The great thing about a story based on the Old Testament is that you know it's got a good foundation to work with.

Not looking forward to the beget chapters.

Oh yeah, now I remember. Jim Darkmagic is a cool concept, it just wasn't near as interesting as the other two. Plus, they do dnd comics from time to time with those characters.

After reading those a couple months ago though I do kinda wish they spent two or three days doing something about his adventures.

I wish they'd put the D&D podcast comics in the "PA Presents" section; it's a hassle to go through the episodes on the WOTC site.

WOTC probably owns them or something though.

I'm not sure if I like the pace of this comic... one panel they hang them, then it's amost like a split-second later that the guy randomly yells that he won't die.

    It's spaztic.

Well in the first panel he tells the guy to dance in hell, and the middle panel is the guy doing a jig while hanging there to spite them. The timing works fine when you realize the complexity of his dance.

It's not like it takes long to hang a dude and realize he ain't dying.

They pull the lever and then he ain't dead. A proper hanging snaps your neck, you don't just hang there and choke like you might see in a movie.

yeah that "he's not dead" bubble would make more sense to the right, instead of cutting into the panel where he gets hanged

You know, I always wondered if you could survive a hanging by bending your knees and resting the weight on your neck so when the trapdoor went there would be no shift.

That's why hangmen (though maybe not in the old West) had tables to calculate rope length based on weight. Too short and it won't snap your neck and you'll choke for quite some time, too long and it'll tear your goddamned head off. And nobody wants to have to clean up that mess.

Yeah, the point of the noose and the gallows was that the force of dropping would snap your neck.

Slow suffocation was the consolation prize, and is quite a worse way to go.

Ah, see, when I learned that hanging worked by snapping your neck, I somehow assumed that it then didn't block your airway for some dumb reason.

Even if it didn't... the rope is pretty long to facilitate a long drop, so I doubt it would be possible to take up the slack effectively before the trap is opened.

And anyway, you're tied up and there are guys with guns standing there to make sure you don't do anything stupid. It's not like they're going to watch you doing some dumbass gimmick to try and save yourself and just say "whelp, guess we better let him go then."

On the subject of the actual comic, I like it! We don't get a lot of information in the first page, but it's a decent hook and it sure is nice-looking. Be interesting to see what the other concepts are.

Dunno if this is aimed at my post, but I wasn't referring to the comic, just pointing out that Willeth's cunning plan has something of a weak point. Beyond the physics of it, that is.

I was under the impression that it was just nice hangmen who arranged the rope to snap your neck instead of the other option.

Also seeing this one only makes me more excited for whatever else they have in store.

Well, I don't know. Plan A is not to do anything to get me hanged. Plan B is to not get caught, if I do. Plan C is to escape if I get caught. Plan D is to try and find some crazy technicality that gets me off if I can't escape.

Plan E is to haunt the executioner.

    This is fantastic

it's gonna take a lot to get me to vote for anything else

as much as I love side projects like this, it seems like a weird time of the year to do it, what with a new game dropping every other day practically. They're drowning in potential material and instead they're devoting the time to something completely different

not that I'm complaining because again, this is rad as fuck.

My main issue with the guest comics is they have both been awesome to begin with, then (IMO) ruined by the guest artists. That's me though, so I hope we get to see G&Ts versions of the final choices.

I hate to sound like a silly goose, but I kind of agree. Not that they were abominations or something, but there was a clear split in quality and I would rather have something like SAND hang out there in the open, perhaps to be picked up when G&T are tired of vidya gamez, instead of manhandled by some other set of people who would probably do a better job if they just made their own comic and left the Penny Arcade stuff to the Penny Arcade guys.

I think the idea is so that they can have a vacation at some point and run these things during the vacation after having made them ahead of time? Is that what happened before?
