I love that Jim Davis has embraced and supported "Garfield Minus Garfield" when you just know alot of people in his position would get all pissy about people "ruining his artistic vision" or some nonsense.

"Jim Davis" and "artistic vision" are not words that belong in the same language, much less the same sentence.

Garfield and Friends is the name of the Saturday morning cartoon show you're thinking of; "The Garfield Show" is the current computer-generated cartoon with Frank Welker as the voice of Garfield. It's not terrible or anything, and is even somewhat entertaining sometimes, but it's nowhere near the level of Garfield and Friends.

Having one of the main writers of G&F, Mark Evanier, on the new show probably helps.

U.S. Acres is back, as a quote-unquote "web comic," but as noted, they're just rerunning strips from before. Strangely, they didn't start from the beginning, nor did they synch it with a year whose day-date scheme matches 2010's.

Finally, Garfield and Friends is on DVD, all of it. And it has been for several years now, too-- I even have the first season/volume, with every intention of getting the rest when I can.

There are some changes, however. For some reason (copyrights or something, I forget), the DVDs use the non-U.S. title for U.S. Acres, "Orson's Farm," which was used in other countries. Likewise, the final season doesn't have the U.S.-only "rap" theme song, instead going with the traditional "We're Ready to Party" theme, if I remember correctly.

I just can't bring myself to agree with line about not being terrible. That show is so bad.

The book has a radically different ending.
    -There actually is an island.
-The dogs are rescued by an animal rights group.
    -They don't have plague.
-The brain damaged dog's owner turns up and takes both of them home.

It was so jarringly happy, the Author prefers the movie.

W-what happens to them in the animated movie? Do they die? *is only familiar with the book*

Wasn't that the author the same guy who wrote Watership Down? Now that was turned into a fine piece of animated art.

Yeah I heard the book ending to Plague Dogs was very different from the movie. It is really weird the book ending is much more upbeat than the film, usually it's the other way around.

apparently the movie has an ending based on the first edition of the book. It was changed in subsequent printings.

So the latest Dreamworks thing is out today.

Megamind currently has a 64% on Rotten Tomatoes, but I can't bring myself to get excited about it since the previews make it seem so.... Dreamworks-y.

    Anybody see/plan to see this?

Also, I just read something about Cartoon Network bringing back the Thundercats next year and making the series 'darker' ? uh-wha?

Woah, Megamind's rating went up? I thought it'd go down if anything.

I'm probably going to go see it with some friends regardless. I really do like the idea behind the movie, even if they end up pulling it off terribly.

I'm STILL waiting for someone to get off their ass and release all of the Marvel Superheroes cartoon on DVD. Or well, any of it.

On a side tangent, I did manage to find an original copy of the boxed set of the Dungeons and Dragons cartoon. The packaging is awesome is looks like the original D&D set. The newer DVD release doesn't have nearly the same level of awesome packaging.

I'll spoiler it, just in case you really don't want to know.
They're running away from hunters and they enter the water to swim away. I think the little dog(snitter?) says he sees an island(though for the audience it doesn't seem that way) and that they should persevere basically. He then admits there's nothing there, but the large dog(Rowf, I believe) takes charge of the illusion and they keep swimming into the fog seemingly doomed.

    Um, wow.

So there's going to be an animated Tron series. But check out the voice cast:
Disney XD plans to bring an animated series called Tron: Uprising to the cable channel in summer 2012, according to Variety.

Tron: Uprising’s voice cast will include Lord of the Rings star Elijah Wood, Emmanuelle Chriqui (who plays Sloan on Entourage), Mandy Moore, Paul Reubens (aka Pee-wee Herman) and Lance Henriksen, the publication reported, with Bruce Boxleitner reprising his role as Tron.

The show will spin out of Tron: Legacy, the highly anticipated sequel to 1982 sci-fi movie Tron. Gary Marsh, president of Disney Channels Worldwide, called the animated series “a culmination of an extraordinary collaboration between Disney Television Animation and our feature film studio.”

Oh, I find it incredibly hilarious that Hub is trying to bring the Commonwealth Dennis The Menace series to the US, though obviously they can't call it by its real name.

And no, its not a ripoff of the American series. Nor is the American series a ripoff of it. The two original comics debuted independently on the same week.
