While on the topic, I've heard talk about it being relatively easy to port (obviously reworking a bit but you know what I mean) some of the indie games over to the Windows Phone 7 platform with the XNA tools, and was wondering if you guys had any plans to do so? I'm considered picking one up and playing BoD on the go would be fantastic

I thought that was closed off like Apple's App Store. At least, that's what it seemed like from early reviews of games for sale on Win 7 phones. It would be pretty great to have some those games on the go.

We're planning on porting both BoDVII & CSTW to the PC. Probably no phone ports (to be honest, I don't even own a smartphone so I don't know the first thing about good phone controls).
Do you know of another high traffic site that reviews indie games? I only ask since it seems IGN is pretty prominent in the XBIG space.
Anyway, the way it is now I see it more as dumping ground for Newground flash games to get a second shot.
... He says, in the same thread where the developer of BoD VII: TB and CSTW is posting, and not two pages away from the XBLIG "Fall of Awesome" or whatever list.
I mean, I don't even own an Xbox, and I know of at least half-a-dozen cool XBLIG's I would buy.
To be fair, I don't think BoD is all that great. I can see why others like it, but it's not for me.
I'll keep checking the XBIG channel (as I have for a while) for some cool stuff. I have to admit that it has gotten better about not being only avatar (sort of), zombies, and/or massage games.
XBLIG fucking rocks man, it has some of the best shooting and platforming action to be found anywhere right now, and most of the games only cost £0.60p.
I mean, there are over 1400 games now, so yeah, finding the good ones can initially seem daunting. But like has been said, there are the charts for top sold, top ranked, a thread on here, numerous review sites, videos on Youtube and free demos for everything.
There are a lot of Avatar games, but the zombies and (especially) massage thing is more of a meme than a reality.

From everything I've read it seems to be in the middle. Not nearly as open as Android, but not quite as closed off as iOS.

Yes. We already know what our next game is going to be, but it's far too early to publicly give out any details other than that it will be an RPG and is going to be awesome.

That's because there is no such thing
It certainly isn't just mapping a fake D-Pad and buttons like most game ports do.

And I call bull with this comment:
"One of the great benefits of the merger of Activision and Blizzard has been the elevation of patience. Partly because we have the financial resources to do it, but we're now in a place where we can really take the time to make sure we're going to deliver the best games - and that's an incredible luxury. You have to instil that value into the culture; Blizzard has that as a unique value of the culture and I think it's now been very well instilled across all of Activision Blizzard. Patience is rewarded. It's a vocal audience that's willing to tell you through that beta process what they think of the product, what needs to be done differently and now that the product is as much a service as it is an actual product, that period of time is invaluable to polishing, building and shaping the games to be extraordinary." - Activision CEO, Bobby Kotick

But do they? Philip Tetlock, a psychologist at the University of California, Berkeley, has spent 25 years trying to find out. He first got interested in the subject during the run-up to the 1984 presidential election, when dovish experts said Ronald Reagan's tough talk to the Soviets was needlessly antagonizing them, while hawkish experts were convinced that the Soviets needed to be aggressively contained. Mr. Tetlock began to monitor their predictions, and a few years later, he came to a sobering conclusion: Everyone was wrong. Both hawks and doves failed to anticipate the rise of Mikhail Gorbachev and glasnost, even if the pundits now claimed to have seen it coming all along.
The dismal performance of the experts inspired Mr. Tetlock to turn his case study into an epic experimental project. He picked 284 people who made their living "commenting or offering advice on political and economic trends," including journalists, foreign policy specialists, economists and intelligence analysts, and began asking them to make predictions. Over the next two decades, he peppered them with questions: Would George Bush be re-elected? Would apartheid in South Africa end peacefully? Would Quebec secede from Canada? Would the dot-com bubble burst? In each case, the pundits rated the probability of several possible outcomes. By the end of the study, Mr. Tetlock had quantified 82,361 predictions.
How did the experts do? When it came to predicting the likelihood of an outcome, the vast majority performed worse than random chance. In other words, they would have done better picking their answers blindly out of a hat. Liberals, moderates and conservatives were all equally ineffective. Although 96% of the subjects had post-graduate training, Mr. Tetlock found, the fancy degrees were mostly useless when it came to forecasting.
The main reason for the inaccuracy has to do with overconfidence. Because the experts were convinced that they were right, they tended to ignore all the evidence suggesting they were wrong. This is known as confirmation bias, and it leads people to hold all sorts of erroneous opinions. Famous experts were especially prone to overconfidence, which is why they tended to do the worst. Unfortunately, we are blind to this blind spot: Most of the experts in the study claimed that they were dispassionately analyzing the evidence. In reality, they were indulging in selective ignorance, as they explained away dissonant facts and contradictory data. The end result, Mr. Tetlock says, is that the pundits became "prisoners of their preconceptions." And their preconceptions were mostly worthless.

He's so patient he waited a full week to fire Bizarre.
It just occurred to me that there are more people awaiting execution on Death Row in the United States than there are people who bought Tony Hawk: Shred.
Maybe death row inmates were their target demographic, and it actually sold exceptionally well?
If thats the case then I just feel bad for them not being able to get ahold of a better game.
There are 4,429 Gamestop stores in the United States according to there 2009 annual report. There are actually more Gamestop stores than copies of Shred sold in October. Shaun White fares little better.
Speaking during an exclusive interview in issue 220 of Edge (which will reach UK newsagent stands tomorrow), Activision Blizzard CEO, Bobby Kotick, says that he doesn't think that Kinect and Move will spell the end for peripherals. Kotick reveals that the publisher will continue to produce them where appropriate and that it has new devices ready for next year.
"If the fantasy is to unleash your inner rock star, you need a guitar, or you need a mic, or a DJ booth," says Kotick. "Kinect and Move are superb for dance games - we don’t need to make a dance pad if you have Kinect. So as long as we think a peripheral is going to deliver something that’s compelling and interesting and innovative we’ll support it. For ten iterations of Tony Hawk, you weren’t really skateboarding, it was… thumbing.
"When we finally figured out how to build a skateboard - I think we probably could have done a better job on the first game, but I think we’ve nailed it on Shred - that experience, you just can’t duplicate it. To me, that’s moving the medium forward, and physical interfacing I think is a really important part of the future. So, yes, we’re going to keep making physical interface products if we think that’s going to enhance the experience - and we have some really cool ones for next year."

"The new IP 'Whores of Duty: Pole Hero' just wouldn't be the same without the portable stripper pole and runway physical interface which we think really enhances the experience" Kotick claims.
Edit: And yeah, there being more GameStops then Tony Hawk Shred's sold is devestating.
Amazon are being dicks about games to put on sale pre-Black Friday for the Wii. I guess they figure maybe they can trick some people into buying a copy.
But I also fear that its just going to be Sonic Adventure/Crazy Taxi/Space Channel 5 Pt 2/Sega Bass Fising on one disc. I already bought SA, so Im getting the rest via XBLA as well...
What I HOPE, is it's Jet Grind Radio/Shenmue/Chu Chu Rocket/Skies of Arcadia all on one disc.
Also the downfall of all of Sega's studios is such a shame. The 1st party stuff for the dreamcast was all just amazing...

He just can't help himself.
To be fair he was probably quoted on that before the horrible sales of Pig Hero/DJ Hero 2/Tony Hawk's Janky Peripheral came to light, but given everything else he's doing I wouldn't be shocked if he really does spew out more peripherals that don't sell next year.
Edit: And yeah, I wouldn't be shocked if it's just the already-available Dreamcast DLC pressed to disk.

Makes sense, they've already released a couple of camera games on the PSP.
So... Kotick wants people to really shoot brown people? Cause CoD's clearly not a first person shooter, it's a first person thumber.
I have to admit, if it weren't for people mentioning it here every so often I would forget that it even exists.
The new Tony Hawk sold abysmally? Awesome. The new Wii Party sold about as well as Wii Music? Even better.

But unless Hamonix gets bought out by someone with deep pockets and high optimism, it could be the last we'll see of these games.
Actually I'm almost surprised it did that much given the current state of the genre.

Ouch.
This makes me sad. Rock Band is like my dream game.
Joking aside, genre fatigue appears to be hitting a lot of genres. Meanwhile FPS and WRPG games are doing great.
That's better than I expected. Not good, but not a megabomb.
