I like the new Finder icon, or at least don't have any issue with it. Overall the new icons look pretty great to me. What I didn't like was the new color for folders; they look too bright and a little washed out to me on Finder's white background.

Has anyone ever heard of Gatekeeper throwing up the "can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer" message on a JPG? My friend is getting this (don't have screenshot):
<filename>.JPG can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer. <stuff about changing security preferences>

And then underneath:
Mail created this file on <date>
I get that when I try to open the Shroud of the Avatar alpha/beta updates on my Mac. Since i DO trust this particular developer I right-click > Open and that gets me around it. (Until the developer actually fixes it before the product launches...)
Is that actually a JPEG or actually "totally-not-a-virus.jpg.app," similar to the Windows equivalent of "totally-not-a-virus.jpg.exe."

I haven't had a chance to really dig into this because the computer this is affecting is in another state and she hasn't had the time to do a screenshare/I haven't had the time to go there, but this by all accounts a JPG file that was created years ago and has just been sitting on an SD card
Is it possible that its complaining about the program associated with opening .JPGs more so than the JPG itself? Perhaps that somehow got changed from Preview to a third-party app that is from an unidentified dev? Other than that, I'm going with amnesiasoft's theory as the #1 culprit.

It's possible the jpg is straight up corrupted
maybe try to rename it with the suffix again and see if it opens
My sound is being very wonky on my 2009 MBP - sometimes it wont work, it wont be muted and the output will be set to internal speakers but when I try to adjust the volume it will give me the grayed out speaker icon with an x, or sound will work and when I use the keyboard sound up/down keys I'll get the on screen display that the sound is being raised or lowered but the sound wont actually be raised or lowered (however, when I go into System Preferences and adjust the sound from there the volume will raise or lower).
Its super weird and I dont know why its doing it, have you guys had any experience with this?

Hello, Mac people! I accidentally bought a Mac key for A Wolf Among Us, accessible directly from Telltale. I thought it was a Steam key, but did not do due diligence.
So, if anyone would like a Mac Telltale key for A Wolf Among Us, shoot me a PM.

So I upgraded to Yosemite Beta 3 (14A361p), and now most of my apps can't connect to anything. Chrome and Skype work for some reason, but Mail, Slack, Messages, Facetime, the App Store, Safari, etc all think I'm not connected to wifi. Any ideas how to troubleshoot this?

I dunno, man.
I rolled back from Yosemite after the first developer version because it was very unstable. I know there have been months since then, but this is a pretty big update to the OS and if you NEED your computer to be reliable I would wait for the official release (if not a .1 or .2 in).

I'm considering it, yea. I was okay with the previous builds, it was mostly just new stuff that didn't work (any of the iPhone integration, really). Now it doesn't even see my phone, and random apps won't connect. It's just baffling. At least my Parallels instance of windows works great.
So... that Bash bug. I can't tell if it was already patched yesterday in OS X or not. I also can't tell what steps are required to be vulnerable...
The latest security update I see on Apple's site is from the 17th, and the patch notes make no mention of bash. I'm on a fully updated Yosemite beta build and it is still vulnerable at this point.

So after the most recent OSX update, I haven't yet had a black screen of sleep.
I'm cautiously optimistic.
noooope, nevermind
I was gonna' say...I had never experienced this on Yosemite (only Mavericks) and then the last update they pushed it it seems like they introduced it as I've run into it once or twice since. I'm starting to think it's a feature.
Yosemite available now, and Apple dropped the 5k display iMac during the keynote. 5k seems completely ridiculous to me when we're still several years from 4k content being mainstream, and even as a photographer I don't see any huge advantages over 1440 or 1200p. But I guess that guy in the ad did! At least it'll look pretty, looking forward to checking one out in the apple store.
iPad Air 2 looks spiffy but I still have no reason to own one, I'm just waiting for Macbook Pro Broadwell next year to sell my 2010.

I.. wha... PIXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXELS! That looks like a kick-ass machine, and as a developer I love me some screen real-estate. Moar = better on that one for me.
Hurry up, Yosemite. Show up in the damn app store! COME ON, TIM, PUSH DA BUTTON.
The new iPads look nice, but I don't really feel like I need to replace mine yet. I think I've got the first retina-screen version. I know my dad's gonna replace his 1st gen though with one of these.

Yosemite install's got 6 minutes left. I'm inexplicably excited about 10.10 for some reason. I really like a lot of the UI changes. And I wanna play with the handoff stuff.
The new Retina iMac made my future choice between a Macbook Air and an iMac that much more difficult.
I'm still leaning towards the air because I've fallen out of the creative side of things so much over the last half-decade. I can count the number of times I've launched Photoshop in the last year on one hand and my camera is hanging on a peg collecting dust. (Sigh.) I really need to take that thing out and about more often.

The physical size doesn't matter. More pixels means more stuff fits on the screen at once (assuming your eyes are okay with shrinking stuff down as the resolution goes up).

Going from a 15" MBP to a 13" rMBP was the best thing ever. After a couple of days of squinting, it's super comfortable now that I've adjusted to it and I have way more screen real estate in a smaller package.

Continuity is planned obsolescence at its finest.
Sure, they could have used standard bluetooth or wifi N for older devices at a performance hit in battery life, but instead chose to lock it down to computers less than 2.5 years old.
My MacBook Air is a perfectly fine machine that all of a sudden feels old and busted to me because I can't take a call on it or do handoff.

You guys can't be serious about running everything in native resolution on a retina display so that everything is half the size? I can't even imagine how tiny all my Adobe CS tool palettes would all be and completely illegible at half size...

run this code in any bash terminal on any device:
env x='() { :;}; echo vulnerable' bash -c 'echo hello'If you see vulnerable in the response, then yup, its vulnerable.

Yeah, true...
My desktop machine is a PC so I'd buy an ACD 5k if they made one compatible for it.
the new font is going to take some getting used to
