The thing about Madred's is that you really have to hit a champion a lot to do decent damage to them, and if they have magic resist it's effectiveness also drops... I tried this against another team tank + teleport + fortify last night. At first we were doing great, but at some point I (as trist) was really the only one that could damage them a whole bunch and it was really hard to get any one tank snared enough to do appreciable damage.

I think my final build was Madreds, Frozen Mallet, Black Cleaver, beginning of phantom dancer, and a vamp scepter.

You didn't make an Infinity Edge? Crits + AP hurt everyone a lot. IE + Madreds should shred any tank who comes close to you.

Frankly if your team is any good you shouldn't need a Frozen Mallet on Trist, at least not until you have all your damage items. She has great escapes and your tanks should be taking hits not you.

I see no Last Whisper in that list. LW is made for Trist.

So basically I had a choice. They were already stacking HP, and armor. So instead of going IE, I decided to go Black Cleaver to get through the armor and so that other people on the team could beat up them too. And I got the mallet more to keep people from running and for the slow than for any special need for health.

Edit: I can see going LW and have got it on her before, but at that point in the game I didn't have a BF sword yet and decided I needed the BF and the armor pen ASAP...

But LW is 40% armor pen. Does the cleaver add up to more?

If I'm remembering it correctly, it's LW for targets with >150 armor, Damage + flat armor pen for targets with less.

Trist is a ranged carry. A ranged carry with more range than any other ranged carry. You don't need another slow besides red buff. Your tanks or melee dps should have Randuin's or a Frozen Mallet. Trist needs to focus on doing as much damage as possible. Your damage was weak vs their tank heavy team because you took a very expensive health item that happens to have a slow on it.

You also have a slow when you jump on dudes. Jumping on a group of guys when one is almost dead then jumping out and wailing on the slowed dudes is super fun.

Drool, it would be stupid as shit to jump into a group of tanks all of whom have CCs as a ranged carry. Don't necessarily disagree with the rest, but at the end of the day I can't always be sure of having the red buff.

As far as cleaver vs whisper, cleaver let's everyone enjoy the debuff while LW is just my attacks (which in retrospect might have been better, but not what I was going for at the time)

*shrug* I still like LW personally anyway. It's generally the only attack speed item I get for Tristana and the speed can make a huge difference. Not just when activating her Q but more especially when that's on cooldown or she's out of mana.

Hey Spectrum. Hey! That Sona build you have posted is fun. Went 9/4/15 last night with her, and got every item except for the Infinity Edge (other team resigned when I was 200g away). I must say, early game plays the same "ho hum" support, and late game carry squishies expect you to just die when targeted, and not turn around and kill them. I had a blast with it.

I still think she shouldn't put out that type of damage, but fuck that. It was fun to surprise the hell out of the enemy team.

I play Sona a lot and people often underestimate her. Early game people try to kill me a lot, and I score easy kills. If you can manage her mana and use her Q in conjunction with her special shot every 3 spells, she can do quite a bit more than people think. Late game she is amazing at keeping the team alive and away. Celerity for escape, and the buffs she gives are great.

Teemo is a terrible character to pick in TT unless you have two sponges/tanks with hard cc, in which case any other champion in the game can fill that spot just as well / better.

This is crazy talk. I think Teemo is awesome on Twisted Treeline for two reasons:

    1. Because it's a smaller map and jungle control/awareness is paramount, mushrooms are a lot more powerful than they are on SR. It's relatively easy to have almost the whole map shroom-mined, which means a) you always know where everyone is, b) if you or your allies have to run they can usually get away or turn it around on the chaser, c) when enemies run they will often blow up.

    2. People tend to play melee characters more often on TT than SR, making Blind more powerful.

That's why I said jump in when a guy is almost dead. Like you kill him with your jump it imediately refreshes and you jump right back out. Granted this isn't always easy to do and there is a chance you will get CC'd in the second you are on the ground, but you shouldn't be jumping in at the beginning of the fight so most of the big CC should be blown already.

Had a couple feeders but our TF was doing awesome. I'm Janna, doin' okay, babysitting him like a pro (okay, well, a halfway decent not-liability).

We get into late game, and all he wants to do is sit at the base.

When teamfights start, he's so worried about his already-shiny KDA that he stays waaaay back and never attacks anybody but a tank.

We never push, never do anything but sit there and defend for a fuckin' half hour. It's like, if you don't want to risk anything and are resigned to losing. Just /surrender.

I would be pretty happy if Sona's Q did 10 less damage at rank 1 and gained 45 damage per rank instead of 50. Then let that test for a while and see how it goes.

Yep. I normally run something completely different, so Spectrum's build was a nice breather. I normally run a ho-hum support song spam build:

    Mana Manipulator
    Boots1
    Innervating Locket
    Situational Boots of X/Y/Z
Deathfire Grasp (at this point it's usually the end of the game)
    Archangel's Staff
    Zhonya's ring

It's just a "run around with a buddy/team and provide backup" build.

I made the mistake of going full-on MP+AP, since it was an in-house and I was just goofing off. :P

Mana seems almost pointless for her though since you recover her q cost if you last hit, and that's what I'm doing most of the early game anyway. I think I'd rather get the slow from Rylai's.

In team fights mana can be an issue when you're throwing out spells as fast as you can cast them. Blue buff is great for this, not to mention it is quite easy to get near max cooldown reduction with glyph, blue buff, and elixir. RoA or Banshees should provide you with plenty of mana.

Kai, just jump in a channel and ask people if they want to play. That said, a lot of us have a lot of games under our belts. If you queue with us, you will probably get people with a lot more experience that will destroy you. I suggest you come to us more to advice and just go through the semi-painful process of just taking your lumps and learning the game.

Still forums and players are a wealth of information and everyone is happy to give advice

Edit: I'm just saying this because people have come and raged because they got destroyed by people with 200+ games when they have like 20

So I just started playing this (played DoTA quite a bit a few years back).

I assume it's worth it just to buy the pack of all the champions? Are they stronger, or does it just give more flavor to the game?

If you like the game it's pretty worth it to get the champion bundles in my opinion. Best way to do it is get a physical copy of the game on ebay or amazon or something (just make sure it's the North American version!), because that's cheaper than buying direct from Riot. That'll give you you the first champ bundle + a bunch of Riot Points that you can put towards the second one.

Edit: The free champions rotate every week, so it's not about power it's about variety and choice. Unlocking a bunch of champs gives you more options and gives you the chance to get good with the ones you like.
