Does anyone else find this game sloppy compared to FO3 when it comes to the world itself?
I don't ever remember there being this many invisible walls or issues with the ground texture not actually lining up to the ground in FO3. I've wasted an annoying number of shots because they are blocked by an invisible cliff face. Or like certain couches seem to have an invisible wall over the seat part preventing you from placing things on it and a ton of items seems to "float" on shelves/desks.
I mean it's not game breaking and I'm loving the game but it just seems a lot more sloppy overall.
I agree to an extent. But frankly, I think alot of that can be forgiven given the sort of time frame Obsidian had to develop the game. Two years to develop a game of this scale even using an existing engine is no small task. Not to mention I imagine Obsidian's staff size versus Bethesda's would also be a factor.
When developing Fallout 3, Bethesda had more time and resources to really fine tune the experience and they were working with tools that they were already intimately familiar with. Taking that into consideration I think Obsidian did all right in that regard.
New Vegas's marketing was pretty cool, yeah. Defeated by my inclination not to check out anything before the game launched, but hell, I saw bits and pieces.
I remember F3's marketing being great too. I love those deaaaaaaaaaaaaaar hearts and geeeeentle people...
Yeah going back and watching the E3 trailers for both New Vegas and Fallout 3, you can tell their marketing department was really on the ball. The music choices for both trailers were inspired, and the gameplay sequences included in the trailers were nicely choreographed. It brings a smile to my face to think of how many piles of C4 they must have used for that final explosion shot in the New Vegas trailer.
Not to mention how deliciously awesome the "Prepare for the Future" live action ad was in the Fallout 3 E3 trailer was.

I would say sloppy in regards to technical execution itself. Yes. But that has rather always been an Obsidian problem. As far as design goes I love it. Very remicent of actual Nevada locations and a lot more logical in structure than FO3 ever was. Though F3 still wins in the aesthetical section. But thats Beths expertise.
Oh yeah no doubt, the setting itself feels a lot more like the originals. It's just a lot of the actual in game world stuff feels kind of messy. The setting itself has been a blast though. Only real complaint in regards to that is the size. There have been a few times it's felt kind of cramped, especially after exploring a bit, but it's not really complaint worthy in my opinion.
The item floating problem has always been an issue with Gamebyro.
And I've played 35 hours now, and have still only seen that 1 invisible wall by sloan :?
There have been more ground clipping problems though. Especially with radscorps
I've run into quite a few of them, also places where the ground doesn't connect properly but I also do a lot of sniping and as a result go cliff climbing on a pretty regular basis. And I've definitely seen a lot of clipping issues, especially at long distances though a scope for some reason.
Again none of it has been game breaking at all, just kind of a minor annoyance :P

Yeah I know what you mean. I dunno if New Vegas is actually smaller than the Capital Wasteland but it "feels" smaller somehow. It might just be an illusion created by less distance between major landmarks though. In Fallout 3, the time it would take you to walk between the major points of interest felt larger either due to convoluted routes to the objective, or actual distance to cover.
In hindsight, it could also be the number of major points of interest in New Vegas vs. Fallout 3 too. It feels like New Vegas is more densely populated. With the NCR and Legion in the region, you generally can't travel very far without stumbling upon some kind of outpost of civilization. In comparison, Fallout 3's wasteland felt more barren with larger stretches of unpopulated land.
It makes sense that this would be a conscious choice too though. With Fallout 3 they were obviously going for a "barren post apocalyptic" feel. With New Vegas, I get the impression they were trying for more of a "post apocalyptic wasteland on the road to recovery" sort of feel in New Vegas.
I just encountered my first batch of mystical ground scorpions yesterday.
I was out testing my new Gauss Rifle (Quicksave, KILL EVERYONE, Quickload, KILL EVERYONE, Quickload, KILL EVERYONE) when I saw a bunch of little scorpion tails wagging around in the sand.
I think the winding path you follow to the strip plays a part too. If you go off exploring while following the main quest you're almost bound to cover ground you've already seen before even if only from a distance.

I've fallen through the world more times than I can count on my hands. It's an understatement to say it just sloppy. Sometimes you walk into a room and suddenly things just start falling off of shelves because they weren't placed properly. There are just little things that accumulate. Every weapon has iron sights except laser rifles and pistols. It's like they got lazy at certain points. Sometimes you'll be talking to someone, and it's obvious there was a change in voice actor. Not just a subtle difference, like they got Barry White to sub in for Kermit the frog.
There aren't as many invisible walls as there were in Fallout 3, nearly every pile of rubble in every street was blocked by a wall in DC, its just in the Mojave, it is much more noticeable because there are walls in places that typically in Fallout 3, you were able to walk on.
Anyways, given all of the problems, I like this game much more. Though, after playing through the story twice, I feel less attached to it. Fallout 3 seemed as if you were fighting for a purpose.
In my game he says shit like "got away," or "gone" whenever an enemy gets taken out. Is that a bug? Hardly seems like the guy got away since his head just got spread all over the desert sands.
You know what I would love in this game? If, at any point in time, the markers on the compass gave you any indication as to what they belonged to, and where what they belonged to actually were. I can't stand walking to a marker, realizing it's two levels above me (which requires loading new sections of whatever building I'm in, then getting there and realizing it was for an optional objective to the quest that gives information to complete it in a way I don't want to!
All I'm asking is for some sort of guidelines, like they should be hollow if it is to optional objectives, and a different shape if they are not on the same plane as you. It would be amazingly helpful at not wasting time....

Local maps in multi-level areas are fucking useless.

Not a bug no, just a case of generic situational dialogue. Sort of a "If enemy A not found then execute dialogue A or dialogue B" kind of AI routine.

Splatter someone's head across the pavement, and he follows up with "Next time let me aim that for you", well fuck you too Boone.

I don't mind an impassable wall of rubble though.
I do mind "Walking along a cliff ledge whoawaitwhyamIbeingpushedoffwhatthefuck"

If you've got your computer set to render at a range beyond default, you can see enemies and your companions can fight enemies beyond their detection range for the purposes of conversation.
It's really annoying to snipe an entire legion camp, but have Boone continually complain about my bad aim because his AI script can't detect it.

Thats my point. There were tons of them in FO3, which were well placed and made sense. The ones in the Mojave are awfully placed and often make no sense.

Recent amusing bugs I've discovered:
NPCs walking face first into large objects and they keep on walking.
A shop owner was drinking from a bottle awkwardly and continued to do so until I selected my first dialogue option.
Less amusing bugs
Those baby winged insects (Cazadores?) getting stuck in a rock and nipping at my feet as I try to land hits whenever their bodies sufficiently leaves the rock.
So uh, I hear that no matter what your radiation resistance level is you can't get lower than 1 RAD/SEC. Can someone on PC confirm this?
space suit + Rad X + rad resistance, standing near a 1 rad zone, still 1 rad. i would say confirmed.
Try counting the resulting rads. I've been in 1 Rad zones, and I swear I was getting less than 1 a sec, it just doesn't say less than 1. Haven't actually checked myself, though.

This has been my experience too, when I did Searchlight last I had the space suit + RAD-X + the 25% rad resistance perk. My screen said 1 rad/sec but I seemed to be picking up rads much more slowly than that.
Your screen can also say more, like +2 or +3, and I was definitely picking up rads slower than that.

That place annoyed me greatly. I think I spent an hour trying to find all the dogtags before just throwing my hands up and slaughtering the NCR there for wasting my damn time >_<

Nope, I've been in zones where I have enough resistance to put me down to 1 but never under. the camp with the guy that wants you to check the police and firestations down in the south east. I can get the 15 rad zone down to 4. Was CHEWING through rad-away though. Holy crap.

Question: Anyone here using a console version of the game and, if so, why? I understand the modding argument and the fact that it's PC version is 10$ less and on Steam as being solid reasons to get the game on PC, but I feel like playing this on my PS3. Am I crazy?

You're fucking loco like a mofo.
The Thorn arena doesn't work for me. The animals rush each other and.... stare at one another bored. Trying to cap the one I want to lose causes the crowd to (understandably) jump my shit.

If you have a PC capable of running it, yes you are crazy

I can't speak for the PS3 version, but I've been playing it on 360 and having a blast.
....or I was, until I somehow "lost" the "key" to The Strip, making it completely impossible to get inside. Fucking great! I was just about to finish it too.

Console versions are fine, as long as you understand that a lot of the bugs in the game that are fixable with the command line can become game breaking and unfixable on consoles.
Theres also the mods that can add a lot of value to the game as long as you wade through the rivers of shit
