I may start street fighting again, all these streams and such are making me want to play and I might be heading to a local thing this Friday to see if I can still beat people heh.
SRK is down. SF4 is officially balanced, a Dhalsim won a major.

Sev: Your gameplay is the most heavily yomi based around. Usually you look for characters that allow you to force guessing situations for big dmg. Even if the guess is mathematically nowhere near in your favor lol. You're happiest when you have either a 50/50, 33/33/33 or even a 75/25 situation to go crazy with. And you will take big risks to force those situations to come up.
Glad FC won. He's a funny guy and I've seen him fake-complain on KSL streams about how he always comes in second place to Ricky, so it's good to see him win over everyone.
edit.. i actually got distracted during the finals so I don't know how crazy they were, but otherwise my fight of the night was Valle/Daigo by far.

Moment of the night was Tokido becoming the Raging Demon
Seeing that picture it's not as great as it was made out to be. I'm not sure if he was really trying to get the symbol on the back of his shirt or if he was just doing the Akuma pose and part of it ended up on him by chance. If it's the latter I'm once again not as entertained.

He took off his jacket before doing it and it looked a lot closer in a video than in that picture.
Either way, was pretty fucking amazing. Tokido is making me want to play Akuma all over again.
I totally agree with Sixfourtyfive that SCR has been the best major tournament this year by far. So many great matches and moments.
FilipinoChamp actually plays a Sim i want to watch, how crazy is that?!
Tokido really cleaned up at this tournement and his play is great. He's also not affraid to be cheap as you could see by his matches against Vangief. Man i felt sorry for him, the fireball barrage was just a wall. And before you get upset, "cheap" is a relative term. What i call cheap could also be called a totally valid tactic. As a Hakan player i get walled by that Akuma play all the time so i'm a bit salty about it.

Umehara vs Valle was my favorite match of the top 8 when I watched it last night. I never would have expected a Ryu mirror to be so tense. It's even better after learning that these guys have been at it since the first(?) official US vs JP event in 1998.
Ha, funny how our perspectives change as new ways of play are discovered. That's not exactly what we would call high level Alpha 3 play today, but back then they were the best of the best. Nice find Sixfortyfive.
"Murderface" supposedly originates from his game face at EVO 2010. He looked like he was about to cut somebody, win or lose, in every damn game. (The footage of him vs Daigo in HDR is particularly funny. Daigo, instead of being the usual stoic that he is, is cracking a smile the entire time, while Tokido looks absolutely furious.)
The live stream was peppered with comments like "Mr. Rape Face" and "Tokido with the murder face." They stuck with the Japanese, apparently. Tokido supposedly signed up to EVO as "Tokido the Ice Man" and to SCR as "Tokido the Murder Face."
That was one of the crazy points of this tournament. That guy Jayce the Ace, he was 16 and had a very cool Viper. They were commenting on how some in the tournament had been playing street fighter longer than he'd been alive. It's good to see new blood in the tournaments, especially young people. (I sound so old)
Also on the commentating, a lot of people gave UltraDavid crap on the stream chat, but i really liked his and Jason Chen's commentary, it was technical, hype, understandable and fun. It's what good commentating should be.

I really liked the overall SCR commentating. I alternated between SCR and a TeamSpooky stream over the weekend, and honestly, the TS commentating was just so ghetto. It was almost distracting.

Yup, that's SF for you, all it takes is ONE move at high levels to turn things around sometimes.

Whats crazy is that Tokido could have beaten Daigo if he hadn't dropped that one combo on match point.
He threw the match because he lost their game of rock paper scissors.
In all seriousness, what was that all about anyway?
I've heard rumors that it was about who got 2nd player side or who got stage select. Didn't watch the replays to see if they did random on the stage select or not though.

I can't agree with you more on this. I've seen Jason Chen with TS commentating and he's usually the better, but with UltraDavid the commentating was classy. It was everything it needed to be and made the tournament look professional instead of a bunch of dogs barking.
And if i had my choice, i'd take the PG or PG-13 stream over the R stream anyday, but that's my personal preference.

I agree completely. Some people in the community seem to think the commentary was boring and dry, but I found it to be not obnoxious like every Spooky stream I've ever watched. No one said "Grabbin' 'dem titties" even once when there was a Zangief playing.

Grats to Daigo for pulling himself out of that SF4 slump.
Grats to Tokido for everything.
So hype.

What's also awesome from the Youtube above, is that while he was imitating Akuma, he was also in a way imitating Chris Jericho.

Seriously, just play this at the same time as the above vid. It totally lines up with "Break the walls down!"
(If you're having trouble, have the lyric "You know I got ya" start at the same time as the ultra starts.)

Also I found out that this exact phrase is a meme on Nicovideo last night. That's pretty great.

Daigo wins the Japanese national tournament, gets flown to San Fran to face the winner of the US tournament. Cool stuff.
And that pick is pretty cool and really inventive.
EDIT: Alex looks so young in that video. Daigo hasn't changed too much.

Japan bringing the showmanship. Good times.
News flash, Daigo is actually 65 years old and no one can tell.
