Yeah fuck that anime Layton nonsense
It's a little weird how the styles clash, but you have to keep Layton Layton and making Phoenix more Layton-esque would probably look just as weird
I'm a little surprised that Layton constantly had angry eyes in that trailer. I'm not super far into the series but he's been really calm and collected and gentlemanly so far
Does he ever, like
get angry at ladies? Ever?
That doesn't seem like something a gentleman would do
Before I watched the subbed version of the video, I was praying that at that point like 2/3 through, where they're in the clearing of trees talking to the 'witch', and Layton turns around and speaks after a dramatic pause... I was praying that he said "This reminds me of a puzzle"
Man whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat
whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat
Six days ago my husband started the Layton series and immediately said out of the blue: "Maaaaan. Phoenix Wright would be one tenth as long if Professor Layton was the main character." Offhandedly, he devised a crossover idea and--
Whaaaaaaaaat.
He's wrong, though. Phoenix can solve four to five cases in one game. Layton gets distracted by puzzles every ten seconds. He only solves one case per game.
No, he solves about ten. They're on the "mysteries" page.
The modding community will give you a way to hack it like, a month after release anyway. Just buy one.
I think I'll wait until knowing a freeregion hack exists before buying, most likely.
Yeah, I'm thinking of doing something similar. I've never hacked any of my systems before (PS2, DS, PSP or PS3) but with handhelds in particular, region free is pretty necessary for me. Without it I wouldn't have half my DS or PSP libraries because the games either never came out over here or were impossible to find when I went looking for them.
I just ordered a bunch of Phoenix Wright games. Should be here in a few days, just long enough for me to finish my brand new copy of Layton 3 while I dick around with Super Scribblenaughty.
My DS is perfect for this fucking deployment. I'm burning through so many games lol.
That music is NOT epic in the same manner. It's very exciting, very tense, but not epic.
ah so you're saying this is LOTR epix instead holy-crap-why-is-the-music-going-crazy-this-is-a-freaking-cross-examination-in-a-COURTROOM-holy-shit epix. I can see that.
but trailers are supposed to have grandiose, overbearing music. it's a law somewhere, I think.

Wow, that Layton music is really, really good. I like how the brass picks up about halfway... it's like the musical personality of the Phoenix Wright is harmonizing with the violins and piano of Layton's. Awesome.
The Phoenix Wright song is just the Objection theme from the orchestrated album.
...Of course, if this means that they're actually planning on using music from Gyakuten Meets Orchestra, then that is FANTASTIC. I always thought it a shame that those didn't make it into any actual video games.

This just popped up in my Facebook feed. All of my knowledge of Phoenix Wright/Professor Layton comes from having read previews/listened to people talk about the games/Penny Arcade strips. Now I feel like I have to get them and conquer them so I can move on to this crazy, wonderful thing.
Never finished the first Layton game. Played every single Ace Attorney game made so far.
This whole project still seems so absurdly weird. Like CSI Miami and Monk having a cross over show in which the protagonists are whisked away to a fantasy land to solve mysteries. Sure, both series have similar elements, but the premise doesn't really fit either universe very well at all.
At least Layton's visual style fits with the Ace Attorney style if you remember this guy is canon:
Although I suspect his character design was heavily influenced by the need to animate him in 3D for the special security camera footage sequence.
Now that I think about it, the absurdity of the solutions to Layton mysteries wouldn't fit in a Phoenix Wright game at all. If it did, that would be hilarious though.

The two realties are pretty much at odds with each other when you stop to think about it. The world of PW is essentially one where the supernatural objectivally exists, with spirit mediums and the like. PL on the other hand does its best to debunk any and all supernatural stuff and scientifically ground it. Now how well it does that is up for debate, but for the most part, it's like The Wizard of Oz: Big scary floating wizard head at first, but Layton pulls back the curtain and reveals the man pulling the levers.
It should be interesting to see how they go about bridging the two worlds. Like if Mia shows up at some point and if Layton tries to find a way to logically explain it or something. Should make for a comedic moment at least.

This is a joke right?
You're talking about the same Phoenix Wright series whose mystery solutions include a) the ingeniously absurd use of a metal detector b) cross-examining a parrot and a walkie talkie c) identifying how some crazy infrared visor makes an awesome dude uniquely colorblind and d) logically deducing which ghost possessed which spirit medium and interrogating said ghost for what she witnessed.
I think Professor Layton will be in good company when it comes to solving absurd mysteries with equally absurd (but somehow still relatively logical) methods.
Layton: “The culprit behind the witchcraft that put the city in chaos… You are the very one!”
Girl: “You’re wrong. I am not a witch.”
Layton: “Then how did you know the contents of the book you could not have possibly read?”
Phoenix: “OBJECTION! Professor, there is a glaring contradiction in your testimony.”
—
Luke: “What’s written in the book becomes reality.”
Maya: “What? That’s impossible!”
—
Girl: “I will probably be killed soon, it’s been written in the book.”
Phoenix: “We won’t let that happen.”
Layton: “Mr. Wright, I believe we both have made a grave error…”
—
Layton: “Now Luke, what a guardian of the law says is not necessarily the truth.”
Phoenix: “To be honest, I don’t like that sir Silk Hat much at all…”

Uh, more like the other way around. Layton's hugely popular.

That'd be a neat trick, considering this thread is 16 hours old. :P
This is awesome
I love you

I merely assumed that the overwhelming magnificence of this announcement caused a space-time rift that allowed others to post from the future.
Also I forget to read the time on posts. That might also be a factor.
I approve.
I see what you did there.
Argh I'm only getting a black screen where the flash would be F5F5F5

what the hell is wrong with you people

I wonder how people would have reacted to this setting for a Phoenix Wright game if Layton hadn't been in it.
