Didn't some player make an LA account just so he could easily get to the top of the ladder and get a blizzcon invite?
Anyway, something I have been doing lately is just playing defensive macro and refusing to fucking end the game.
I'm really trying to work on my macro skills, I haven't laddered in like a week though, thanks to a massive work dump my classes just took on me.
No idea, it's probable since the latin guys that are actually really good at the game just got themselves a NA account instead. There are some really good players on LA though, I don't think it's that easy.
I've been really working on my macro as well, but I just keep getting overwhelmed.
Like this dude, he rushes Thor, and shows up at my base with 8 SCV's repairing it, I just can't kill it because how difficult it is to hit the fucking SCVs while his marines shoot as well, I get the Thor down to less than 25% health over 5 times, but SCVs just keep on coming and repair it fully in no time.
I know this means he has no economy, yet marines and marauders don't stop coming and if I try to rush his base he will just decimate mine instantly with marauders and that god damn Thor.
This is one of the things that swayed me away from playing Zerg. The Zerg early game is so fragile, and I feel like the units are quite limited in what they can do.
Now, give me a zealot, a sentry and a stalker, and you can live all day if you use them well.
His normal shows are better than the new flavours he's doing, and his coaching djwheat and jp were really good too. They are why I watch the show and it's what he built it upon, but funday monday is blaehaeh.

I forgot about the wheat episode, I have to watch that
Variable: I typically learn a few things from newbie tuesday, or at least reinforce things I knew but hadn't put a whole lot of thought into.
you're right, just yesterday was a 2v2 thing I didn't even watch
I think the fundays are getting to me but it's silly for me to say I don't learn from newbie tuesday or the other days.
edit - not that he isn't entitled to do whatever daily he wants
I did like funday a lot more when he did stuff that could potentially expose some interesting builds, like no queens, and the carrier before expand one. The terran one was sorta "do thor hellion banshee which I won't show, or play like a retard"

The theme days are funny, but newbie tuesday is annoying because it's all like...Bronze level mistakes.
I like friendsday wednesday a whole lot, actually. It's really helpful to not only watch pros and hear commentary on pros but also have the pros themselves say "this is what I wanted to do here and here's why."
These last few fundays have been not great though =/. Team games are dumb and FFA is dumber. Go back to weird 1v1 challenges!
Well, once again I've started trying to use carriers, void rays, mass immortals, and other stuff on the ladder and I'm losing game after game.
I think maybe I just need to quit playing this game; it's getting steadily less fun. There are so few strategies that seem to work; I feel like this might as well just be a game of skill. There's no room for strategy.
Can anyone recommend a really good genuine strategy game? Civ 5 turned out to be a huge disappointment. Is the Total War series still kicking?
Why don't you try switching to Terran or Zerg? Honestly, if you want strategic options, go Terran. You have a multitude of viable builds and units that really support strategic positioning. Just try anything that isn't MMM. I mean you complain about strategic options while playing the race that is generally considered to have the least number of viable builds or at least any other build is difficult to pull off. With the current state of the game, protoss just probably isn't for you.

I thought the team mono battles was a great concept but it was hindered by people submitting really shitty games and flooding him so the really good ones didn't get shown.
there's a reason this is called a real-time strategy game
the strategy is in your positioning and using your units; as day9 says, until you reach the top echelons you don't even need to bother with worrying about unit comp if your macro is good, you'll just walk over your opponents
Mhmm my macro's main problem is keeping my mineral count low. I've got 3-4 bases, tons of drones but 2000+ minerals and an army, but it could be a BIGGER ARMY!
Yeah I'm around and want to play one or two still.
E: I am online and added you, I'll be on NA not SEA though for reference. OPTUS hates SEA. Hopefully they spiky bullshit that has been happening during peak on NA for me is over.

the thing about doing something creative and kooky and expecting to win is that it can't be the whole extent of your plan. Mass voidrays can be a very powerful strategy, but just setting out with a plan that doesn't go beyond "I guess I get stargates and press V?" isn't going to win games against strong players.
However, a build that transitions to void rays at a wisely timed point in the game, while establishing a solid enough opening to get to that point, and enough income to make a threatening number of them, put into application in a game situation where they're actually useful (instead of seeing a mass of marines and vikings and deciding, "fuck it, I wanna make them anyway!") is perfectly possible.
Expecting the game to hand you wins regardless of what you do is unreasonable; it would be like deciding to use melee-only in a multiplayer FPS and then getting frustrated that other players respond by shooting you at range.
Regarding other strategy games, the options are underwhelming. They're still shitting out Total War games with progressively better and better graphics, but somehow worse and worse AI. If you want to watch huge armies go at it, you'll love them, but if you're in it for deep, challenging strategic gameplay, you need to look elsewhere. Civilization has more strategy in the classic sense of the concept, although, as you've noticed, Civ 5 has some major problems. If the unit stacking mechanics and occasional peculiarities don't bother you, you might enjoy Civ 4 a lot.

his girlfriend phones him up in the middle of the podcast and he talks to her while still on skype
iNcontrol: what're you calling for?
iNcontrol's gf: to tell you I love you
iNcontrol: oh. well thankyou very much. bye

IdrA dealt with the pylon ramp block better than anyone I can remember seeing so far
It keeps playing for a couple seconds, then stopping, then playing again, then stopping...
It seems to be the only player that does that too. Is this just me, or are others getting it?
Thanks, I'll give it a shot.
If not, I'll stick with the current plan of using download-them-all and watching them whenever.
admittedly I'm biased but as fun as funday and newbie tuesday can be I like to learn shit from the show
