Mahzz nodded to Chet, "Very well, Chet, we'll make it work." Mahzz turned away and walked toward the other two elves, but paused a moment "And yes, I can use this blade....possibly in more ways than are apparent." Mahzz turned back to the two elves, and addressed Teo's comment.
"Worry not, I'll do what I can to see that we all succeed. Though I can use the sword as well as any, I'm not built like those two jukkete brutes. My blade serves another purpose besides cutting, to be sure." Mahzz winked, and continued, "Know that I am indeed a wizard. My mentor trained me to preserve, not to defile, but I cannot completely control the power yet. Er, especially when I get angry." Mahzz coughed, feeling slightly embarrassed. "I can help with some doors, and probably get the cage open when we do get ready to escape, but I cannot handle all obstacles. At some point, we may want to let the two rogues in on our plans. I have a few skills that can help them and hurt our enemies as well. Now, allow me to do something about these soiled tunics." Mahzz walked over and grabbed one of the soiled garbs, and brought it over. He took the two that Teo and Coaxoch were holding as well, and huddled them around while the rest of the crowd were still going through the sack contents, oblivious to him and the other elves. He folded and rolled the tunics up into a small bundle. Hopefully Chet would just assume they were planning for the battle. Hidden from view, Mahzz spread his hands over the three bundled up tunics, and whispered the words of a minor cantrip.
Prestidigitation: Clean/Soil/Color 1 cubic foot worth of objects for up to 1 hour. (I'm choosing to clean them)
The caked on blood and grime seemed to fade into the fabric itself, leaving nothing but clean (but still torn) fabric. "No reason we can't go out there looking our best, eh? They'll only stay clean for about an hour though." Mahzz shrugged and grinned in amusement as he handed the tunics back to Coaxoch and Teo. Mahzz may be in a slave pen, but he refuses to wear soiled linens. It's just unsanitary.
Matalihutl looked over the kit. He put on one of the tunics over his own gear. He picked up the headress and examined it. Of course it didn't have any wing or tail feathers on it. That was good. It meant anyone could wear it. He looked around at the sad state of affairs in the pen.
He had violated etiquette and intruded upon holy ground earlier that day, to appeal to Father and his Moon Priests, for his friend Chet. It was a mistake. They would not listen to his testimony in defense of Chet's honor and bravery. Instead, Father merely picked him up and hurled him down off the pyramid into the ring of the Arena below, the very Arena that was being prepared for the games today.
When Father hurls you, you stay hurled. His strength knows no equal. But something gripped Matt as he flew through the air. Something gripped him, held him, and slowed his plummet. Perhaps one of the Moon Priests, under direction of Father, used some sort of enchantment to save him. Perhaps Father simply wished him to live to learn a lesson in manners. Or maybe some third party ... he had trained with Psions powerful enough to perform such feats of telekinesis.
He hit the ground hard, it knocked the wind out of him, but he was uninjured. He stood up and looked to where Father loomed at the edge, peering down at him. Father spoke, but it would be blasphemy to repeat his words here. He directed that if Matt wished to defend his friend, he must do so in the Arena, or else leave and never speak again of the matter. And that is how Matt found himself here, voluntarily subjecting himself to the ordeal of the Palace of Gladiatorial Combat.
What a lowly gang of thieves, foreigners, and elementalists this was. The Arena usually fielded better teams -- surely Chet's enemies had arranged for him to be put in among the lowliest rabble available. Not a single one of them was a proper Draji. But Chet clearly saw potential in them, and he had learned to trust Chet's instincts -- even if Chet's tactics were always a bit dubious. This wouldn't be the first time that Chet's enemies had underestimated him.
Matt knew he would have to pull up the slack, but he also had to trust in these unruly and ill mannered goons. Still holding the Headress, he approached Teo, intruding upon the gathering of her elven cabal.
Remus stands up as Chet begins to talk about group strategy.
"Yah, yah, whatever"- he waves his hand annoyingly at Chet as he walks past Aureus towards the sack. He browses the contents shortly before taking a somewhat darker blue end of a tunic from it and tears it up.
Returning to his seat with that torn piece of cloth, Remus takes a small knife from his belt and gets to work on it. He holds the cloth on his face for measurements for moments. And then carefully makes two holes for his eyes.
In a minute what he holds in his hands is a makeshift, somewhat badly fashioned mask. He wears it, facing Aureus, adjusting it roughly. "Sweet. Now, that's more like it", he says with a grin.

"In peace, vigilance. In war, victory. In death, sacrifice."
The tiny bugman nods in agreement. He reaches into his small l beat up leather bag and pulls out a lit torch... He looks around and stuffs it back in. Then proceeds to pull out and dons his hide armor.
Aureus begins humming a tune, almost absentmindedly to himself as he walks over and casually picks up a tunic. He makes sure his route takes him within ear-shot of the "elf-group" and adds lyrics to his tune... low and subtle...
in elven (purple... common will be green)
"Like a coin I am tossed in the air/
Two sides but always spinning/
To pass unscathed in human lands/
My face is ever-grinning./
Now grouped by one who loves his voice/
May I suggest another choice?"
Aureus pointedly makes eye contact with Teo, as she seems to be somewhat in charge of the "elf-group." He lingers just long enough to overtly scratch at his elbow, indicating a tattoo of an elven tribal sigil... specifically the Night Runners. (drawing of the tattoo is on the way)
He nods towards Remus and speaks quietly to Teo,"This human has my trust. I say we watch each other's backs," he sweeps his eyes to include Coaxoch and Mahzz.
Once Chet sees the human join in the incomprehensible chatter, he decides that it must be some foreigner trade language and not Elvish as he originally thought. No matter, morale is high, and Chet is pleased. They are undoubtedly planning how to win their freedom at his side, the best motivation to fight.
But, Chet Olmec thinks as he paces, I have my freedom, secured by the efforts of myself and the blood of others. I fight for Revenge, a much higher cause. Lord Hueyibad and his minions will not be allowed to destroy Draj with their machinations against the God-King.
Without realizing it, he speaks the last of his thoughts aloud as he turns to address his soldiers:
Audio "And they will not be allowed to destroy Chet Olmec..."
"Ah, now I must introduce you to the most important element of Draji gladiatorial combat: Showmanship. It is not enough that you slaughter, you must entertain and inspire! Every combat is a personal struggle, watched by thousands. The greatest warriors rise to honor and the losers are sacrificed to the glory of the God-King. A defeated enemy living is worth more than ten dead. All that's to say: Take 'em alive, yeah."
He speaks the word of command and his ostentatious clothing transforms with a dazzling display into bejeweled scale armor. Chet Olmec brushes a piece of dust off his shoulder and adjusts his feathered headdress, then surveys his soldiers' preparation for exhibition combat.

Aureus turns from the elves to regard Chet. He finishes donning the crude hemp tunic and draws his saber. With a grin he salutes the cahaluk-wielding warlord.
"Showmanship I can do. A song, a dance, or the artful disembowelment of a foe... really, it's all the same to me."
He takes a few steps back, out of the limelight, and cocks his head towards Remus. "I'm going to stay near the elves, here. Combined, I think we can get through whatever the God-King throws our way in the arena. If that Olmec fellow or the half-giant hobble anything, though, we might do well to finish the enemy off. It'll be like that job against the dwarven mercenary clan... with less sunpriests, hopefully."
"Yah, not a bad plan. We need someone to be a meat-shield. Those large humans seem ideal for it, if not for anything else," Remus replies, a bit distractedly, still fidgeting with his mask.

It isn't long before the slave-master and his Half-Giant guardian come back to the slave pens. Txauch sizes up the assembled gladiators and barks the order for Two-Smiles to assemble the fighters in the outer holding pen - the last place a gladiator waits just before the games begin.
The holding pen here is darker than in the living quarters. Solid stone walls surround them, huddled tightly together as they await the final door to open. Outside they can just hear Maxlixoco bellowing…
"My father spoke to me - and filled me with the vision - an ancient memory from our Kingdom's bloody past… In the early days…" the wizened old priest rattles on, his voice gaining a kind of possessed fervor… " YES, a time of great woe… where these walls - Blessed Gifts from our FATHER - did not stand between us and our enemies… and our enemies were LEGION…"
Maxlixoco begins to tell a story well known by Chet and Mat - the story of the Moonless Ones. In the tale, the budding town of Draaj had just completed the two altars (That would later be central to the temples) of the Moons - Ral and Guthay - while their King Tectuktitlay led his main army in the Cleansing Wars against the denezins that laid claim to what is now Draaj.
But danger is always present - and sensing the absence of the Great Sorcerer King, dark, evil things began to muster against the town - seeking to steal away the Moons - robbing Draaj of its holiest relics. ..
"Were it not for the bravery of the Jasuan Knights, the prowess of the Moon Priest Tlatl, and the Relentlessness of the Black Guard… surely the Moons would have fallen from the sky!"
Then, without warning, the doors to the pen opened - releasing the gladiators into the Arena. Blinking back at the harsh noonday sun, they notice that the arena's courtyard has been changed … Stretches of mudflat, similar to those found surrounding the city's perimeter dot the grounds … and two large, very detailed statues - ornate stone relics dedicated to the two moons, Ral and Guthay are lined up on the Northern and Southern ends of the Arena.
The gladiators gather in the center - the crowd is deafening, cheering on the beginning of the day's bloodsport.
MAP:
Legend: Green tokens will always be players. Blue tokens will be companions (Crowley and the Insectuar spirit companion) Red Tokens will be enemy units.
Map Notes:
Mud Flats - the funny darker colored tiles are difficult terrain - that means they cost double movement to go through and don't allow you to shift (unless you have cool elf powers).
Mud Sinks- The orange areas in the mud flats are mud sinks. Anyone (Ally or Enemy) may make use of a mud-sink like so...
MUD SINK
At-Will Terrain Power
Standard Action
Target: One creature adjacent to you and to a mud sink
Check: Athletics check (14 or higher) to maneuver the target into the mud sink.
Success: You slide the target 1 square into a mud sink square adjacent to it.
Attack: +9 vs. Reflex
Hit: The target is immobilized. (Save Ends)
Aftereffect: The target is slowed. (Save Ends)
Objectives:
Protect the Two Moon statues from assualt and vandalism.
Survive.
Bonus - Mat and Chet recall the story of the Moonless ones, and in the story they know that the Priestess Tlatl fended off the Moonless ones without a scratch - widely believed to be one of the first Miracles to happen in the city of Draaj... Complete the combat without letting Teo become bloodied and you will win the crowd's favor!
Mahzz draws his longsword, and reaches into his shirt while uttering another cantrip.
Prestidigitation, make one small hand-held item invisible until the end of your next turn. (this makes the 2nd one of three that I can have going at one time.
He pulls his hand from his shirt, but he is holding nothing. Perhaps he was just adjusting his shirt? The young wizard stands ready, but wonders of Chet's order, and the uneven split of numbers."Chet, I hope you know what you're doing. But I will try to make it work. Afterall, I still have a few surprises, which I hope I won't have to use." Mahzz truly hopes he doesn't have to use his spells too much. There's no telling how everyone would react. And could he bluff everyone into thinking it was not an arcane power? The crowd maybe, as they are distant and care only for bloodshed. But the combatants in the arena he wasn't sure about, and he had no idea how the Templars would both react once they found out he was truly a wizard. Mahzz thought to himself, ~This should really be interesting.~
Quick Gear-Reference: Mahzz wields a +2 Generic Magic Wand in his offhand, which is invisible until the end of his next turn. He also wields a +1 Viscious Longsword (1d12 critical per plus) Finally, the red coat he wears under the tunic is made from bloodthread, so +1 Cloth armor, enhancement is AC. It gives an additional +2 to his AC when he is bloodied.
I am also declaring these spells being prepped at time of capture and has not switched any around during his time in the cell (too much time talking to the other prisoners hehe)
At-Wills: Magic Missile, and Cloud of Daggers.
Encounter: Force Orb, and Shock Sphere
Daily: Horrid Whispers, and Fireball
Utility: Guardian Blades, and Fire Shield. (both are daily)
When the slave master returned, Coax almost didn't notice him - she was too busy staring at the man speaking elven... another short elf? but he had a beard as humans called it?! what the hell was going on?! And the mark of a Night Runner tribe?! With the communion heightening her perceptions, Coaxoch's mind was racing with hundreds of questions for the man...
Suddenly light poured into the room, forcing her to stop staring blatantly at the rogue and squint at the sudden change. The erdlu said something about 'ego of Gunther' or something.. hopefully Teo had been paying attention...
She was grinning now, speaking to Teo and anyone else who might here. "Your spirits are with us I see... bringing us a 2 Elves to complete our party, as if they knew our ways. But now we have a problem, the feathers your are to wear are quite the target, and as the high warrior of the Xiuhcoatle tribe I will not let my leader be hunted so easily." She casually ran her fingers across the feathered headdress in Teo's hands, and cast a sideways glance to Mahzz. "Perhaps someone could make them blue? and we would have two targets for them to choose from..."
Smile becoming slightly to wide, Coax motioned to Crowley and whistled softley. The snake slithered up her arm, propping his wing up behind her head and coiling around her like a headdress himself. It didn't look like the other hat per say, but it would cause just enough confusion to catch them off guard. She hoped.
Matalihutl speaks quickly to Kabocha in Giant, with a Draji accent. "You and I have two things to defend. The first is that statue there." Matt points at the Altar of Ral. "The second thing is the Priestess." He points at Teo. "Would you be so kind as to protect the statue, and I'll protect the Priestess?"
Then Matt looks to the Bug Monster, and switches back to Common, pointing emphatically to Aureus and Remus. "Help them. Kill enemies."
Mahzz blinks at Coaxoch a moment, then understands. Mahzz whispers something, and the feathers on Teo's Headdress fade to the same blue color as Crowley. He hopes the other members just think it is a parlor trick or a psionic trick. He grins back at Coaxoch, trying to hold back a snicker. Mahzz thinks, ~Clever Girl. This is definitely going to be interesting!~
Prestidigitaion: color change, headdress should be small enough, and the effect lasts an hour.
This is the last one that Mahzz can have active for now (until the invis on the wand wears off)
Bluff attempt on trying to hide arcane since Mahzz is doing this openly.

Teo is grateful for the newly-clean tunics. It isn't in her nature to be preoccupied with appearances before a battle, but her pride rebels at being seen as a filthy slave by a bunch of faithless humans. She eyes the tunic a moment longer before slipping it over her head. It is ill-fitting, but serviceable.
She has no chance to thank Mahhz properly for the gesture, as the smaller erdlu intrudes upon their circle holding the ridiculous headress from the sack. Hers? Why should he give her such a thing? Surprise causes her to automatically take the offering and he is gone by the time she finds her tongue. She turns back to Mahzz and Coax and mutters, mostly to herself.
"Why must I wear this hideous thing? It looks like something a sand shark chewed up and spit back out."
She gets no chance to continue her complaint, as her attention is captured by what she had thought to be a human. Yet he speaks elven? And is marked? Curious, Teo makes note to speak with him later...provided they all survived the coming battle.
The olliluqui is pulsing through her system now, and her senses feel on fire. She ignores the droning of the speech-maker in the background and instead reaches out to the spirits; their voices were still so faint, down here, but soon they would be above ground again, back in the true air. Back in the thrill of battle.
The sudden change from light to dark blinds her momentarily, but she hears Chet's orders...and his specific warning to her. The concern in his voice would have irritated her, coming from anyone else, but to hear it from him was...disconcerting.
"Coaxoch," she addresses the warrior in common, for the benefit of any who need know of her intentions. "We will defend this...altar, as he said. You will be the first line of defense, but be sure not to get in the way of any of Mahhz's," she pauses almost imperceptibly, swallows the word she was about to utter. "...efforts. Do all you can to let nothing through!"
She overhears the templar called Matt designate himself as her "protector", and turns to him, puzzled. There must be something significant about this odd headdress that will single her out, but what?
"I don't intend to let my companions take their positions without my help. I truly don't understand you humans and your war games. What makes me so much worthier of protection in this battle?"
Chet Olmec bristles at Mahzz's statement, then shrugs. He is unused to explaining his commands, but in this case it can do no harm.
"Heavy and Light Squads guard the Altar of Ral because there is more room to maneuver on that side of the battlefield. I will be in the middle to direct the battle and reinforce and rescue as needed. Elf Squad is tasked with guarding the Altar of Guthay because I trust Mr. Crowley to make the right decision. Attempting to disguise himself as the headdress to create a decoy priestess? This sort of cleverness is worthy of Draj!"
Then he eyes Mahzz with suspicion:
Audio "I also want to see your abilities. You are an unknown quantity, and you have promised me surprises. I do not like surprises."
Turning away, Chet claps his hands once, twice, thrice and points out the altar of Ral for the half-giant.
"Right, Kabocha, let's get moving. Allllright."
Battlefront Shift

Cha'ka looks to the statue and grunts a deep primordial sound that seems to ripple through time itself. With what only seems to be a few steps Cha'ka is no more and an insectal Dagorran stands in his place.
As it moves towards the statue, it howls a blood curdling sound that emphasizes his years of pain and his need for gore. This beast is on the prowl ready to pounce the closest "snack".
Minor: Wild SHAPE, shift to I18
Move: Moves to E14
Standard: Ready a charge for the first enemy that is within range (8 squares). Pounce @will for charge
Coaxoch survey's the area and finds the best place for her and Teo to make their stand- the mudflats would due nicely.
"Teo - lets take to the flats near the alter. You can move into the terrain and use it to escape injury and give me time to aid you if they get to close..." Usually she would never order the shaman to do anything - but this was battle, and battle was her specialty. Teo undoubtedly knew the routine. It was up to her if she wanted to include the other elves...
She whistles to Crowley, cueing the serpent to fly with her as she jogs across the arena.
With the familiar schick of her wrist razors springing forth, she took a readied stance near the alter of guthay as crowley balanced himself upon her head and shoulders once more.
Double Move: jogs to R15 (speed 7)
Minor action: Triggers her wrist razors
Free: cues Crowley to take up his balancing act once more.
Kabocha grins widely. Time for a bit of action. The statue assigned for her to protect was fairly close. She had no problem taking direction in battle. And thus far she only had two. Keep the glorified rock safe and put on a show. Hell, it might even be fun.
Brandishing her weapon and shouting to the crowd, “WIES JY? FOKKOL!” Followed by a roar that shook her chest. The rage would start to flow in time with the blood, but there was nobody to say she couldn't stir it a bit beforehand.
Tightening her grip on her weapon, she edged closer to the statue. There was no use in scowling, as she was covered by the mask. But any vrees her enemy didn't feel for her now, she'd more than make up for in due time.
WIES JY? FOKKOL! = d'ya know what ya are? fuck all!
vrees = fear
Free Action: Speed = 5/2 = 2.5 + round down = shift 2 From J15 to H14
Free Action: Shouts like a madwoman
Move Action: H14 to D14
Standard Action: Ready a charge for enemy who comes in range. Knockdown Assualt as my @will during charge.
Matalihutl addresses Teo. "I'm protecting you because that's how this game works. I don't think Mr. Crowley's trick is going to work, unless we're fighting half-blind imbeciles, but I suppose its worth the effort if he thinks so!"
(move action) Matt moves in a straight line from M16 to S16, crouching low, like a Bug Monster ready to pounce on any enemies that come near. (standard action to ready a charge, charging speed while unbloodied = 6)
Mahzz smirks, and responds to Chet, "Well, Chet, I am sorry to disappoint. YOu will surely not like this surprise! Mahzz thrusts his longsword to the sky, chanting arcane words. A patch of grass blackens and crumbles to ash. He then shouts to the sky, "Blades of my ancestors, ward me. Rend the flesh of those who would do harm to my allies and I!" Three semi-transparent blades shimmer into existence and start spinning around the wizard, ready to lash out at anything that would harm him or his allies. Mahzz glances at Chet, and shrugs apologetically, then follows after Mia. He doesn't pay attention to Chet's reaction.

Aureus draws his saber and dagger and moves a few steps towards the Alter of Raj. He sees the tactical value in Chet's battle plan, but is keeping the elves in sight and within sprinting range should he feel the need to change plans. All in all, he thinks to himself, they look like a capable group and will likely fare well without him. Still, he remains alert...
Time to see how they do as a team then, thinks Remus. Time to do what he does best. Slowly sinking out of eveybody's attention, he walks to the alter Chet told him to protect, and gets behind it.

It is time. Teoxihuitle breathes deeply, sharpening her focus, and watches her two elf companions lope across the sand to the altar Chet has put in their care. Mahzz does indeed seem to have a knack for surprises. Their impromptu templar leader was going to have to get used to that, it seems. She turns to regard the human and, heady with anticipation for the battle, grins at him when he finishes his speech.
“I wish you a good fight, templar, or at least the spectacular death that you prize so highly.”
So saying, she turns away and murmers an incantation. "Spirits of the sand and fire, come to my side and strengthen my arm, for the glory of the Xiuhcoatle tribe." There is a flurry of sand and fire, and then the fierce, angular form of her spirit companion, Xipil comes into view. He growls in greeting and then the two dash after her guardian and their new ally, Xipil trailing behind, taking in his surroundings and senses reaching to find the first enemy.
Move action 1: Teo Double moves from I16 to S17.
Move action 2: Xipil moves from H15 to O15.
The gladiators had no problem making an impression on the audience that day, from the raucous guffaws from the fans as they watched the elf try to wear a snake as a headdress - to the wide-mouthed gasps that erupted when Mahzz unleashed his arcane might and surrounded himself with barely visible blades...
The tension was palpable, even the Great Moon Priest announcing must have felt it as he intoned...
"Today we give honor to Tlatl the unscathed ... but it as honor that must be earned IN BLOOD! RELEASE... Uexitatl, the Eater of Moons and his profane followers! Witness, citizens of Draaj - let us watch and see... can these wretched nine bring us a Miracle today?"
With that, the entire arena fell deadly silent - the only sounds to be heard were the grinding of hidden doors being opened....
Through the western exits came what could be a man... it was certainly the right shape and size, but covered in blackness that was darker than pitch, with eyes that were sunken in and colored an empty, vengeful black. The wretched thing seemed without soul, and indeed the only thing that gleamed around him was the very wicked edges of his long, cruel knife that was bent like a crescent. The crowd booed and hissed at the figure, who knew well the story of IX, the Moonless thief, stealer of hearts, corrupter of sacrifice..
And they knew well the story of his priests - false prophets, no more priests than they were real men - yet they carried savage scourges, barbed to flay the skin of their victims - the very skin they wore now as profane trophies, painted and dyed dark indigos and blacks...
And they knew too well about the Ixitota, those sacrificed by the thief of hearts... still living slaves, without a soul they follow the commands of their cruel master without pause or thought of their own safety. Stumbling figures, painted in black and yellow, their chests showing an open gash where one could easily see a dark black rock sitting where once there was a heart.
These evil things begin to pour out of the western side - to the horror and delight of the spectators - but then every head turned East... for if this was to be the battle of Ix and Atatl, it would mean... Uexitatl. It seemed as if everyone in the arena had held their breath and when the Eastern door had finished opening it was clear to see why.
In a flash of movement, a monstrous demon-shaped figure - the thing of nightmares - appeared. Its hide was a dull, lusterless black that seemed to absorb the harsh sunlight hungrily as it pawed the ground with its hideous hooves. The beast was twice as tall as a man, with four powerful legs that ended in wicked black obsidian-black hooves... monstrous things that left impossible black hoofprints emblazoned in the ground beneath it.
Flanking the abomination came more of the Ixitota, Moonless sacrifices tending to their false god - the beast - the devourer of the moons, Uexitatl.
From all sides of the stadium come the shrieks and weeping of children, the terrified hush of brave men - hardened soldiers - giving thanks to their god-king that they are not the ones down below... the ones that must surely die... For didn't it take a miracle granted by Tectuktitlay himself to survive such opponents?
----
The action started immediately, within moments of their entrance, Chet Olmec whipped his whirling cahulaks over the mudflat and at the body of the foremost Ixitota, delivering it a blow that hits the unwitting sacrifice so hard that the magic commanding it to life gives out, sending it to the floor of the arena - there's a cheer from the crowd "FIRST BLOOD!"
Chet's Readied ranged attack: Rolled an 8+10=18, good enough for a hit an AC 18, kills the minion MS5.
Cha'ka, the terrifying bugman, also pounced into action - leaping bodily at one of the false priests - a brave and selfless effort, that lands just short. The insectoidial monster that is Cha'Ka chittered angrily as the agile Flayer sidestepped his assault with a malevolent grin.
Cha'Ka's readied Pounce/Charge: Rolled a 6+9 = 15, not good enough to hit Reflex 21, misses Moonless Flayer 2. Cha'ka's new position is H6.
The scourge-wielding priest cracked his devious weapon and lashed out at his insect assailant, ensnaring the thing and dragging it around behind him to feed to his master as a valuable sacrifice.
MF2's Whip-Drag attack hit: (4+11=15 vs. Fort 14 for 19 damage and slides Cha'Ka 3 squares to I4.
The other priest, eyeing the altar of Ral, began racing north, but was intercepted by the obsidian-masked Kabocha... whose furious smashes land wide, but signal her intent for destruction of her enemies.
MF1 Interrupted by Kabocha's readied charge.
Kabocha rolled 6+11+1=18 vs. Fort 20m, not good enough. I assume that Kabocha will want to Mark it.
Hissing at the half-giant, the priest lashed out , dragging his wicked scourge over the back of the valiant brute, leaving a nasty, open wound.
Encounter power Whip Flay: 9+13=22 vs. AC 22 HIT, 3d8+7= 14 damage, plus 10 ongoing damage (save ends).
The battle is joined by one of the Ixitota, who has circled around to flank the bugman. With slow, but powerful motions, the heartless thing lifts its obsidian-edged war-mace, but brings it down too slowly to connect.
Moonless Sacrifice 4 rolls a natch 1 on his attack and whiffs the attack against Cha'Ka.
But the crowd doesn't cheer - because they see the hated IX take advantage of the positioning, and the Heart-Thief slides into a position flanking the bugbeast - who is now feeling pretty crowded - and he slices at the thick chitinous carapace with his crescent knife....
Ix attacks with combat advantage against Cha'Ka, using his "Wounding dagger" attack.
He rolls 19+12=31 vs. AC - which hits and crits. It does 1d6+12= 13 damage plus an ongoing 5 damage.
Ix's Combat Advantage power allows him to do an additional 2d6=2 damage to Cha'ka.
Damage total to Cha'ka is now: 19 (from the flayer) + 15 (From Ix) equaling 34 with 5 ongoing damage (save ends).
To the east, the demonic Uexitatl charged towards the altar of Guthay, only to be met head on by the brave and noble Matalihutl of house Tenoch, a brave action that brought loud cheers as the audience watched the man rush headlong at the thing...
Mat does a charge to square S22.
Basic Melee Attack: 4+11+1=16 vs. AC 22. MISS.
Demonic Frenzy - Uexitatl is missed by a melee attack, and he makes a frenzied slam attack against his opponent as an immediate reaction. He rolls 2+13=15 vs. Mat's AC of 23. MISS.

Attack 1:10+13= 23 vs. AC Hit - 1d8+6=13
Attack 2: 11+13=24 vs. AC Hit - 1d8+6=12
Mat's taken 25 damage.
... which gets the beast's attention, though if that's a good thing is left for debate amongst the gathered crowds at the arena as they watch the Moon-Eater slam its massive hooves down again and again, buffeting the noble warrior. All the while the shuffling of the Ixitota behind him draw closer and closer.
Thats the end of Round 1. PLEASE check http://wiki.rpg.net/index.php/Shattered_Lands/Current_Combat For the new map and vital stats and whatnot, and if you haven't already, why not put your own stats in there for your character for the ease of everyone's reference.
Superquick recap: 25 damage to Mat. 34 (5 ongoing) to Cha'Ka. And 14 damage to Kabocha (10 ongoing).
Matalihutl feels the beast's massive hooves come down not once, but twice, smashing past his shield and knocking the wind from him.
"You have made a mistake, demon-beast!" Matt's eyes begin to glow, a perfect circular halo of glowing mental energy forming around his head -- one of the trademark aspects of a Battlemind. "I am no common warrior." Matt's massive Craghammer was sent toward the beast's face, humming with perfect mental focus. "I am your worst nightmare!"

Teoxihuitle is horrified when the giant beast strikes Mat down, but he seems to rally quickly, so she moves her attentions to the smaller creatures accompanying the Beast. She turns to Coax.
"Keep the Templar in your sights, aid him as you can, but target that Beast first! I will aid you from afar."
She reminds herself to take care to keep some distance between the creatures and herself, as her safety seems to be paramount to this 'Game'. She orders Xipil closer to the major point of battle, his restrained power prepares to unleash itself, but he's still not quite close enough. Hoping for extra guidance from the spirits, she also strains her senses and tries to gain some insight into what this strange being might be. The slightest recollection from her teachings might help them in their fight.
Then, pulse pounding and from the power she gathers within her, she prepares to strike at the giant creature that Mat is facing down.
"Warrior spirit, aid my companions and strike death down upon this monster!"
She feels it when the power leaves her, headed straight for the giant black creature that Mat is facing down.

Chet Olmec revels in his kill with the cheering crowd, but then sees Cha'Ka Chkit go down in a flailing pile of knife stabs and the scourging of the mighty Kabocha. With a shout of anger he is on his way, slamming into one of the Flayers and slicing into it. He catches the priest with the rope of his cahulaks and drags him over. Letting the cahulaks dangle, he raises a mighty fist and addresses Cha'Ka:
Audio "Cha'Ka! Watch and know the power of Draj! OLMEC PUNCH!"
The fist slams into the priest, the arcane power that fuels it expanding in a roiling zone of magical energy around Chet Olmec and his victim. As the priest sways from the sheer force of the blow, Chet picks him up and flings him headlong into the mud flat. Then he turns to face the crowd, slamming his fists upon his armor.

Mahzz was not prepared for the onslaught before him. The thri-kreen gets surrouded and is wounded pretty heavily. Mat charges forward and distracts the demonic beast. Teo and Mia both take their positions. Mahzz curses under his breath, "Dammit, I didn't sign on for this! A demon of all things? Dammit dammit dammit! Very well, you force my hand. Now.....BURN!" Mahzz chants as he moves toward the center of the arena, and cries, "Flames of Athas, Engulf my enemies. Burn them to cinders! BLAST THEM TO ASH!" A wave of heat shimmers along Mahzz's sword. Then, a blazing sphere of fire bursts forth from the wizard, streaking past the flying snake, almost singing his wings, and strikes the ground in the middle of the demon and its minions. A ring of flames explodes outward engulfing all, and narrowly missing his companions.

Remus watches Cha, the Thri-kreen that was hugging everyone, take a hit. He is clearly wounded. Badly.
Not good. This is not good. As soon as they are done with him, they will turn to Aureus, and gradually they will come looking for himself.
Remus knows none of the adversaries have paid any attention to him yet. The bugman doesn't look like he will make it, but Remus has to try. He should risk moving forward a bit, as Chet cleverly slides Ix. Clever move. Ix is dazed at this sudden turn of events.
Now is the time.
Remus moves by the side of the altar. Aims his crossbow at Ix and shoots. And then moves back away as fast as he had emerged, and hides himself.

Everyone's favorite Draji Mind-Knight is filled with perfect confidence, having achieved his exalted Harmonious state. However, there is a ripple of concern that echoes around him, one that the demon could sense.
Where's my back-up?
The giant beast rears up in confidence, about to strike a telling blow against the momentarily weakened Matalihutl.
Then fire erupts around his enemies, hot enough that it singes the tips of his eyelashes. "Aha! Defiler! I'm glad you're on my side!"
New confidence surges through the battlemind, reinforcing his mental defenses.
Matt casts a quick, tauntingly haughty glance to the two elven females. "Come on, ladies. Don't let the boys have all the fun! Have no fear -- if he tries to hurt you, I'll teach him a lesson in manners he won't soon forget!"
Mahzz is still concerned about those groups to the northwest. The two rogues move in to flank IX. The situation with Mat and their bunch is a little more under control.....as much as fighting a demon can ever be under control. However, the Moon Flayers bother him. With another surge of confidence and gusto, he calls up more power from his reserves. Mahzz bows his head as he chants, wand pointing to the northwest. The air shimmers, and the echoes of whispers surround the enemies to the northwest.

Watching Matalihutl meet the beast head on makes Coaxochs blood boil in jealousy - the combination of the crowd, the creature and the communion sharpen her vision to one distinct point: The beast will fall.
Judging the distance to the attack, Crowley would not make it there in time, she could not rely on his strength just yet. But she would not sit by idly either! With a short whistle told the snake to move before sprinting toward the beast; razors ready.
A scream of rage and anticipation broke forth as she leapt at the creature, slicing wide gashes in its side.

"This is yours if you care to wear it."
The tiny bugman nods in agreement. He reaches into his small l beat up leather bag and pulls out a lit torch... He looks around and stuffs it back in. Then proceeds to pull out and dons his hide armor.

She hoped.
"I bet they will love surprises..."
Then Matt looks to the Bug Monster, and switches back to Common, pointing emphatically to Aureus and Remus. "Help them. Kill enemies."

Minor action: Triggers her wrist razors

Brandishing her weapon and shouting to the crowd, “WIES JY? FOKKOL!” Followed by a roar that shook her chest. The rage would start to flow in time with the blood, but there was nobody to say she couldn't stir it a bit beforehand.
Tightening her grip on her weapon, she edged closer to the statue. There was no use in scowling, as she was covered by the mask. But any vrees her enemy didn't feel for her now, she'd more than make up for in due time.

Move action 2: Xipil moves from H15 to O15.
The scourge-wielding priest cracked his devious weapon and lashed out at his insect assailant, ensnaring the thing and dragging it around behind him to feed to his master as a valuable sacrifice.
The other priest, eyeing the altar of Ral, began racing north, but was intercepted by the obsidian-masked Kabocha... whose furious smashes land wide, but signal her intent for destruction of her enemies.
The battle is joined by one of the Ixitota, who has circled around to flank the bugman. With slow, but powerful motions, the heartless thing lifts its obsidian-edged war-mace, but brings it down too slowly to connect.
But the crowd doesn't cheer - because they see the hated IX take advantage of the positioning, and the Heart-Thief slides into a position flanking the bugbeast - who is now feeling pretty crowded - and he slices at the thick chitinous carapace with his crescent knife....
MISS.
Standard Action, Double Attack - he makes two slam attacks against Mat.

Superquick recap: 25 damage to Mat. 34 (5 ongoing) to Cha'Ka. And 14 damage to Kabocha (10 ongoing).
One dead minion. MF1 is marked.
"You have made a mistake, demon-beast!" Matt's eyes begin to glow, a perfect circular halo of glowing mental energy forming around his head -- one of the trademark aspects of a Battlemind.
