Has anyone else had problems making watches? I'm putting the gold and redstone dust in the right configuration from everything I've seen (just like the compass, which works just fine), but nothing is showing up in the crafting table results. I am starting from a save that was started before the update, but I don't think that really affects anything...

Are you using the gold dust or gold? Its the compass shape with gold bars instead of iron not gold dust instead of iron.
speaking of multiplayer Ein or admins of Ein's server can i get build rights on the server and also can someone PM me the server IP? Ingame minecraft name is tophatandmonocle
Had a little more time to mess around today but still haven't checked out hell. Don't have much obsidian so going to try the cast/mold idea. I'm really liking the world generation now, every one I've made has been vastly different than the last.
Also, can I have an invite to the steam group? My steam name is Gurney

Does anyone know how to set up a map for a server? I'm trying to do just that for Social Entropy but I have no idea what I'm doing. I know that I'm working with out dated map tools and I'm ok with that, since I'm just trying to figure out how to do things.
I was thinking about two projects... the first, a simple Central American type pyramid, so that I can get used to constructing large structure. The second, a round and spiralling Tower of Babel type thing. The only problem with the second is constructing a round structure, and figuring out how big to make it.
Anybody know where I can find info on making round buildings?

I was on there for a few minutes today but I was horribly lagging with distance set at the lowest setting. I haven't changed anything on my laptop and I'm normally good with distance set to normal.
So I need info on how the server's been performing.
Ein: Just spent about 15 minutes on it. Chat lag is in the 1-to-2-minutes range, blocks are still disappearing, position lag causes you to teleport back to earlier spots without warning.
INVedit was the only way to do the grass, I gave myself a few starter blocks and the rest is growing. But everything else was mined with these fingers. Had to sack an old structure for the last bit of gold.

Karma just zapped my save file. All is lost. Was stealing grass from the gods so great an offense?
I actually saw a MineCraft costume at my local downtown trick or treat event. He was super excited that I knew what he was dressed up as. I should have snapped a picture, but I was running after my daughter at the time. I wonder if that person is in the thread? Anyone from McMinnville Oregon?
I still need to get myself a copy of this game. I have been having a lot of fun reading about everyone elses exploits, and I look forward to getting into it. I just don't have time for a while. Maybe I will wait until the Beta phase.

I only count three. Bloody Cobblestone, Light Blocks, Hellmud. What am I missing?
The purple portal blocks, pumpkins, and jack o' lanterns.. which is kind of a stretch since you can't freely use the portal blocks without cheating and pumpkins/jack o' lanterns are almost the same thing.
Oh yeah.. I haven't found any pumpkins yet, but can you stack them on top of each other? Having piles of two or three jack o' lanterns would be really neat. Actually, do you need to generate new chunks to find them or will they appear in pre-halloween areas?
so i have an attic above my little bedroom, and i dont know what to do with it, ive been decorating everything recently with tiled objects and such and making my dance room, lounge, fireplace, store room, incinerator (lava), and my entrance to my mining systems, but nothing comes to mind here. Any suggestions?
PS: my base is in a mountain and the attict is pretty close to the top so i guess that could add in more suggestions?

you need to look for them in new chucked areas, i haven't found any in my pre-halloween areas, but in my post-patch world i found close to 70.. then again that was around 5 hours of looking.

That reminds me, I love that hell is full of mushrooms. It reminds me of that quote from Monkey Island 1. The red kind seem to be more rare than the brown, but I'll soon be rolling in mushroom soup.

So I played this new patch right when it came out, loaded up a world I hadn't played in a little while, and instantly somehow ran into lava (I swear I didn't touch it! But somehow the game said I grazed the side of it :P bah) and died, only to lose my entire inventory including a lot of diamond crap. /cry (I had like 7 buckets on me, all of them empty.. go figure)
I was kind of afraid to play again until he fixed the inventory bug but it looks like he did finally. Still, I may just scrap that world :P

Are there any utilities that keep track of where you've been? Or where you've left torches? I loving finding new caverns, but they always take hours to explore and I end up hating how complicated they are and how hard it is to find where I've been if I died. Or run out of torches.

I'm not scrapping my main world. But soon I want to start a new world close to some snow and create a Christmas world.
It should be stated more forcefully in the OP: bookmark this. That and knowing what the inventory key is (I recommend changing it to be closer to the WASD keys) are literally all you need to get started.
I made a land bridge in the Nether and Ghast were all "that's a nice bridge you got there, BOOM where'd it go?"
I'm pretty sure building anything not made of obsidian in the Nether is a fool's errand attempted only by those who would spit in the very eye of God while wearing an ungrounded lightning rod as a hat.
I was planning on trying to build stuff in it myself, but I'm finding the whole environment pretty effectively unnerving, considering the Ghasts aren't really that big of a threat (although I do seem to have pissed off one of the pig-zombie tribes). It's probably just the constant wails of damned infants and self-immolating Ghasts, and the general sense that the only reason Cthulhu isn't there eating your brains is that he's off at his summer home temporarily.

I ended up zerging them down finally by setting the entire area around my portal on fire. Not the most graceful, but it worked :P

It is not playable, unfortunately.

Why do I get the feeling that entire environment is going to collapse to a flat plain as soon as you place a torch?
