This alone makes energy weapons significantly better than any other means of combat.
I did a quick check of the safehouses I have access to:
NCR Ranger: Ranger armour, Ranger veteran armour, NCR heavy armour(the reclaimed T-45d), various decent guns. Lotso ammo
BoS: T-51b, T-45d(both faction-neutral), Tesla cannon, gatling laser, missile launcher, minigun, lotso ammo.
Maybe my game is from the future...but my companions already show up on my map and craftable items already go to the top of the list (although it's possible that second one is due to a mod).
...Or do they just mean they've fixed bugs for those things?
Also, I just beat the game with 40,000 caps. It'd be nice if I had something to spend them on or - even better - if I weren't so OCD about only buying things with bartered loot.

I don't think it's ocd, it's just the natural order of things. I'm the same way, but it's simply because there's nothing to buy. I finished at lvl 23 with about 35k in caps, but it was because I was using guns and selling all of my energy weapons/ammo. No point in stockpiling it, but it also means you have more caps than you know what to do with.

I recently started a new game and I'm playing with the HUD disabled. And I'm having a lot of fun. Having to use iron sights all the time, (If I was going energy weapons this wouldn't work too well..) not knowing exactly how much health I have in combat, not being able to know where enemies are before I could ever see them.. it's great. Feels so much more immersive. And it will make Boone's spotter perk pretty useful.
I also have 1 perception, charm and luck, just for more fun.

I don't know if I could manage this. Trying to pick through containers and such would seem like such a chore.

I'm actually not finding that aspect too difficult. I did download a little mod so that it still shows open/take/talk whenever I can do those. It is a little awkward taking items off desks but apart from that it's alright.

I just have to say, I freaking love the ambient sounds and music in this game.
I was somewhat disappointed with the ending 'quest.'
I picked the House route (primarily because 1. it's the first one the game sits you with; 2. you get negative Karma for killing him (although with testing you don't seem to get negative Karma for killing him if your rationale is "I do it for the NCR!")).
But the final battle was ridiculously easy. Probably because I was on friendly terms with the NCR (which only results in combat once you divert power...and then everybody's pretty much dead already). It was a whole lot of robot armies shooting missiles and lasers. And apparently I missed the Boomer's flying over a dropping bombs because the game told me to go inside.
I'm guessing if I didn't have 500 rounds for the All-American, 200 for This Machine and about 100 for my Anti-Materiel Rifle it may have been more difficult as well (really...things should be more expensive or ammo should be much harder to come by). The only thing remotely difficult was the Legate, but after multiple times of trying to goad him over my minefield and shoot him with This Machine, I had enough of Cass standing in front of me and just shot him 3 times with my AM rifle (this probably would have been easier to do without the AM rifle if ED-E weren't in the shop).
But the actual ending with the slides and voice overs is excellent. The wealth of variation is also awesome. It completely makes up for FO3's "here's 5 slides and, oh yeah, everything you did didn't really matter I guess."
So if I leave him in this awkward stasis where he is alive but not able to do anything, I don't take a hit to karma. If I kill him instead, I lose karma. Huh?
edit: I'm also amused that the most powerful gun I've found in this whole game so far is an M1-Garand, which is also one of the oldest guns.

Yeah it makes no sense.
Since you're consigning him to immortality stuck in a blank void.

I made a game! Hotline Maui. Requires mouse and keyboard.
doesn't screw you in the end, he sets you up for life in the 38 as his top man
I was happy that
by choosing Yes Man's route, you end up being House, and the lord overlord of the area, with everyone else's futures being exactly defined as you chose when you did their quests.
So who has this on PC and is running it at max settings? Hopefully on a card that I can get for $200 or less?
I bought a graphics card ($35 on sale) that doesn't cut it for FO3, so FONV is probably right out. Good news is it plays all my son's Lego games at Max, so I'll just put it in his computer.
Any of the $200 level cards should eat pretty much any game for breakfast. As long as you aren't running it like in 3D with 3 monitors and 16XMSAA

Yeah I'm running with a card that's over three years old and I have it on almost max settings. I could probably get more out of it if I knew anything about overclocking the thing. (9600GT)
I've sworn off this game untill the 360 patch comes out. Its an excuse for me to work on some other games. I can't wait to get back to becoming the Grim Reaper of Powder Gangers.
How the shit are you supposed to get to Vault 22? That whole area is swarming with Cazadores and my Sneak is too low to be useful. I hate those bastards.

Did they nerf the sniper rifles in the last update? I remember hearing something about JE. Sawyer thinking of doing that. The buffs to the energy weapons really surprised me.

Or any gun + Hollow point rounds.
Remember, Cazadores don't have armor so the x3 damage modifier on ammo really helps against them.

My understanding was that the wings specifically were unarmored?

Well people will complain but it's a necessary change. As it is, all you need to survive are ED-E's enhanced sensors and a suitable sniper rifle. It made the game far too easy.

They didn't nerf the crit rate though, which was really what made them ridiculous

Oh I absolutely agree don't get me wrong, I'm delighted they did that actually. The buffs to energy weapons are excellent, because energy weapons at the high end of the game has to be the most frustrating thing ever.

Explosives do not need to be buffed. Explosives have solved literally every problem I've ever had in Fallout: New Vegas if I've run into one.

What's the easiest way to get it? I think what's his name will give it to you, but you to do all these errands. The first one involves the Gun Runners, and you need to give the one guy some ridiculous amount of scrap metal, or pass some HARD speech checks.
