Left 4 dead 2 on mac

So, as an impulse buy, I went and bought Left for Dead 2 on steam for my mac (10.5.8). Sadly, when I tried to play, it told me I had to get snow leopard for it to work (nooooooo). So I went to the apple website, but it seems you can only buy the disk. but I wanted to play now! Is there a way to download it from the apple website, another way to play it anyway on regular leopard or do I have to wait until I can go to the apple store and get the disc? Thanks!

    You need the disc.

    Put it another way: Apple don't have a digital store for Mac (yet!), and even if they did, they probably wouldn't put an operating system in there; what if you need to reinstall or the process needs to boot from disc? They don't assume their users are able to work out how to burn discs, and some of them don't even have optical drives at all.
