me that you wouldn't have cared if they'd failed to nail that bastard?
I'm on the third case now, but won't bookmark this thread for fear of spoilers. Although it's probably already been mentioned, this had me cracking up (case 3 spoiler):
Athena: "Take that Birdman!"
Blackquill: "Birdman?!"
Nice jab at the Harvey Birdman blatant rip-off games.

I was a bit disappointed that the knife wound never came up when proving the phantom's identity. I thought for sure there'd be a scene where he was forced to remove his gloves and there'd still be a scar on his right hand. Also, the phantom's "angry" animation has him raise his (right) fist at the camera, and you can see a vein pressing against his glove. It made so much sense to me that that would be the result of a big scar, rather than just an extremely prominent vein.
Then again, I guess it makes sense that a master of disguise would be able to hide a scar. I still think it would have been a neat reveal.

Oh yeah, I thought the same thing.
I remember several things I thought for sure were going to come up and would've made sense. There were so many little hints and evidence that might've been used one way or another.
Even though I know by now that the game rests on a weird justice system where the most improbably stupid things somehow remain hangups toward getting your verdict, it's still really annoying whenever that comes up, like at the end of the last case:
"Oh I tripped and fell and got blood on the rock a while back." Ok, whatever! Why does the evidence always have to be 100% irrefutable?!
You prove it's a match by testing Athena's earring. But why stop there? Why doesn't he say, "oh yeah, prove you had the earring all those years ago! Prove it's the same one, and not one that was just made a few minutes ago to entrap me!" And then you show a picture of her with it as a kid, and then he's like "we don't know for sure that it's the exact same earring! Maybe you lost it and just had this one made!" Because why the hell not. The judge isn't on your side, so any doubt they can raise, however unlikely, will get them off the hook.
So apparently there's a Sharknado reference in the DLC case.
I can confirm the Sharknado reference in the DLC case.
Mild DLC spoiler
In case case 5 wasn't proof enough, Capcom absolutely nailed Pearl's animations, and in fact they're better than in the 2d games. Her swooning animation is especially excellent.

it's great presentation-wise. Kinda wish it had more consequences or imitated edgeworth's logic system more.

EDIT: geez what the hell
I leave to go get lunch and Major Tom is on the radio.

And he can cut people down with it.
Blackquill is basically a Dragon Ball Z character.

It's the logical conclusion.
Holy shit, case 5.

....... sorry. I uh, I really enjoyed this game everyone. *cough*
Case 5 really was excellent, it's definitely one of the best cases in the whole series..I couldn't say if I like it or 2-4 better.

Decided to look at my playtime...
44 hours and 30 minutes.
I play slow.
Ok, admittedly a lot of that time was playing while half distracted by something else.

Of AA1. Finally getting started on a series I own nearly every game of but haven't beaten one of.
