Huh. I used to have Arcade and Rex following me around, but now they're nowhere to be seen. (I didn't tell them to wait anywhere or leave my party.) However, when I attempt to hire a new guy, he mentions the party cap limit and I can't get him, does anyone know if there's a way to force your party members to appear before you (or sever the connection?)
There's probably nothing you can do other than use that file, till they patch it. Without the file the game won't use the full power of your video card. Setting everything to low doesn't even work.
That is rapidly becoming my experience, sadly. I would hope that an official patch rolls around soon...
The only difference i noticed is that i could actually get into a gunfight or look around without my computer having a stroke. It still looks damn good, I might notice things missing if I sat around pixel counting, but i was too busy shooting people from nearly the max draw distance to care.
Good to know. Hopefully things are preserved, graphics wise, because given the nature of what that d3d9.dll file was made to do, I wouldn't be surprised if it made the wasteland look like an untextured N64 game. I mean, the d3d9.dll file that's current, so far as I can tell, is 1.8 MB. This one that's floating around is 106 KB, there's certainly something different. Even so, seems like the cure-all for the game at this point.
I haven't noticed any graphical downgrade at all using the file.
It would have been delicious if they had him crucified later if you do this, with him saying he got picked up right outside of town and couldn't find his ticket
So is there any way to add more songs to the New Vegas radio? I think ive heard that "Big Iron" song like at least 25 times now. Looking in the folder theres a ton more songs that im not hearing... I checked the nexus but theres no radio mods out yet which is weird. Theres a "Track Pack" but its just MP3s and it doesnt explain how to use them.
there is a raido mod, not sure if its packaged right, you should just have to install it and load up the esm it will be active.
Any idea what its called? I cant find it through google or on the nexus under sound mods.

so what type of stats would you guys start with for a pure melee character
I would probably focus on Str, End, and Agi to a lesser extent.
Put str to about 7 or 8, and 7 (or 6 + small frame) on agi. That way you can get the weapon handling perk at 16 so ST requirements drop by 2 and at ... 24 I think you can get slayer and 26 nerves of steel.
I'm running 6 in END I think.
That way with various armor and maybe the str implant a weapon shouldn't take more than 8ST for a requirement (unless a weapon goes over 10) with weapon handling.
At least that's how I'm attempting it with my unarmed / melee build.

Greetings Starfighter! You have been recruited by the Star League to defend the frontier against Xur and the Ko-Dan Armada.
So did the patch fix the losing of save files? Because it is ridiculously frustrating to lose hours of gameplay because magically my save files disappear. My roommate is pretty pissed off about it and refuses and to play NV again until they do.
Also, I see some people mentioning having two companions. Do you need a perk or just really high CHA?

Well he looked like a Powder Ganger so I shot him
He said he was a Powder Ganger so I shot him. Then I shot the crucified Powder Gangers. Then I went back to the NCR Correctional Facility and killed the powder gangers there.

I love ed-e but man, he seems to have a habit of just randomly electrocuting people in thier own homes when I take him inside anywhere. He's like a really bad dog, I just have to leave him outside everywhere I go. I think it might have something to do with him knocking over items tagged as other peoples property.
Supposedly he's gotten one upgrade in my game, but it didn't seem to do anything.
So I finally reach New Vegas, to hunt down Benny, and end up in the Freeside slums outside The Strip. I befriended The King, leader of the Kings Gang, so he could hook me up with a fake Passport to get into the city (otherwise, I'd have to be holding 2000 caps... fuck that). I get in, and Victor immediately greets me and tells me Mr. House wants to meet me in the Lucky 38... a casino no one has entered for the past 200 years, save for Mr. House himself. I go in and speak to Mr. House on the penthouse floor, through a computer monitor. He explains a ton of things about the Platinum Chip and hires me to take it back from Benny "by any means necessary"... as a bonus, he tells me he'll pay me four times the amount I would've been paid if I delivered the chip in the first place (A WHOPPING 1000 CAPS!!!)
I leave the casino, and am confronted by both a NCR messanger and Vulpes, of the Legionarres (sp?). Both of them want me on their side, though I'm not sure why yet. I go to the Tops Casino, and scare the shit out of Benny by simply approaching him. He regains composure though, and tells me that since my weapons were seized at the entryway (except holdout weapons) it would be a stupid move for me to get my revenge.
He wants me to negotiate, and gives me access to the Presidential Suite... I tell him to lose the guards, first. Up there, we talk and he tells me his plan to get the Chairmen to run New Vegas, and the Platinum Chip has the means to arm NV against all opposition. I tell him I don't care, as I'm out for his blood. A massive fight breaks out when he summons his guards up, and I kill Benny and take the chip and his nice 9mm handgun, the Maria.
I go to his quarters on the 13th floor, and find a Securitron named Yes Man. He tells me Benny's plan, and says that because I have access to the Lucky 38, I could easily take control away from Mr. House and keep New Vegas for myself!
I tell him I'll think about it, and take the Chip back to Mr. House. He confirms the Platinum Chip is used to upgrade the Security OS for the Securitrons, giving them massive weapon upgrades! I decide to help Mr. House further by helping him route out NCR (even though he plans to backstab the Legion as well). I haven't decided if I'd obey him or not, or if I even wish to keep New Vegas for myself. There's 4 major choices at play here, and none are too easy.

ok, I don't want a repeat of what happened to my saves last night and I have the whole day to play NV today
how the fuck do I stop steam cloud overwriting my saves?
edit - from the bethesda forums I'm trying this:
Here's an easier fix than the batch file. In the ...Steam/userdata.../22380 folder, delete the contents of the /remote folder, then turn off Write Access (for all users and administrators) for the /22380 folder in the Properties/Security tab. That way, no new autosaves or quicksaves get backed up there, and there is nothing for your saves to revert to.
I've been testing this all evening, and it seems to be a reliable solution.
If you arent playing with the wasteland madness perk then you arent playing the game.
Stumble upon a frigde in the wasteland with a skeleton and a fedora inside...
So is that what it does? Makes random weird/funny shit pop up in the desert?
Also, I got Easy Pete killed
Getting a Broc Flower for Sunny from the cemetary, when I hear the fight music start. Turn to see a full grown Radscorpion charging me. I've only got the 9mm with about 30 rounds and the varmint with about 50....
Guess I got a little too close to the saloon and Pete pulled aggro.. poor guy. Almost died before i ran into the saloon. Spent about five minutes drinking from the toilet.

I'm sorry, but this is just too damn funny. How the hell did you manage to find a Radscorpion in Goodsprings?!
Shit man, you must have bad luck.

They spawn around the graveyard, as well as the uber bloatfly thingie (whatever the fuck it is). Believe me, one of those follows you back to town and there will be nobody left.
The enemy spawns and ingredient spawns seem really random at the beginning, my friend started a game and there was no xander root at all by the schoolhouse, they were all dead. I ran into one of the uber insects right outside town in my second start, despite seeing nothign but bloatflies my first time through.

Finding wildlife in Goodsprings isn't weird, typically one of the townspeople get hungry and go hunting and while they are out they aggro something and it chases em back to town. My first character had to be remade because a Deathclaw was pulled into town.

Giant Bloatflies?! This I have got to see... (good God, I hope not)
Well, I got good weapons now, namely the Hunting Rifle + (Got Modded with a quicker firing rate) and the Maria, Benny's gun. (I also shot his dead corpse in the head with it... gave me a fuzzy feeling)

Easy Pete was killed in the gun fight with the Powder Gang. "Sorry about you dying there Pete. Hey! Nice .357 magnum!"
So am I going to have to reverse pickpocket people to upgrade their gear? I don't want to travel back to Goodsprings way later in the game and have a spawn of equal levels enemies kill everyone.

I saw a Giant Radscorpion chilling in the graveyard. He soon chased me off.
I have now concluded that cannibalism is the only way to play this game. The infinite amounts of amusement this has given me has been well worth the bugs. Speaking of bugs, I found five NCR troops stuck in one another, like some kind of Fallout engine based Leonardo picture. When I killed one it instantly crashed the game (and locked up the 360).
Was so worth it.
Edit: There doesn't appear to be much level scaling in NV. The world just hates you from the beginning.
I had no idea they were in the game until I read a loading screen tip. My body literally siezed up and I got chills. First playthrough FO3 Old Olney flashbacks... bad times man... bad times.

sounds neat. I've been dropping PER down because it's fairly useless and buffing up STR and END and a bit of AGI. I tagged unarmed/melee weapons and science. might need to buff up lockpicking though.

Except now they are actually intimidating and you can't just VATs + Shotgun + Aim for head = iwinlolz.
They just rape your face off.
Actually I've barely used VATs in NV. It's essentially suicide against anything decent in melee. I'm actually okay with this, it makes it really hard (actually impossible) to cheese any situation using the ridiculous DR it gave in FO3.

There's also a max you can win at any particular casino before you're asked to leave by the friendly bouncers.
No.
You can have 1 humanoid and 1 non-humanoid.
But it will be a minor annoyance.

isnt that just regular leather armour, with the caravan pack armour being closer to max's/fo1/2 version.
