Finding A Monitor of a Certain Height...

Qs23Qs23 Registered User regular
So I'm looking for a new monitor. Screen size 19 inches to 22 inches (Just did my 4:3 to 16:9/10 calculations). What I'm really looking for help with is the height. I've been looking around at monitors today and they seem shorter then they used to. my 22in monitor was 17in tall. Now, all the 22in monitors are barely breaking 15 inches. and I'm really hating have to stare down at my monitor. It's starting to put a crick in my neck. So I need something tall and the cheaper the better. I only spent $150 for my last one.

Just put a sturdy book/box/wood under it.

Probably be a hell of a lot easier

Buttcleft is pretty much right. Unfortunately, height-adjustable stands are increasingly rare, and propping up a cheap monitor is probably a lot cheaper/easier than trying to hunt down a monitor with a good stand. If you really want to get a height-adjustable monitor, try to find one that's compatible with VESA mounts and buy a stand separately (eg this).

It seems crazy that for an item that cost over $100, the only way I can get it to work is with a phone book.

But then the iPhone 4 needed a plastic case around it to work right?

I know what you mean, earlier models of the Samsung screens - even some models within a lower price range came with a adjustable stand. And don't get me started on the "finger-print-city" finish on the current models.
Some of the furniture / IT shop also offer stands for screens - which basically fullfill the same things as a thick book / box would - but which are also quite stylish an enable you to put stuff beneath your screen (documents, remotes, various other things).

Just get a stand from a local store.. they're not going to go as high anymore due to weight/cost and center-of-gravity requirements (they're so light now that if you put them up really high, they'd be EXTREMELY easy to tip over..)

Or build a stand out of spare wood. Just make a big |__| shape and flip it upside down when you're done.

Monoprice sells cheap height adjustable vesa mounts you can stick on the edge of a desk.

Monoprice has great prices for good stands and wall mounts. I second them.

I solved this problem by putting bricks under my desk.
