I really had alot of fun this phalla, thanks for CaptainPlanet for hosting it.
I think this is actually the first ever phalla i've played that I won while being still alive at the end (in a manner of speaking of course)
I was on pins and needles pretty much the entire game, as my team seemed to be either busy or mia most of the game, I really had to take lead for the vampires.
Yeah, thanks for running Capt, was fun! Will try to learn from this experience and be less terrible in the future :P
Thanks for the game Captain. My role was truly maddening since the person I could link with was dead day one.
Kias do you have any idea how bad I thought I screwed up when I died and you directed the wagon onto Fireman? I spent all weekend yelling at my screen to shift onto Faragnu. My screen just sat there though.
Oh well we had to try something. The village never got off the ground. Using my role as a partial seer though almost might have worked.

Nodgarb - Abraham Van Helsing - Vampire Hunter - Arch Enemy of Count Dracula - Village Vigilante
Nodgarb you silly goosiest of silly goddamn geese. Why kill whoever lead the vote on the winning bandwagon before waiting narration results!? I was a free 'cleared' for the village.
Nodgarbs choices really perplexed me honestly... when I came up with the plan to capture myself because I was doing alot of vocal misdirection and needed someway to *clear* my name, I was quite worried he would vig me before my plan could go into action.
if we wanted to try and give them mis-information in the event that they escape (or we release them) honestly the situation didn't really come up... I was working on the assumption T_A would die on his 3rd day and wasn't expecting his escape.
When I was in the dungeon I had planned on talking to the other prisoners but nakirush died and my team didn't send in orders while I was "captured" so there was no new prisoner to talk to.

Yeah... you'd have to ask capt planet, but I assume he made the "talking to captured" mechanic in mind with conversions, (as when he told us we could talk to prisoners, I thought about trying to convince T_A to join us, but when told I couldn't didn't see alot of reason to talk to my food) but later he took out the conversion mechanic so it kinda left no reason.
Yes. Originally I did want to use the conversations between the captured and vampires for conversions. It would have taken 3 days to convert a player.
But since this was my first phalla hosting, I avoided adding too many mechanics. Plus having conversions made trying to balance the game extremely confusing.
I was hoping the mafia would put the talking to prisoners to use by trying to confuse them. Or at least taunting. I understand now why you wouldn't want to talk at all. But it could have been fun. I just didn't want the prisoner to have to sit and watch. I was warned that not being able to chat would seriously piss off players. Not fun, but getting to taunt from the sidelines sounded like more fun.
Firemanfred, I can't believe this is your first mafia game though. surely you played mafia somewhere else?
I'll take that as a compliment! I've only previously read along with one of the phalla games to try and figure out what all the fuss was about. That was last year sometime. I had a bit of free time at work and I'm already on here participating in a PbP, so I thought I'd give it a try.
I had a bunch of fun, thanks for running it CaptainPlanet!
I am a bit curious about how networking typically works. I figure that must be something the seers handle usually since theyre the only ones who can be certain they have a clean network. Otherwise you get a situation like we just saw where Garick snuck in and owned us. Is "soft-networking" viable?
Well done on kidnapping yourself Garick, I think I could have gotten everyone to vote you out that day otherwise.
Hmm, interesting... unfortunately I believe our Vig was captured today wasn't he? So we can't exactly get in touch with him. In any case, i'll talk things over with T_A and get back with you guys.
Is T_A confirmed somehow? I wouldn't put it past the mafia to 'capture' one of their own.
Also, fireman fred is setting off my mafiadar exactly the same way akimbo was...he's trying to keep his post count high and appear active but never actually providing anything helpful.
Hmm, hadn't thought about that roman... possible but very unlikely considering how badly the mafia has been playing, I can't even imagine being a bad guy and not sending in orders for a day... no, most of our deaths have been from our own hands. (ugh, seriously... helsing killed a green every day including our seer and guard except for today)
Unfortunately we don't have a seer around anymore for 100% confirmations, so we just gotta do what we can with what we have. I agree firemanfred is definitely setting off my mafiadar too, but I'd like to hear more before making a decision this time. Can't afford to fsck this vote up.
In hindsight, this (particularly the underlined) should have made me much more suspicious of Garick than it actually did. The fact that he seemed so confident about the how the game was playing out, despite not actually revealing as a special should have been a dead give-away. It didn't help that he had a cover role when captured (something I didn't forsee) that was potentially a special or so I thought from a brief wiki'ing so I assumed he actually was a special of some sort, and confirmed.
This game is a pretty good lesson in how soft-networking can hurt the village if its not organised and carefully thought about.

It can be useful but it is not something you rely upon or trust. The network is fueled by seers, vigges who call their kill, or other mechanics that can confirm a player. Soft networks are either a last resort, something you do with friends to gather infomation, or a way to form the Spectrum 5 (this last option is an advanced strategy, give it some time before you try this). The only reason I even tried to put one together was because of how bad we were getting tromped.
In my defense, my initial soft line up was actually all villagers, it's just too bad I sent out the PM too late for you to respond.

For a first game you did very well. The only reason I thought you were mafia was that your posts had this air of trying to make something out of nothing.
Yay, i'm glad to hear the name I chose for my cover id worked the way I hoped it would! I was going to reveal as a special if put on the spot about it, but honestly it was a very risky name if people thought too critically about it. (Why? Capt. Planet didn't use any names from Castlevania)
But, I had been playing big risk big reward the whole game.
I didn't want to accidentally use a name someone already had, and wanted to have the whole "special" thing as an ace in the hole if people weren't willing to vote with me or were still suspicious. (In Maria's back story, she was captured and taken to Dracula's castle and rescued. You could use her powers from then on. I love when little details like that match up to something totally unrelated so I went with her)
You threw away two specials (I think) and two days of voting records with your crumble claim...
What the hell happened?
You used to be cool man...
You guys were getting nothing done, and let the vig kill a ton of specials, while you were trying to get me voted out.
I got fed up, got in contact with the vig through sheer force of will, and convinced him to off AkimboLegs. Crumble was suspect because he appeared to be networked with you, and it was an unsuccessful gamble but it was the best shot I could take given that everyone was acting suspicious and giving the mafia plenty of cover.
Then you did the worst thing and voted me out despite the mafia forgetting to send in their kills. Here's a Count of the amount of times I never send in placeholder orders.
Overall, it was a lot of fun to be able to watch everyone in action. On day 1, I thought for sure this game was going to be won by the village. The death of godmode was really funny. Nobody from the vampire side tried to really save him. Quite funny, but it did help the vampires hide better.
Many people were suspicious of Farangu early game too. I am still unsure what set people off. But he could have easily been saved by the other vampires.
The brides of Dracula had the ability to sacrifice themselves in place of Farangu. If Farangu would get killed, the capturing would be lost and all prisoners still alive would go free.
If I ever try something similar, I would want to first find a way to get prisoners more involved in the game. Maybe always getting to send narration messages and some sort of puzzle to gain intel. But that forces a much less vanilla game so I avoided it for my first try hosting.
It sounds like every generally enjoyed the game. I am glad to hear that most enjoy. Of course constructive feedback is always welcome too.
Thank you all for signing up and giving me a chance to try hosting!

I had Farangu, Akimbolegs, and Moleface/Megatin pegged but none of you ever asked. So I guess it doesn't even Count.

Oh look, pointed out Akimbo too.
I must be improving.

Garick - you were on my list, but I put you off, then you got captured which threw me off. Other innocent people I killed - sorry!

Sometimes you gotta use logic when you look at who the mafia is killing. There should be an accompanying why to go along with it.
