So I decided to check my bedrock mining station today, and it was full of skeletons
Mining and spelunking are way more tense now knowing you could have a creeper fall on your head at any time, hehe.
Ghastball continues to amuse me to no end as well. It's gonna take a while though before I can create my obsidian fortress in hell. Stupid portal decided to spawn on top of a thin ledge way high up from the sea.
you can! they light up Just put a torch under a pumpkin in the crafting menu and BOOM! there ya go i have a bunch of tile'd walls with lit-up-pumpkins. They make the room verry bright thankfully.

The Lightstone found in the Nether is my underwater light of choice.
Also there is a bug associated with returning from the nether, I looked a few pages bck and didnt see this picture but it sums up the problem nicely.
edit: this same issue extends in a way to positioning the third portal in the overworld, if the third spot is a lake or inside a mountain it will shuffle around and often into a dark hole in the ground filled with the worst things imaginable.
Yeah... i have 4 portals now when i only built one, kinda annoying.
But if you are farming Obsidian, this is a good thing.
Yes, you can break down one part of the portal frame and travel back to your original portal, go through and back again, another portal will be created next to the dead portal from earlier.
also you only need a frame of 10 obsidian. you can skip the corners.
I can't wait to see what kind of things people are making with the new materials. I already started experimenting a little with building things out of portals.
The hellbeasts have already started to come through! What have I done?!
Everyone assumed that portals would be the "walk through" kind like in Portal (or anything else). As such, they were asking for different sizes and orientations, so that you could make a cart track that dumps the player directly into hell.
But that won't work with the "stand inside it" type of portal.
i just found this while digging and have never come across anything like this before, I know the block on fire is a spider spawn block, but I didnt know you could find chests with items in them and torches already placed on the map

yeah! that is a dungeon, which notch added a little while ago! they can have pig saddles in those chests if you are lucky
I was thinking about two projects... the first, a simple Central American type pyramid, so that I can get used to constructing large structure. The second, a round and spiralling Tower of Babel type thing. The only problem with the second is constructing a round structure, and figuring out how big to make it.
Anybody know where I can find info on making round buildings?

Ever since the update my game has been running it what I would call "fast forward"; it feels like everything is running double time, and it's making it difficult to build anything when I'm placing 2 blocks at once all the time. Anyone else experienced this and know how to fix it?
Well, I actually figured this out. I restarted my computer and it's fine.

Torches already placed on the map? That can't happen, can it?
Oh yeah, and I spotted something new and frightening while spelunking in some topside caverns. I didn't see him in the light, just a glowing face in the darkness. Died before I could muster the health to return to where I saw him...

Make a portal at the top of the pyramid, sacrifice animals to appease the dark gods.
Man I am so glad I set up to farm these skelly and spider spawners. Ranged weapons is pretty much necessary for the Slip.
Is there a way to fix portals now? I just want to be able to return to the one in my base. Or do I need to deconstruct all of them in the overworld and rebuild them to reset everything?

Seems like Ghasts are actually really easy to kill, they can't do much damage to you at all. They're only dangerous when you're afraid of them and let them chase you around in a panic so you die to fire/lava/cliffs.
I get finished decking out my secret underground portal chamber and then down the rabbit hole I go. I'm playing peaceful because I don't want to get chased around by ghasts while boldly going where no blocky man has gone before. I pop out right next to Australium, so I mine that, set up a cobblestone/halfblock building around my portal so as to be a safehouse of sorts, then go wandering off. I mine some slowsand, more Australium, and go down several hundred blocks to fill buckets with lava source blocks. After coming back up and making it back to the portal to see if anything happened (I didn't know what to expect), I go off laying down torches so I can go and make another portal in the distance for fast-travel. I see an unusually dark spot, and trundle over. I get a lag spike because suddenly the game was rendering a shitton of lava and empty space, and then I find myself falling through said empty space and die instantly upon plunging into the lake of fire. I loose several stacks of cobble, my diamond shovel, my iron picks, what I believe to be most of my iron, stacks of torches I'd been saving up for a lantern-conversion that never came, and all of the Australium I mined.
I yelled, pouted, and like every time I die in Alpha at catastrophic cost, I resolved not to touch this bloody game for a week or so. Stupid Nether.
edit: I remember why I came to post in the first place in addition to vent; screw you Notch. Your bastard child SMP is crying on the doorstep, and by telling him he'll have to wait until "beta" for all of these fixes, to run with the metaphor, you probably won't open the door for the unfortunate fucker until this time next year.
Haven't played in a while. Downloaded the update and I get fucked up graphic anomalies when I play. Is that one of the new "bugs" people are talking about or is something wonky now?

I decided to light up a square of stone in front of my hell portal to brighten things up a bit. Pigman decided that was a good time to jump right into my fire.
Now I have 5 angry pig zombies camping my portal exit ffffffffff.

Is your portal near a big dropoff? If so, walk a million miles in that direction in the real world, make a new portal, and once back inside convince the pigmen to jump down so you can use your original portal in peace.
So, other than spiders, what has red eyes? I was playing SP and I saw something with red eyes. I hit it with my bow but it didn't flash a spider shape.

Use cobblestone, it seems to hold up to Ghast blasts pretty well.

The biomes I have got so far are pretty neat. I had a winter biome show up on the ocean so all the water I could see in front of me was frozen.

How do they work now? Hit them to rotate them?
As others have said, make molds in the shape of the portal, pour lava, pour water, repeat.

Are there any new blocks found in the normal world?
