I've been looking for an excuse to post the best Rule of Rose review, ever ever, courtesy of BBC Scotland. I've never played the game, but bugger me sideways it looks bad.

Holy crap these guys are great! I searched for more videoGaiden stuff, the Dead Rising review is hilarious. Why can't American shows talk straight like this? Fuck cheesy euphamisms...
I admit though I do have to listen closely or I miss some of the...err...words.

Anyway, I've been somewhat interested in this game, maybe I'll check it out sometime. Apparently these guys also developed Chulip, which I've been wanting since I heard about it like 5 years ago. :P

You know, whenever i listen to scottish people talk, its a little bit like listening to some foreign language im vaguely familiar with. I can pick out a few words here and there, but mostly i cant tell what the fuck theyre talking about.
"Midget with a brush"
"Rule of rose"
"Body of a hoover with the mind of a shopping troll"!?!!
There's lots of fetish references and stuff in this game. They cancelled the release in the UK in the end, though I still have my press copy. I just couldn't stomach it even to find out what all the controversy is about.
The opening post has totally sold me on this game, especially when mentioning Killer 7. I love strangeness in games, and had always decided to skip this one thanks to its lackluster reviews. I guess I should check this one out!
Come to think of it, the gameplay in Killer 7 was a little lacking in places too. Is it not possible to make a creepy/surreal game that plays awesomely? Or are the odd controls somehow part of "creepiness?"

I want to play this, but no one has it for rent. Being an Atlus title, I don't feel like selling my wang to play it, either.

I have absolutely no idea where people are getting the idea that this game controls badly. Seriously, movement is just like Devil May Cry minus jumping. The speed of your character is also variable depending on how much you move the control stick, so there's no holding down the square button to run. Having played through every Resident Evil I was prepared to have to suffer through stiff tank controls but fortunately I was given these instead, which I have absolutely no problem with. I have a feeling the Scottish guy watched the opening cinema on gametrailers and played through the first thirty seconds. He was right about the enemy design and combat though, but I still argue that those things are not what the game is about.
From what I've read, heard and seen the game looks like it would've been more enjoyable if it were less survival horror and more adventure. The combat, while there, doesn't seem fun. Even the little girl is shirking away when she slashes with the knife.

For a Atlus game I've found it fairly easy to find at just about any EBGames, wasent alot of demand for it beyond some of the initial controversy it got so alot of the copies are still sitting around.

I like this game despite some the horrendously implemented combat.
The enemies really do weaken the overall experience. Looking at the earliest cutscenes where they appear, you KNOW they were originally supposed to be human children also but the developers wimped out. :P

That video makes me mad at myself for hesitating to buy GodHand. Now I want to get on that post-haste.
While a short experience, god-hand kicks the ass of everyone and everything. Even...

Beat-'em-ups aren't supposed to be long anyway. They're about replaying until you finally have something tangible to associate with why you're not out dating on Saturday nights.

I can imagine that children killing other children with desert forks, melon knives, and revolvers wouldn't have been the easiest thing to get past the censors. That said, I wish they had tried because you're right, the enemies do weaken the experience. Still worth playing, IMO.
What censors? It's a type of game that would have been a monumental flop no matter what, they may as well have gone all the way and either released it unrated or with an AO rating in the US. Did it even get any reviews from mainstream sources in the US that rated it higher than like, six?

A few. (I'm pretty much counting Play, GAF, and eToychest here.)
The non-boss enemies aren't supposed to be human. Jennifer may be crazy and hallucinating, but she didn't kill 100 children in an orphanage.
Oh boy! The Onion gave it a B!
Must buy.

I'm waiting for a good price drop($39.99 now, so it's going down slowly but surely), and then I'll get it.
I rarely ever pay much for survival horror games, since they're usually short, unless it's something I really want(the last game I paid $50 for in the genre was Silent Hill 3[worth it]).
If the Scottish review is any indication, I think I can manage. I can handle mediocre gameplay for a good story. (See: Dirge of Cerberus)
Yeah, the first boss was wrong in so many ways (and I'm not talking gameplay here although the gameplay was messed up).
The main problem I had with the game was the mandatory fighting. Lousy combat but I can run away from everything? I'm cool with that. Lousy combat but you throw a boss or otherwise unavoidable battle at me on a regular basis? No thanks.

When I first heard of the game I was very interested in it but I have no time for any new games much less adventure ones.

It's a very average survival horror game with questional play mechanics. really it has to have the off color subject matter just to get noticed.
