So if I wanted to be just the cheapest bastard, what's the minimum price for RB3 + keys?

I may upgrade the drums too, since my set is showing some age. What is the best cheap option for new drums?

I don't think Rock Band 2 drums are sold anymore, at least not for most (well, 360 anyways, its nearly impossible to find them). They cost $130 new, and they're pretty sturdy, but that certainly isn't cheap. I think you can still get the keyboard + game for $100 at dell though.

As far as drums go, the cheapest option is to get a drumset without the cymbals for, I believe, $100. For $130, you can get a set that includes the cymbals for Pro Mode.

As far as I'm concerned, the "cheapest" option (read: most economical) in my opinion is to spend the extra $100-150 for the ION kit, since they are much more sturdy and will likely last a lot longer than the standard drum kits, not to mention they're just better. The only thing stopping me personally from buying a set is that I just don't have the room for them.

Whelp, it's 2210 here in Western Canuckistan and the PS3 export page is wanged.

I guess I'll be exporting the tracks tomorrow morning. I'll also have to borrow my buddy's copy of Rock Band, because i traded it in long ago, although I still have the export license.

Had a blast playing this tonight though. Midlife Crisis, One-Armed Scissor, and Jerry Was a Racecar Driver are fantastic to play. I'm thinking of getting the lads together for a Rock Band night on the weekend.

It didn't make licensing or somesuch, along with a few other tracks.

I think Arikado put the info in the OP.

Dani California didn't make the jump, likely due to RHCP having some kind of deal with Guitar Hero (given the rumors of a GH: RHCP).

Other fun facts: Give It Away, Black Hole Sun, Spoonman, Let There Be Rock, and for some weird-ass unexplainable reason, Anyway You Want It also did not make the jump.

Also, fuck Guitar Hero for signing all these bands to exclusive deals and fucking us out of songs being exported over. So who has been messing around with the Pro Keys tutorial?? I just spent like 15 minutes in there and it not only seems to help you play the game better, but it appears to be Piano Theory 101 at the same time. Thats pretty freaking cool.

Also, xbox export code finally worked for me just now. I will download the tracks tomorrow though.

from scorehero, europeans lost two of their RB1 songs in RB3:

    http://rockband.scorehero.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=32423

    Heir Kommt Alex
    Rock 'n Roll Star

which is weird since all of us North American people have those two songs via DLC, so I guess we're not playing those online anymore with Europeans.

So... anyone want to get a band going?

EDIT: Someone throw me an invite on LIVE. I'll play anything but the guitars. Back to Road Challenges.

I am totally up for getting the band back together tomorrow!

Some impressions n stuff after a pretty hefty marathon:

    - As others have pointed out, the DLC/exported integration is amazing. So much so that I barely touched maybe 10 or so of the new RB3 songs during the entire session.
    - Pro Expert Drums is pretty much as good as it gets. The fact that it still maps open hats to blue is a disappointment but something that can very easily be adjusted to. On the other hand....
    - The algorithm DOES pick up hi-hats mapped to red and snares mapped to yellow and puts them where they should be (if you have a yellow cymbal configured). I was extremely surprised when I did a Random Jimmy Eat World setlist and was able to play My Best Theory (which has a mixture of hat/snare mappings when played in RB2 or on regular Expert) EXACTLY as I wanted to be able to.
    - A note to ION kit owners with all the cymbals : if you don't like fiddling too much with the controller interface and use the pads to navigate, the blue pad will scroll down the stats list on the post-song screen, while the blue cymbal will cycle the ratings.

There's a ton more I could say but I'll refrain from wall-of-texting. Needless to say, I think I'm in love. :P

Just because it might have gotten lost on the page bottom:

Is there any way to get the song select page to display your high score, instead of just your personal best notes hit and stars? It doesn't make sense they would take that out, but I can't find it. Like, I literally can't find what my best score is on a song on any screen.

The RB3 interface is otherwise really really good, but if they took out all high score tracking...

So...yeah. Wow! The answer is 'No'.

At least there is no obvious way to view the highest score without pressing the yellow button for 'more info'. It seems they forced the page to show star tracking rather than score or both. (Frankly, I hated it in LRB when it would cycle automatically and thus made it difficult to either quickly scroll through the stars or scores. Having to pause and wait sucked.)

Maybe the blue button does something? I don't know why they'd do it without letting the player tab between the choices. Other than their seemingly binary design meetings...

But I couldn't find my high score on the "press Y for more info" screen either. All it did there was display my % notes hit and stars on a bunch of difficulties. Where is the score displayed?

Yeah, you're right. I just took a closer look at it. Maybe try changing the sort by to 'leaderboards'? I really have no idea why they would basically abandon showing the scores somewhere. What a silly goose thing to do.

The worst is that they could easily just get you to hold X or something and have it toggle between high score and % notes + star rating displayed. Clearly the data is saved SOMEWHERE, because you get "new solo high score! 108,375!" messages when you beat a song. It just seems like there's literally no way to access it?

Every time I tried viewing the leaderboards, I got "could not connect" messages, so I don't know if that fixes anything.

Someone needs to bring this to Harmonix's attention. Something is messed up here. Do they have a Twitter I can respond to, since their boards are down?

This might even be a total dealbreaker for me. All I want to do is try to beat my previous high score. I can't really enjoy RB3 if it won't let me do that. :(:(

Well I'm not terribly concerned about the leaderboards being down, because I know the server is getting pounded. But I don't really see how the leaderboards being UP is going to make me view my high score.

I mean, some of the aesthetic things there may be a bit of a reason for it. But to take away the ability to track high scores? That's literally THE draw for 95% of people who play music games, and has been for 10+ years. And they keep track of the high score data, and then just... don't display it?

It really just seems like we're missing something super obvious here. Like "oh, if I hold down a button, there's my high score!" It just makes literally 0 sense for that data to not be viewable somewhere, especially giving all the other impressive stat tracking they're doing!

Hopefully we can hear from Harmonix on this. I'd be totally fine with a "wait until leaderboards are up, then it's fixed".

Where, exactly? All I see is a bunch of song information and my "score" (score being % notes hit and star rating) for each instrument on each difficulty. I don't see a 6-digit high score anywhere on this "more info" screen.

Wait a bit and it will show on the left side of the screen. It will show it for each instrument you have done it for (at least I believe this part is true since mine showed guitar and had the other instruments grey'd out). I found this by just sitting there reading all the info there... it does, of course, have to be a song you played on RB3.

Edit: just got myself out of bed to double check and it does show the score in the same place it shows the difficulty, just wait about five seconds and it shows up. I'm not as sure about the multi-instrument thing though since I didn't see the fadedout ones thistime, but I see my Power of Love score of 140k+ on there.

Remember, you do have to hit the 'more info' (yellow key on guitar) button to see this.

Hmm... just checked again. The PS3 Export page of the Rock Band website is down. I wonder if they're fixing it.

    David Bowie, "Life on Mars?"

Why this is a song that didn't ship with the game, I will never know. It's like Bowie knew this game would come out at some point in the future and crafted a song that was not only beautiful but perfect for RB3.
