I mean when it comes to filling out the tome of knowledge, I'm quite sure going back to lower level areas to get stuff you missed will be a given. With that in mind, I doubt you get ganked by a giant chicken the second you step into a newb zone. Then there's the fact that the lower tiered zones are mostly PvE anyways, with a small sliver of a PvP area.
They have to have something in place, considering the "world" RvR contributes victory points to the campaign it's set in. If high level players can just sit in a zone and dominate it, that would be incredibly stupid.
Maybe the chicken thing is only applied to the RvR part of the zone.
It is, they have specifically mentioned that high level characters can come down and assist with the public quests (and that having a big level 40 character could come in handy when a chaos giant appears). It is just the RvR zones in the lower tiers, I think its a shame and preferred the older idea (scaling your character down to fit the zone). Though if they combined the two (so you can enter and fight if attacked, but if you iniate an attack you get chickened) I wouldn't complain.
As a completely ravenous and bloodthirsty ganker, I am slightly put-off by the chicken news.
However.
This changes nothing. Now we just need armies of chickens to gank. I propose bi-weekly guild holidays where all we do is go to the lowbie zones and have a chicken run.

No, but it would raise the chance that they do, would it not?
High level = theoretically played the game a significant amount = experience at playing the game in all facets?
Sure, I've met my share of useless 70's in WoW, but they're in the minority. Most average players seem to at least have half a clue, and then you have the top 10% or so who excell no matter what level or class they're playing anyway.

somehow I think someone who has put hours upon hours into his character has a muuuuch higher understanding of how the game works than someone who has just created a character for the first time, and is fumbling through a new UI. unless maybe you always fumble through a game?
I totally agree that if you put the time and effort into you character then in theory you should be a better player, ever since i can remember though there has been power leveling and gold selling services for just about every mmo out there. Do not discount people's laziness. Since it will be a brand spanking new game one would hope the high levels that come about first would be skilled players.

Does this even fucking matter?
So someone who sucks at this game and had to pay someone else to even reach the highest level is getting his ass handed to him by a lowby, boohoohoo.
WoW is pretty bad in this regard since you can solo all the way from level 1 to level 60 (70 now) and avoid any kind of social interaction. Take a game like FFXI or EQ2, where you are forced to group to make any kind of progress and the retards get weened out pretty quickly.

Well, it weeds out the retards, but also sucks fun away.

Not really. In fact, not at all.
its just a matter of opinion. some people like it, some don't.

Heh, I know this varies by person of course. And playing with a good group certainly is more fun than soloing, finding a good group, especially when I want to play for 30 minutes, at midnight, and being completely unable to play without a group, makes me want to smash my computer.

It's never really been designed for that, but you can do that extremely well with BST or DRG/Mage and I think maybe PUP? But I'm not sure about the last, but I sure as hell get awesome exp with Galka DRG/BLU on Colibris and can log out right where I was exp'ing.
as long as mythic takes the "any char can solo" route of wow I will be happy. Fuck trying to level a cleric/healer in DAOC solo .....it's near impossible.

I agree, to each his own. But promoting groups or, at the very least, giving an advantage to people who want to group is never a bad thing. Promote the MMO part and all. Early FFXI was fucked in that regard, though.

Whats the difference between my level 40 Black Orc being toned down and my recently started level 10 Squig herder? Don't think I've seen one person yet who has been adamant they are just going to stick to one class.

There is no need to insinuate stupidity or otherwise insult people. The unfortunate fact is that, just because someone has put hours upon hours into his character he does not also become a better player. Furthermore, fumbling through a new U.I. is an example of bad game design - ideally, the U.I. is intuitive and easy to understand, yet deep enough to allow complex play. Another ideal is the concept that a max level player is also a good player, so I will surmise with the following:
In theory, a high level player is also a skilled, or experienced player (this is a punne, or play on words). In theory, Communism works... in theory.
Edit: In retrospect, the double Pratchett/Simpsons quote didn't work as well as it dead in my mind.
We have updated the Screenshots and Concept Art galleries with new Community Event exclusive screenshots. Additionally Kilrogg is editing video footage from the event and doing a great job as getting it up as fast as he can. I'm adding some guides, previews and other stuff for the Braile impared. Here's the compilation of links for The Waaagh event.
I love that the elves seem to have the creepy black eyes, and the environments are downright amazing. Also, check out the zealot armor in the concept art. Badass.

Right, and I think groups should have fairly small margin of benefit over soloing. There'd still be plenty of people grouping up because it's better, and more fun if you've got a good group, but for those that can't find a good group, they're not screwed.

There 3+ weeks to go on that. So right when school starts up again for me, excellent. . . . . ..
in 3 weeks I start school and learn to bake. I'm going to have to grind so many dinner rolls and they only sell for a couple copper.
I thought the dark elves would get the pet class, not high elves? oh well
I don't complain; I adapt. I still disagree with you, however - level has no direct correlation to 'player skill' (a fuzzy concept, to be sure).
