the holiday sale starts today - I'll try to get a bigger post together about it later
also: Kinect Party (the sequel to Double Fine Happy Action Theatre) came out today. It's free for a limited time, so grab it now. it looks like there's a free dlc for it as well - not sure if that is temp or not.

Yeah, no idea how long the DLC is free for, but Tim Shafer said to get it all while it's free, and I'm not one to ignore that.
I think we should just accept the fact that Retro City Rampage is never hitting XBLA
I bought it on PSN, and while the references are fantastic...the game itself is extremely mediocre. I was just severely let down by it. My original plan was to double dip on the game to support the dev, but actually playing the game killed that idea.
highlights from the long sales:
World of Keflings for $5 (the dlc packs are $2 each, and are basically more of the same)
Jet Set Radio for $5
Bully: Scholarship Edition for $10 - even on PC, this usually doesn't hit a good sale
Sorry if this is the wrong place, but there is not a dedicated thread. It was brought up a few (maybe more) pages ago, but is anyone playing Guardians of Middle Earth? If anyone is, any knowledge of community sites outside of the mothership?
The game itself is great, but man the netcode hurts. There have already been 2 patches since release to address disconnects, inability for matchmaking to create lobbies, and other issues related to lag. There have certainly been improvements due to those patches, but I am hoping that this doesn't suffer the same fate demigod did (awful start leads to the game essentially collapsing).
That being said, if you get into a game (even playing against the AI) it's awesome. I am not sure if the notorious lack of a mic for (seemingly) most XBL users is going to be a boon or a drawback. Maybe there will be less BM* from your own team, but it will be more difficult to orchestrate anything resembling tactics.
*I fully anticipate people plugging in their mic for the 10 seconds required to add their own evidence the gabe theory.
I've been playing GOME a lot, and it seems to be holding steady after the patches to fix the early poor netcode. Right now the only problems seem to be the typical XBL problems that you can't avoid in any multiplayer game, namely hosts with poor connections. The gameplay itself is definitely a blast, though, no doubt about that, and the first DLC was good.
I didn't really care for the Middle Earth demo. Never played a MOBA or whatever before... just seemed like slowly run to the middle, use an ability, die, respawn and repeat.
Everyone has a price. Throw enough gold around and someone will risk disintegration.
That would be what happens in any multiplayer game in which no one is playing smart of using any semblance of strategy. It's also why I avoid the one-lane map like the plague.
I've been playing GOME a whole lot too, and loving it. But sadly only about 1 in every 4 or 5 games doesn't suffer from disconnects. The 2 to 5 minute wait to get into a game is tolerable, but having to go through it 4 times before getting a decent game is not. If I didn't have an ipad to distract me while I wait I would have deleted this game by now, that is for certain. Even worse though is when you've been playing for an hour In a tight match just to get disconnected. I don't think I've ever been more consistently frustrated while simultaneously drawn to keep playing a game before.
Feel free to add me for some team up action though, and we can bang our heads against the wall together! Gamer tag is Chuck Steake.
I was interested in GoME before it came out, but the fact that every time it's mentioned there are always connection problems mentioned alongside it really puts me off.
Shame, because everything else I've read paints it as a pretty good console adaptation of a MOBA.
I've rarely been disconnected personally, but I've seen plenty of other people get disconnected. It all depends on how good your connection is, I guess. Things have definitely improved massively since release, though.

I've never had any problem with any other game online. After getting the patch last night my success rate of getting into a game wasn't improved at all. It just froze up as soon as the match started (requiring a manual quit) instead of a few minutes into a match.

Just straight up freezing? That is strange. The few disconnects I've gotten have straight up kicked me to the main menu.
Is $10 the regular price for Rayman Origins or is it just on sale early? Becuase that's an amazing price. Also tempted by Rock Band 3 as I don't have that one yet. And Joe Danger 2. Looks like I need a $20 code from Amazon.
EDIT: According to CAG the Rayman deal (and the LEGO deals) went live early. So I picked up Rayman Origins and Joe Danger 2. Now I'm mulling over RB3. This would be easier if I had 800 points instead of 770 sitting on my account.
EDIT, part again: It looks like you can buy 400 points from Amazon! I'll still have a funky amount on my account, but $10 for RB3 seems like a steal. Will have to check with my wife to see if she wants to play it with me and if so, it's mine.
I've never had any problems with freezing or disconnects.
Tried my first Battleground today - I discovered, to no one's surprise, that I am mediocre, and should avoid stupid gambles if I'm playing Hildifons, as I need fire support to push a lane instead of just make it a pain in the ass for the enemy to attack.
I cannot carry three AI and a human that quits, though, against three humans and an AI.
i snagged rayman origins and JSR, i was tempted by RB3 but i have no plastic guitar currently so i was dissuaded.
looking forward to seeing what other deals pop up.
Is Lego Pirates of the Caribbean any good? It's probably hard to gauge since they're mostly the same game, right? I enjoyed the first star wars game, didnt like Indiana Jones or Batman though.
$10 is tingling my savings gland something fierce, though.

Of the titles I have played Pirates is the only one I can't seem to bring myself to 100%. It's not bad, but something about the license just doesn't translate as well as others do, I think.
pretty good dailies today:
$5 for Trine 2, Fez, Sonic Adventure 2
$7.50 for Mark of the Ninja
also, today is the official day for $10 Rayman Origins even though it went up early. it could go back to full price tomorrow
Haven't really played on my xbox since I got my new computer but I think it is time for some holiday relaxing in the couch in front of Trine 2 and Mark of the Ninja. Not really a fan of stealth games but have only heard good about Mark and the beautiful colors in Trine just seem to make it the perfect game for the season.
Sorry for the drive-by posting in regards to GoME. It definitely is a fun game, and the network issues have definitely been going away (but not completely gone)*. A great game just unfortunate that 1 there are network problems, and 2 at the moment until they fix them there likely isn't going to be much community growth.
They have already had multiple DLC character packs (adding bilbo, great goblin, bert the troll, thorin oakenshield, maybe some others I'm forgetting), unfortunate that they planned all this cool stuff and people are having problems even using it.
*Personally I have had much greater success queueing by myself than in a party.

It was on sale a few months ago, think I picked it up for 600 ms points.
I think I probably ignored that one at the time because I was saving my points for something else. I usually only buy MS points when they're on sale.
It's been on sale twice already. I guess they could do it again, but you've been sleepin' on this man.
