WoW is pretty bad in this regard since you can solo all the way from level 1 to level 60 (70 now) and avoid any kind of social interaction. Take a game like FFXI or EQ2, where you are forced to group to make any kind of progress and the retards get weened out pretty quickly.

Well, it weeds out the retards, but also sucks fun away.

Not really. In fact, not at all.

Heh, I know this varies by person of course. And playing with a good group certainly is more fun than soloing, finding a good group, especially when I want to play for 30 minutes, at midnight, and being completely unable to play without a group, makes me want to smash my computer.

It's never really been designed for that, but you can do that extremely well with BST or DRG/Mage and I think maybe PUP? But I'm not sure about the last, but I sure as hell get awesome exp with Galka DRG/BLU on Colibris and can log out right where I was exp'ing.

You're talking about a lot of stuff that happened years after the majority of us quit FFXI.

let's start playing it again Munkus. It'll be...interesting.

    No way, dude.

I am not picking up FFXI.

That... that's just crazy. Somewhat sad that some of that was just PvE, but it's still mind-boggling.

The size and scope if just crazy. The artists have captured the Empire architecture so well, it's amazing.

I can't wait to see the Temple of Change once the lighting engine is fully functional.

And all that Guild info was just fantastic. Basicaly sounds like DAoC + EQII + a bunch of other yummy goodness - bad stuff.
EQII being the only game I know of with Guild Levels, and they earn your guild stuff.

For all technical purposes I believe some of the areas will become PVP (RVR) when the opposing army pushes its way to the location. So Evil folk need to push across all the RVR areas before being able to launch the attack against Altdorf.

    Oh yeah, I understand that.
But Hickman said that the Castle of the Reiksmarshal was just PvE. So there won't be any RvR there. It's basically PvE Raid content. And probably something you're required to do, to advance the Campaign (maybe, making RvR depend on PvE could be a little odd).

I believe the same holds true for the Temple of Change. Only PvE there.

The City stuff will change back and forth from PvE to RvR, based on the Campaign, which is cool.

Well das is true. When I saw the Castle I was like "Holy fuck, amazing RVR area. Tanks could just line the halls and cause stalemates without some serious tactical work".

Where did it say RvR would depend on PvE to advance? I understand it as the end game raiding will be for PvE equipment sets and bragging rights.

I think the game is going to have that effect on a lot of people. WAR is going to offer something that blizzard cannot, and many a blizfan will be drawn in like a moth to a bright light. When the little moths get close enough we will throw down a fiery cage of death and destruction and cleanse the ranks of the unwilling so only those who devote their life to Tzeentch will stand and shout, our souls are yours to command.

    It doesn't, I'm just guessing.
It just seems to me that something like killing the Reiksmarshal is something Destruction would need to do to advance past the Reikland zone. I imagine killing him gives a chunk of VP at the very least. We do know that PvE objectives do provide VP. Just not enough to win a zone obviously.

It'll actually be intesting to see just how many VPs are obtainable by PvE. And if you keep them forever, or if the PvE place resets after a time. As I don't think the PvE Objectives are instanced.
So after you kill/capture the Reiksmarshal, how long does he stay dead/captured? And when he respawns, do you lose those VPs?
I think the game is going to have that effect on a lot of people. WAR is going to offer something that blizzard cannot, and many a blizfan will be drawn in like a moth to a bright light.

Oh yeah, there are so many people saying they're just playing WoW because "there's nothing else".
WAR looks like it could be that "something else" for a large number of people. Basically, anyone playing WoW's PvP will likely try out WAR for a month or so.
And from the looks of it, there's actually some decent PvE stuff too, so the PvE-orientated folks may stop by for a visit as well. Whether they'll stick around or not is debatable.

I can predict WAR having massive numbers for the first two months. If the game is everything they promise, those numbers will just grow.
I hope EA has some sort of "plan to buy" option for extra servers, if the numbers do get big.

Hopefully Mythic has been able to influence EA a bit so they have just that in place, X amount of servers to handle the massive flood. EA has never really seemed like a company that plans ahead for the customers benefit.

What will the classes be like?

That's the biggest thing for me, classes and class mechanics.

WoWs warrior class has always been my favorite in any MMO I've ever played. I just love being a melee fighter and I like the rage system.

Hell, in every game I play, I choose the melee fighters over casters.

There are rather extensive run downs on the classes at the main website for orcs, chaos, humans, and dwarfs. If you liked the warrior then you will most likely like where WAR is going with their classes.

I think you'll be able to find SOME melee fighter that fits you in this game.

WoW has what, 8 classes? War has 24.

Wow had what, 2 melee classes? War has at least 8 announced so far, and the elves are likely to have 2 more each for a total for 12 differently melee classes. If you can't find one you like well, I'd be amazed. Closest one to the WoW warrior sounds like the Orc Choppa or the Dwarf Hammerer.

I usually play melee classes too, but I think I'm gonna go gobblin shaman for this one, cause they actually managed to make a hybrid healing class that can't be forced to healbot.

Yeah, I was looking at the empire and the Knight looks similar, I'll read up on it more.

I've always had a 'thing' when it comes to MMO's. I'm not really a roleplayer, but I've always prefered a plate wearing human that does primary melee damage.

I always choose a fighter in Neverwinter Nights and other such games. Like I said, it's a 'thing'.

Edit: True about the 8 vs 24, but can you specialise the classes in WAR? It's true WoW has less classes, but a fury warriors plays a bit differently than a prot warrior.

I am not sure to what degree you can specialize your character in WAR, but I know there is some customization in terms of your secondary and special skills. I am not sure how different it makes your character though.

However, one thing that WAR has that is awesome is the tactics system. As you level up you get more and more tactics slots, and can equip tactics that do a variety of things and take up different numbers of slots. These do things like increase your healing by 20%, or other such things. This basically lets you change your "spec" on the fly. Playing with a group? Slap on some healing and group buff tactics, going solo, replace those with some damage and kiting tactics.

    Brilliant system really.

Edit: Wow, that video... WAR is HUGE!!!

    This has been changed.
If you read Garthilk's summary, you'll see that the concept of Primary, Seconday, Special and RvR abilities has been revamped.
Now, for instance, all Warrior Priests of the same Rank will have the same abilities. So there's no differentiating with abilities.

There will apparently be some differentiating with Tactics though. As you have a limited number of slots, and can customize as you want. You can also unlock additional slots.

    http://www.warhammeralliance.com/articles/showentry.php?e=60
There's Garthilk's summary thing. It is subject to change though. But it's current as of last week.

A bit of a let down, but definitely not enough to put me off of the game.

The 'living guild' system concepts that they are planning sound so damn hot. This is so freaking awesome. After about five minutes in he (Jeff 'The' Hickman) touches on some of the guild stuff and later on drops some more information about them. Boss kills not only get gear drops but guild exp, which is freaking sweet.

I'm just curious how guild alliances and boss kills will work. Like will they share the guild exp from that boss or will it just be like a flat 'your guild has killed X boss' tome of knowledge sort of unlock. Really too early to get any answers on those kind of questions but something I was thinking about.
