Posting in the doodle thread because one webcomic isn't "new webcomic thread" worthy (I made that mistake before)
I've heard the joke sucks, so if that's the case I'll work on that, but any tips for the shading? It was my first time trying actual shading so I don't know if I screwed up the light sources or what. Also, any good lineart tips for photoshop? I was using a 20 point brush at 600 dpi with pressure sensitivity at max on a bamboo with 512 levels.
Yeah, they do all look really similar. I'm basically working on not just drawing dots for eyes at this point, so I haven't thought about variety much. I'll try to mix it up.

I still don't know anatomy without a reference, and I'm positive the dude's arms are too short. And his fingers are probably double-jointed. And his jaw looks curiously shifted.

some doodles i maked yesterday
there is a hard tangent between me and travis in the sappy illustration i made of our first date
i might try to fuck around with it later.
The other one is just super quick three value studies of the types of trees on my street.
Mango I think the problem is just that, from what I can tell, you aren't really doing any studies aside from these drawings.
Are you doing facial studies? Even if you don't live in an area with bus-stops and malls to sit in the shadows and sketch random strangers minding their own business, you can still find plenty of references on Gettyimages, or even just through casual googling. That should help break you out of this habit of drawing stuff that mostly looks exactly the same.
Same with doing figure studies. This is all old hat around here. The reason your guy looks so stiff, and why he has gorilla arms, is because you haven't really forced yourself to pay attention to the natural flow of the human body, center of balance, and how lighting like that works.
Basically you seem to be trying to make it up as you go along, so, yeah, that's why you're getting frustrated.
mully: I kind of understand where you're coming from thinking that it's a sad atmosphere, but part of what makes it so good is that its a cute, warm moment in an otherwise cold, dreary environment. IMO

i think it just ties to memories, the atmosphere
for me, i see two people knowing they have to leave each other and will never see each other again ... they wanted to sit at the lake, this is the last time they have to do it together, and the weather sucks but they are doing it anyway. because it's the last time.
and i have no clue why i see it like that ... but. BRAIN!
It was the quality of the image that made me happy, not the mood Also the cuteness of the guy/girl - father/daughter kinda thing going on. It makes me happy
Also, I think the upper arms on that drawing are too short...and I think the last piece I saw from you had a similar issue - maybe just watch for that next time.
Trying to mix it up some with more unique features, while watching the Desert Bus stream.
Good god, no wonder they're all so sad.
They look good, but I think the mouth lines on the second one from the left on the lower row blend a little too much with the lines leading down to the corners of his mouth. Try something to make the mouth itself distinguishable from those lines, maybe darken them a bit, or fully separate the mouth itself from those lines?

It was our first date! The weather had been super hot for a while, then it downpoured one night where he lives. He messaged me to ask if I wanted to sit in the rain with him by the lake near his house and I did so I drove from LA to Trabuco Canyon at 1 in the morning and got soaked in the rain with him. For the first time in months I felt like I was home I love the rain.

Taking a break from longer projects to doodle.
I've been trying really hard to focus on rendering, composition, and color. I'm glad it's starting to have an effect!
And I know the tie is supposed to be folding, but now I really want a lightening bolt tie.
Somehow I just noticed that his eyes were insanely high up on his head. So I fixed it.
He still looks janky, though.
Shit that's nice.
I sketched these in class this morning.

I don't like this one as much as the other, but here it is anyways!

Soooo good. This makes me happy
And I totally hadn't noticed the gorilla arms, so I definitely need to get to work on the stuff you mentioned.
(I uh... I still don't really know how to appropriately respond to straight up praise...)
Beav: The color palette in the rain one is swoon worthy. Those value studies are also really neat.

i was supposed to stop at 4 hours but i went over ... a bit. >.< had to make myself stop.
t beavo: its a beautiful drawing, and i saw someone say it makes them happy ... for some reason, it strikes me as really sad, the atmosphere.
