Frame link would make this game way too slow. The MvC series as a whole is based off easy combos. Its easy to play and learn, but still has things in the game that you can master and become great player.
I wish Hulk had a nickname for Chun Li, like "Karate Lady".
Also, is it me or are all the female characters one to two cup sizes bigger? I guess they're adhering to comic book standards, but if Jean had melons like that, Scott would've never dumped her for Emma.

I laugh at the fact Marvel couldn't leave Zorn as "Magneto on Drugs".
Aside from the quick combos with Magneto or Storm, a lot of the really execution-heavy stuff comes into play if you're playing Dhalsim or Anakaris. And, in theory if your timing was perfect, you can get a lead and 3 meters, put Sakura into Dark Sakura mode, and run out the clock with gapless teleport spam. It has 0 frames of startup and recovery.
So does anyone know the current standing for Captain America in MvC3? The game isn't out yet and things are subject to change obviously, but i remember reading that he was pretty awful in the earlier builds of the game.
All I noticed about him in recent footage is that his shield throw hits on the rebound now. It's like a boomerang. Don't know anything about how he's shaping up otherwise.
I really wouldn't put too much stock into preview impressions anyway. I'm still laughing at that Joystiq preview.

Well, a lot of people right now are saying it isn't so much that he's bad, just that he doesn't play the way he played in MvC2.
As for tier list...the game isn't even out yet so you won't see that for a while.
So I randomly decided to hit up training mode in MvC2 and see what I can still do... not much. I did manage a pretty awesome magneto combo cr.lk cr.fp (launch) magic series XX hyper grav/tempest cr.lk x2 grav/tempest OTG cr.lk cr.fp (launch)
And then I fucked up the magic series... I tried to repeat that and proceeded to fuck up constantly. It really doesn't help that my mind is totally set on doing double circle motions for supers.
Also screwed around with Hayato because frankly, I didn't even remember that he was in this game. He has an akuma super though, so that's cool. He's also got some sort of buff super but I have no idea what it does. He seems pretty cool but I guess he must suck REALLY bad since I've never even heard of him.
For me, Hayato was all about his plasma combos into either his dragon punch or his supers.
It did pretty decent damage for a really easy hit confirm.
I'd be satisfied with Cap losing his double jump (which is terrible) and no invincibility on his cartwheel (for shame), if charging stars could actually punish projectiles at at least mid screen range, hyper charging stars was buffed the same, and he still had some sort of gimmicks. Seems like kara-cartwheel will be the new deal, but that'll pretty character specific.
I wish Hulk had a nickname for Chun Li, like "Karate Lady".

Going to miss his jab air combos though.
It really feels like charging star was meant for a SF4 type of game where punishing mis-spaced projectiles is a big part of anti-zoning. Though I did once punish a hyper viper beam with hyper charging star. It was pretty rad.

Does the standard Charging Star cancel projectiles in MvC2? Because if it does that for MvC3 and they do some other improvements, Cap could easily go from mediocre to pretty good. He just falls short in MvC2 in terms of decent combos, decent supers, and decent damage. All three of his supers are ground-based and his air combos were pretty standard; even working in a few extra jabs with the double-jump combo doesn't add any meaningful damage.
Something I wonder about is if Capcom will fix the issue where supers which move physically move characters along the ground will still properly combo against opponents who have been been bounced slightly. A lot of supers in MvC2 end up being rather iffy if you don't manage to start the ground super while they're standing upright while stunned; it gets pretty annoying to have people take the first hit of a super, then immediately be able to block the rest because of some goofy game mechanic.
Right off the top of my head, Akuma, Ken, Juggernaut, Hayato, and Captain America all suffer from this little problem. It would be nice to be able to deal full damage from all supers at all times against exposed opponents so we don't end up with a plethora of near-useless or extremely situational supers.
Charging Star did cancel out projectiles in MvC2. Can't remember if there was a hit limit though.
Dropping out of ground supers like that was a purposeful inclusion. It was to make sure that some characters didn't do way more damage than intended. You know how in MvC3 they added a ground bounce/relaunch feature that only works once per combo? Well, imagine that some characters like Chun-Li could circumvent that since they have supers they can combo out of. Its kinda like that.
EDIT: No hit absorb limit on normal Charging Star. Can't absorb super projectiles but he can absorb all six hits of Cable's hp Viper Beam or Shuma's six eyes.
Yeah, the word is Cap is all about the shield slash now. He's not bad, just different, like almost all the returning characters are from their MvC2 incarnations.
Charging star used to cancel projectiles, but every time it took it hit it would slow down, meaning that even though Cap wouldn't take damage, he'd have to be really close to actually punish the projectile. More often than not he'd absorb a couple hits and then stop short, leaving him wide open.

Sev: Your gameplay is the most heavily yomi based around. Usually you look for characters that allow you to force guessing situations for big dmg. Even if the guess is mathematically nowhere near in your favor lol. You're happiest when you have either a 50/50, 33/33/33 or even a 75/25 situation to go crazy with. And you will take big risks to force those situations to come up.

TvC had the same system. It takes A LOT of disconnects to get you thrown into DC Hell.
I have always envisioned a system where people get flagged (based on complaints or something) and then will only get matched up against other people who cheat/ragequit/set their headset up next to a phone that's on an automated menu.
But it would be totally hidden so you wouldn't know until you were already boned.
Alternately, maybe they can set the system up so that it's easier to get into the DC Hell but you can also pop out if you just lose a few without quitting.

I despise community-based "bannings". I've run into far too many assholes that enjoy screwing people over just because to endorse such a system.
Randomly related, I haven't played ranked mode in SF4 in months... got into a match today and I have a 5% disconnect ratio. The fuck?

Same deal. With my brief experience with XBL I've managed to earn a 50-60% avoid rating purely from being better than most of the people I play against. And I didn't use my mic.
When I hear you guys talking about cancels, parry, shifting and all that jazz i get so disheartened. All i do is Hadouken, Blade Kick, Jump Kick and do E. Honda's Bitch Slap. I don't think I'll be playing online.
Also, who cares about avoid rating? I have over 50% myself, for the same reason. Doesn't stop ppl from joining my lobbies, or me joining someone else's.

There are a lot of MvC2 players who play like they're controlling the game with a DDR dancepad, so being able to actually do specific moves on purpose will give you a definite advantage.

Brofist, bro. It seems like rage-avoids don't cause your actual reputation rating to go down, though, so it's all good. It's funny how I can have a 0% disco in SF4, and yet 30% avoidance from "quitting early".
edit: I hope MvC3 allows for making personal notes about other players which show up whenever we're sharing a lobby with them. Just pulling up the profile to see a happy/frowny face isn't very descriptive, and navigating through the menu to find out why I thought somebody was a bag of cocks takes too long.
Avoid rating is obviously worthless, but it's an indication of what happens when you let random donks have their say in a rating system. If my avoid rating was instead a 60% "rage-quit" or "disconnect" or "bad manners" or any other arbitrary negative option Capcom might pick -- one that would actually matter -- then it would be a big problem.
From what I understand, the Marvel license card tracks your disconnects and eventually matches you up with players with similar stats. Nothing to do with Microsoft's XBL avoid rating or anything.

It's been said before, but Capcom is usually awesome in throwing in pop gaming references related to them. There's the Deadpool win quote, Chun Li poking fun at the Street Fighter movie in one of the Alpha(?) games ("I'm a cop, not a reporter!"), and probably a lot more.
