Also, I'm happy to report that when playing with the Scene It controllers, the intro instructions are specific to them, and the answers on each question screen are arranged vertically in the same pattern as the buttons.

Dis shit right here belongs in the OP, because it's fantastic news.

Yeah the button controllers are perfect for this. I can't even imagine playing with the huge 360 controller, especially in a party setting. The only issue is it's hard to type out your name in the join screen. But you only ever need to do that once.

For you guys that want a refund, have you opened a support ticket? I can't imagine you not getting a refund if you explain yourselves calmly, clearly, and attach the screenshot linked in this thread. Steam support is generally pretty good. They'll own up if it's a mistake on your end. Getting a refund with a reason like "I don't like it" is going to get you the appropriate, canned response.

Apparently what they sent me was a French edition of Scene It!. Came complete with game, too. Dunno if the game will actually work, though.

I gotta say, this is probably the most disappointed I've ever been with a game. I loved the original YDKJ and have 1 through the Ride on my PC. Me and my buddies played the shit out of that game and good times were had by all. I was all ready to bring back those good times with the newest iteration, now with my PC hooked up to a big screen tv in front of my couch and a few gamepads to serve as buzzers. Being limited to 2-player local is beyond unacceptable and I'm glad I caught that before buying because I certainly will not unless it is patched in with those missing console features.

Feeling abandoned by a once favorite game series who supported it a decade ago when it was mainly a PC title sucks hardcore :(

You're right. There are two entries under "contestants" for me now. One is my gamertag and one is the name I created. Both have the exact same stats though.

And about the SceneIt controllers, this needs to go in the OP for others that might be frustrated like me during Jack Attacks. The big round buttons are not D Pads, they are simplified Left Analog Sticks, in that not only is there directional buttons, pressing straight down on it is a separate button. During a Jack Attack, you have to push directly in the center of the button. Hitting one of four directions will not actually register your buzz!

Wow. I do agree that the situation with the PC version sucks, but it's sort of unbecoming to get so melodramatic about it. Plenty of fans outside the US aren't even getting the game at all (I'm hoping my import copy is region free). Did you know the game has a big german following and there are a lot of people crushed at not getting their German version?

This isn't to belittle your particular predicament, but it's 2 instead of 4 players (traditionally on the PC it's been 3 players) and no online play. It's a bummer, and should have been communicated better, but relax. Let them know you're genuinely disappointed in them, put the pitchforks away.

Let's be rational for a minute:

The lack of online play is probably because consoles already have that online infrastructure, and so they'd probably have to go with some weird peer-to-peer thing with PCs if they didn't want to run servers (of course, I could be talking bullshit here since I don't know much about how it works). The demand is low enough that whoever is in charge of nixing that idea probably did. As for 2 players, it's not hard to see why that is, either. It used to be you would buzz in, but now in this latest version the clock ticks down and everyone gets a chance to answer, fastest answer wins the most money. That means each player needs access to a lot more keys, and gets very awkward with more than 2 hands on the keyboard.

Those problems aren't insurmounable, I realise they could have found better solutions (gamepad support, etc) but nobody's trying to screw you - someone made a judgement call or two which has turned out wrong.

Incidentally, I really do think this game is made for the couch - having people crowd around a keyboard was always less than ideal even when it was the only option, and I'm not surprised that they're making the console the focus now that it's a more viable platform. Let's just hope that they give better options to those sticking with PC next time around.

I think you misunderstand that a lot of the anger is because the Steam listing originally both said it was 4 player and had 4 player screenshots up. They've changed it now but people paid money for a product that was not as advertised and have every right to get up in arms and demand a refund.

They're not trying to screw us but we got screwed anyway. So we should rationalize it and not complain too much. Right.

And because some fans from other countries aren't getting the game, we should be glad about what we got? Is that what you're saying? I remember reading a forum post from some developer from Sumo (dudes who made that Sonic racing game I mentioned), on a thread people where people where complaining with the lack of online play, which basically boiled down to: The PC wasn't worth the time to make it a full version, you people are lucky to even get the game to begin with. Is that what you're suggesting? Because that's a bullshit stance.

I refuse to rationalize such contempt for their consumers, and they're not getting a single dime from me from any version of this game.

I dunno, I don't see anything wrong with that. In many cases it's probably true. Some guy at the company does the math and realizes they're not going to sell enough copies to make the expense worth it, but they go ahead and do the port anyway to try to give people what they want, and all they get is whining in return.

You are lucky to get it to begin with. Nobody has any requirement to release their game on any platform to your exact specifications.

You know, you're right, that really is unacceptable, and while mistakes can happen, it really is up to Valve to refund people who want to go that route. People should be getting refunds, I'll not argue with that, but the foot stomping attitute a lot of people have I'm pretty sure isn't helping.

Zxerol: Fine. I'm not going to try to stop you throwing your toys out the pram. If you think that not supporting a game which has a limited audience as it is is a good way of ensuring new, better versions of it come out in the future then that's your choice. I personally think that on the whole developers mean well, and if their game is supported and they hear their fans want these problems fixed, they'll hear that, if not this time round then next time. On the other hand, if you choose not to support the product, you stop being a customer, and your feedback is less valuable. I'm not saying buy something you feel isn't worth it, but from your comment it sounds like you could be buying a console version if you wanted, but you're up on your high horse about it.

Finally, I think I SAID in my post that I'm not saying "because some fans from other countries aren't getting the game, we should be glad about what we got," it was just a throwaway 'look on the bright side' comment. People get so up in arms about this shit and I was just saying 'ah, well, at least you don't live in Germany.' Of COURSE you have a right to be annoyed, but there's so much about this game that looks like they got it right that I think a better approach is to support it and be vocal about what you want from the PC version next time. If it was a disaster from start to finish then there'd be no question, but it clearly isn't.

But in this case, the PC version literally only has features stripped completely out of it, and in a way that it seems almost malicious as opposed to just appealing to their bottom line. Like, how could you not include 3 player local play on a game that has nearly a dozen versions before it that did? Do you think discluding such a feature would profit them in any manner when completely identical versions for consoles exist with 4 player?

Zxerol is being a bit overdramatic about it, but it's pretty screwed up that a game that I've played 6 iterations of over the past decade with 2 friends I can no longer play with my 2 friends any longer. Obviously the developers don't owe me anything, but I think I'm perfectly justified in feeling a bit bummed out about the choices they took.

I agree with that, there's not much reason that 3-player should be left out, but I still can't get angry about it. Obviously there are different extremes of underfunded/shoddy ports, and this one just isn't that bad. Memo to THQ copy editors: if you're going to copy/paste your manuals from PS360 versions to the Wii version, you might want to double-check to see if you accidentally left in any references to being able to play online. Which the Wii can do, by the way -- but that's more of an issue for your programming team.

There was no mention of DLC in the manual. Of course. So for the same price (the others are still $30, right?) we get less of a game.

I didn't notice any graphical/compression issues -- although as I mentioned, I'm still rocking a 15-year-old CRT, so I'm not the best to evaluate those kinds of things. It looked pretty much like the Giant Bomb video. Load times might have been a bit more noticeable, but only when saving.

Is this is what we've come to? That because the version I want to get (and most of the time the only one I could get) is subpar compared to the others, that I should feel fortunate that I have it to begin with? That expression that dissatisfaction is now tantamount to "whining?"

Is my specifications so strict that asking to be treated the same is just too much? Well okay then, fine. Let this melodramatic asshole brood and write a LiveJournal post about how much the world sucks so hard and how I hate everythiiiiiing.

(Is LJ still even a thing?)

Any comments on the Wii version specifically? I can't find much online. Is the audio or video extra-compressed, load times worse, anything like that? Or is the presentation basically identical to the 360 version? Any chance of DLC to SD card?

There was no mention of DLC in the manual. Of course. So for the same price (the others are still $30, right?) we get less of a game.

I didn't notice any graphical/compression issues -- although as I mentioned, I'm still rocking a 15-year-old CRT, so I'm not the best to evaluate those kinds of things. It looked pretty much like the Giant Bomb video. Load times might have been a bit more noticeable, but only when saving.

What is used to choose answers? The D-Pad? Do you hold the wiimotes sideways, like the old Nintendo controllers?

Basically, I'm curious how it works on the Wii, as that is one of the possible platforms I may purchase this on.

No. Buy it on the 360, your sig suggests you have on. There is really no reason to get this on the Wii unless that's all you have. It's not as inferior as the PC port, but it is inferior to the 360 version, wherein you can use these:

Also, no DLC on the Wii version. (or PC)

Unfortunately, I only have one 360 controller. I do have 4 controllers on the PS3 version. I probably would prefer it on the 360 (larger online community) but not having any additional controllers means I could only play one player at home, which isn't how this game is supposed to be played.

Hmmm...I might have to give this more thought.

Go with PS3 then. Save for the big button controllers, it's got everything the 360 version does.

It's totally worth it to track down the big button controllers for this. You can find a new copy for $25 anywhere you look, or you can grab the controllers used from ebay or amazon for like $10.
