Deal of the week: Hydro Thunder, Aqua & Hydrophobia
This week, Xbox LIVE Gold members can save on Hydro Thunder, Aqua & Hydrophobia:
Was 1200 800 800
This week 800 400 400
$ave 33% 50% 50%
Already own Hydro Thunder, it's OK, didn't end up playing much.
Going to pick up Hydrophobia, on the principle of how the devs have seemingly listened to their community post-release and strived to improve the game, whatever faults it may have. Something I'd like to see much more of.
Oh, right, I forgot Hydrophobia was going on sale this week. Now I feel really stupid for buying it.

Hydro Thunder is a fun game and it's incredibly satisfying to win, but the irritating thing about the multiplayer is that the host has complete control over the map (hope you like Area 51 again) and it runs on the system of pressing a button to confirm you are ready.
The latter would be fine but there's no timer so you have to wait for that guy to finally push the damn button.
I bought Hydrophobia. The main character is Jade. That's who it is. I don't even know her real name, but I will accept nothing else other than her being Jade from Beyond Good and Evil. The bad guys aren't aliens, but are just as misanthropic as the Domz.
Possibly more so. Geez, I thought I was pro-choice.
Also, I love Hydro Thunder, so I got it, and it's a worthy, polished successor. People still play it online too. Collectibles are a bitch to obtain though.

Remember 'I Am Alive'? I only do because of the Simpsons reference I made to a mate when I saw the title (hell, I think we even had it in my work's pre-order section at one point).
I was gonna buy it anyway, but getting hydrophobia this week also enters you into a contest. First Prize is a cruise, second prizes are $50 in microsoft bucks.
So I though I would ask this here before making a whole thread for it:
I just got a Slim 4gb model, and put in a 250gb harddrive I pulled out of the older 360 enclosure I got from woot for $50 over the holidays. So, I have a normal 360 hdd and 4 gigs of flash. Is this flash space actually faster at loading anything than the hdd? Is it worth putting anything at all on there, or is just going to sit there being a backup for certain game saves?
I've seen that error in Deathspank before, you might try quitting the game and restarting..otherwise, I think it doesn't cause any problems, it is just trying to upload # of chickens killed and other random crap like that. Flaky servers are kind of inexcusable you're right.
Whoever recommended Axel & Pixel, thank you!!! I read a review, broke down and bought it before the sale ended (without even trying the trial...) and am so glad I bought it. It's a game basically made for me, I love adventure games but I hate the time wasted in wandering around trying to figure out puzzles. That one throws you into a wonderful scene with relaxing guitar music and basically it's not very hard to figure the puzzles out but the art and character of the game makes up for it. I kind of am sad that probably people grab the trial and rate it low when it's just not their type of game. I wish adventure games were more successful on XBLA, Telltale Games were released with bad timing and too expensive. Now there is some sort of weird prediction that adventure games will be successful on iPad/tablets, but I still love playing them on HDTV with nice sound. I actually have the Wallace & Gromit games and I finally got around to beating the first one with bumblebees. It's better than I expected it would be but my wife is a fan of W&G so I'm used to the quirky yet family friendly British humor.
It seems Aqua is basically an indie game in disguise as well, twin stick naval game?
I bought Hydrophobia, haven't played it yet. Again thanks for those reviews/recommendations on the previous sale.
So my father, in an attempt to use the netflix service on my Xbox 360, has apparently purchased 400 Microsoft points. When I got home from work tonight I noticed the e-mail, asked, and yeah, he admitted to fiddling with it trying to get it to work.
I really need to get that Harmony remote working one day and show him how to get it to work...(Or buy a second Wii to put in that room.)
Is there any way I can get a refund or should I just suck it up and move on?
I can't even begin to guess how one accidentally purchases Microsoft points when trying to watch Netflix...
...but to answer your question, I doubt you'll be able to get a refund. I guess it couldn't hurt to call them up and ask. You could always threaten to cancel your gold account...

It's just $5, I guess I'll let it slide.
Problem was that he was using the harmony remote, but it was set to Xbox 360 and the TV wasn't on the proper input so he was mashing buttons trying to get one of them to switch the input of the television and I guess he just happened upon the right combination to purchase some points.

Ah, that makes more sense. Just be glad he didn't purchases $75 worth of points instead :P
Maybe. I can't find it now, but there was an option on Live to vote for a game to go on sale. Pac-Man CE DX was one of the choices, and it was winning, but I'm not sure how it played out.
Week of February 7 – Retro Shooter:
Duke Nukem Manhattan Project, 400 Microsoft Points (50 percent off)
Space Invaders Infinity Gene, 400 Microsoft Points (50 percent off)
Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2, 400 Microsoft Points (50 percent off)
Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter, 400 Microsoft Points (67 percent off)
Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter, 400 Microsoft Points
Galaga Legions, 400 Microsoft Points (50 percent off)
then the week after that, Risk Factions for like the 5th time
I voted for Castlevania since anyone with half a brain should already own Pac-man. I don't want dumb people to save money.
this was also on sale a month ago during the winter sale, for 600 ms points.
I would prefer games that haven't ever been on sale go on sale.
edit: and we should be getting torchlight and beyond good and evil hd soon. the next couple months of live arcade look sweet
It doesn't matter if you make the greatest downloadable in the world: You'll never win over the anti-15$, burrito-loving demographics.
1) Braid wasn't worth $15.
2) It's a mental barrier. XBLA has some great games on it, but that doesn't stop people from thinking they're lower quality, shorter, and generally worth less money. It's an odd marketplace, too. Let's take Hydro Thunder as an example. It's great. I love it. But when I can buy Streets of Rage 2 and Symphony of the Night and still have $5 leftover it's a hard sell. Hell, even if I'm remembering wrong and SotN is $10 it's still a hard sell.
3) It only gets worse with multiplayer games. Aside from BF1943 I can't think of a single XBLA with a decent online community. That, in conjunction with the price, makes stuff like Blacklight look terrible. There is nobody out there who wants to pay $15 for a game of "no matches found."

Some great games there, Geometry Wars is a given, Space Invaders: IG is an interesting reinvention of the series even if it boils down to a top-down shooter.
The graphics and music are interesting and the gameplay is pretty fun, but it doesn't take long for you to get more and more ridiculously overpowered weapons.
Music mode is a nice idea which generates a level based on the music you have on your hard drive, but you have to save a playlist with the song you want and it will only ever use the first song on said playlist, which is so counter-intuitive I don't know what to say.

Also, I can't believe I just got ragequit on in Raskulls...

Also, Hydro Thunder is awesome and totally worth $10 if you like arcade racing at all. Shame the DLC is not also on sale or I'd pick that up, too.

Yikes. Look at what Double Fine just put on sale and then immediately sold out.

Well it's coming to XBLA and PSN this year.
Ignore the 'lack of faith' stuff, that was just poor translation.
That said I don't know if my hopes are high for this one.

Sigh, where's the love for 5 card?
That happened to me too. Just disconnect from Live.

love
Pac-man
CE DX.
More people playing it is a good thing.
But I am totally fine with Pac-man winning.
Dammit...
Once, it was a one day sale over christmas for 600 points
I hope pac man ce dx wins
