So we get stiff once in a while. So we have a little fun. What’s wrong with that? This is a free country, isn’t it? I can take my panda any place I want to. And if I wanna buy it a drink, that’s my business.

On the upside, this shows that the game is pretty popular.
On a side note: Dsthal said that he has a goal to have the entire game have voice overs by this time next year.

I'm sure the group that would do VOs would be totally diffrent from the rest of the game development. It would be akin to Gomez doing the Redo mission in between series episodes. They can do more than one thing at a time and craftable refits are also on the master schedule.
So I am seeing something I haven't seen since launch. A que. A long que at that. This is a mixed thing for me. Good because, que=lots of folks=game gets money and more stuff. Bad, because of well que. Think I will try late tonight and go play rift for a while.

I actually take it to mean they haven't bothered to fix this kind of stuff since Beta and launch. The game was plagued with this kind of stuff at the beginning. And it went away, and I have the feeling it was not because they actually fixed anything (because it comes back every single time).

VA versions of every ship would be so much nicer than the way things are now. Everyone's either got a nebbie, defiant, sovereign, galaxy refit, etc...
DEATH BY MIRANDA!
That's always been one of my major beefs with this game. I think the whole ship level mechanic is boring and forcefully narrows people to play specific ships, which I assume is for balance reasons.
I really think they should've done it so that each of the different ships have different max stats, different max crew, but left it up to you to decide how to partition available BO slots. That way, at VA, if the ship has 100 crew, you can have 5 BO stations. You can have at most 3 Commander level BO stations, 3 Lt. Comm stations, 3. Lt stations, 3 ensign stations. The 3 commander level BO stations have to be in different categories, so you can't have 3 commander tact stations on one ship.
For your ship of 100 crew, since you're a VA, you decide to make 2 commander Tact stations, 2 lt. comm engineering, 1 lt. comm science. You partition 70 crew into your tact stations, 20 into engineering, 10 into science. Because of this, your shields are lower than normal, you go slower than normal, you have the least allowed crew recovery rate and debuffing/buffing ability, but you have higher than average damage.
You still keep all the same skills you had before, but now it is based on crew assigned to each of the categories which affects the cool downs and effectiveness of the abilities.
Because honestly right now, I might pick a ship that has more crew, but that means honestly nothing to me as an engineering captain. Oh no, hull is low, crew is dying, engineering team III, hull back to 100%, shields back up, yadda yadda. Also if I'm an engineering captain, I want to be able to fly a cruiser, but have more tact options available to me, and with my way I could decide which BO stations I wanted on my ship. This makes retrofits irrelevant then, because ship stats would be affected by 1) base values for those ships, 2) equipment, and then 3) where you appropriate your crew. It shouldn't be that much more difficult to balance, and I bet if you implemented this now, you'd see a much higher variety of ships being flown at end game.
So I guess due to our wonderful weather, I won't be getting my wireless internet till the end of this coming week. I thought I could have played around with the character editor at least, but Cryptics patching system chokes on high latency connections for some reason I don't understand and there isn't any alternative way to patch.
Anyway, I figured I'd better watch some Trek before joining up just so I'm not all like "Lock S-Foils in attack position" in the guild chat. So I had my DVR record Enterprise. Something must be wrong with me because it seems quite decent so far. The complete lack of holodeck episodes is the main attraction, of course. If I'm watching an inordinate amount of time travel, which season am I probably recording?

The whole series had a layer of temporal mechanics built into it since technically they were in a "temporal cold war". But you're probably season 3 or 4.
The scorpion fighters aren't QUITE as bad as they could be - it's 20 charges, not just a single use...
Still, that's not a whole lot of use before you have to go back and run through the mission again, and at least until the shuttle bay system is implemented, running it again is pretty inconvenient.
I still think I'm going to keep my two field modulators 99% of the time.

FUCK that Mogai escort and FUCK its tractor beam mines.
Is that a new power for Reman Mogais in general or just a special fuck you to anyone who put a dual bank on their runabout instead of the 360 array?

I was using the Type-8, so
I got murdered reeeeal quick by that escort
Also apparently it's not supposed to follow you through that door? Because it totally did and destroyed me halfway down that hallway.
Admittedly, it's not like the runabout is expensive, I really should have bought that instead, but what with the escort following me through I don't know that it would have mattered.
Fortunately, the quest broke and skipped me to the next section where you have to go meet the reinforcements
I noticed today that they nerfed the cost of the runabout down to 30k and change, which I think is a bit dumb, since the type-8 costs over 20k from the same vendors, the 128k price tag never seemed unfair for the Danube.
I was complaining in the channel about that escort and apparently if you follow close enough to the walls it won't engage.

I actually liked Enterprise. I believe I'm in the minority, but I liked it more than Voyager which I felt didn't really live up to its first few episodes. It essentially was just more TNG in another quadrant which really didn't bother them that much... oh look there's the whole Borg home system and a fleet of ships. lah dee da.
Heh, I went in pretty much reverse chronological order (of release, anyway): ENT, VOY, DS9, TNG. Mostly the last two, but bits and pieces here and there depending on what was being shown on TNN/Spike.
Just played the new feature episode. (Spoilered for spoilers. Derp derp.)
I think it's because of the scale of the place, but man, the shuttle felt slllllllllllllllloooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwww as hell.
I do like that they're getting voice actors to read stuff, though - actually sat through the bits with the Reman Commander instead of just clicking a dialogue option when I finished reading.
Speaking of which, I liked that whole dialogue bit too. Made it feel like a scene from the show.
(Although a dinky little shuttle being able to take out a Bird of Prey felt off to me.)
End battle was... different, thanks to the whole nebula static effect. I'm not sure if it was because of my difficulty being on Advanced or if it plays out that way regardless, but both the ships were at even standings when I was finished taking out the shuttles. Made it seem more epic with all the battle damage.

Heads up fro those who haven't tried using the fighter reward. It has twenty uses. It's not one use.
well thats better, I wish they were federation fighters (peregrine class i think they're called) rather than Romulan ones. I think they might be being put in anyway though as an alternative to shuttles.
Also giving fed players fighters as a reward is probaly just adding fuel to the whole Fed Carrier idea.
Edit: Im thinking of doing a new character (an engineer instead of tact), do you guys reckon its better to just do it, or wait a bit until more missions get updated with the new class specific actions. If i do a new class im going to run the vault a whole bunch of times so my cruiser can just be constantly popping out fighters all the time
edit edit: Decided to make my engineer and just cant think of a theme for my ship and BO names. My Original tactical officer is Commander Shepherd with all the crew as Mass Effect characters. Now for my new one im thinking of a Joined Trill female called Liara T'soni with her crew all being the Mass Effect people ive not used.
Or using the names of the people from the star wars Wraith Squadron books
Got my Vulcan tactical officer to VA tonight. I'm fairly happy with his setup, each of his antiproton DHC deal over 1k DPS.
Now I just need to get my Borg Engineer to VA (at LtCmdr so a while) and I'll have all classes at VA on the Fed side. I wish I could trade the 8 hour skill boosts since I had two, one now (no idea how I got 2 since I didn't buy one maybe the fountain but I thought it only had 1 hour ones) on my Vulcan and one on my science officer that are just sitting there until they raise the level cap.
Edit: And I saved the best name for my Defiant-R. Sticking with my pirate them: William Death.

I'm right in the middle of the Romulan arc and I can confirm that all the Mogais now have tractor beam mines.

they also chain fire 3-4 heavy plasma torpedoes now as well. very, very nasty. thank goodness fire at will takes care of all of these.
I hope we get a new 5 person chain out of all of this for some new set equipment. seems like anyone could have outfitted themselves with XI equipment ages ago which means what is there for end game loot these days except silly cosmetic stuff
So I got my new internets a bit earlier than I was expecting.
Made a Science Officer named Agota'Ed, finished the tutorial and signed up so Dark Mecha should get his free tribble or whatever. I'll try and join the Fleet, figure out how to actually play, etc. after I get some work done around here.

Someone's seriously trolled everyone by leaving one shit item in most of the instance fountains. No one wants a white tribble or an MK1 item, so they sit there, unclaimed, for hours.

One instance has a white tribble, another a green MK1 shield, another still some shit food and an MK2 rifle. I got two T1 tribbles and an MK2 blue kit earlier (of course that's not what was shown in the preview).
Once everybody figured out how the fountain works, it became pretty futile to try to farm anything good. I'm glad I got my pets the first two days, I haven't managed anything better than critical components since.
If you're after purples, throwaway klink alts still work well. I've saved a nice stock of party poppers, too. They're not bound, so going to give a shot at selling them for a few million over the summer. Worst case scenario, all my bridge officers randomly stop fighting to spray tribbles at the enemy.
So I haven't played since launch and I've had the urge to come back and diddle around in the near future. The major question I have is...... Do away missions/ground combat still blow?
It's still not as good as space, but bridge officer behavior (and especially pathfinding) have been massively improved. They also just nerfed the worst healing NPCs in the game. Romulans are still nasty to fight, but it's because they have some crazy damage attacks like thalaron generators, not because a commander level centurion medic can heal through the damage output of five vice admirals until somebody gets an exploit crit.
There's also ways to make it pretty much painless. To copy the old setup I've posted a dozen times, once your medic is taken care of (whether that's you or a science officer with four heals), fill your away team with engineers trained with phaser turret 1, 2, and either phaser turret 3, support drone, or quantum mortar. I prefer PT3, but the other two you can train from personnel in ESD without needing an engineering captain to cross train your officers. For the ensign power, you can go with weapon malfunction, shield recharge, or chroniton mines as you prefer.
With that setup, I breeze through ground missions faster than space in general. And you really don't need to be that involved - very little in terms of bridge officers can match the damage output of an engineer with three turrets.
Note: The foundry missions they ported over to the live server from Tribble seem to have generally worse BO path finding than the rest of the game. Whether it's a foundry issue or a map design problem I don't know.
Edit: The full ground overhaul is the "next big thing" for season 4 apparently. That's not for a while, but if they get things right there, I'm going to predict that shuttle missions are the new ground mission, unless they sneak the shuttlebay system in during season 3.
That seems marginally better, although I'm still worried that spamming melee attack to get the attack of opportunity and using a Split Beam rifle to instantly destroy a group of foes is still the only way to go.
Eh, aside from borg heavy/elite tactical drones, I never use melee. It's a bit better to stack your bridge officers with low-cooldown AOE expose weapons like dual pistols or the Breen CRM-100 since it's primary attack has an expose.
As a tac captain I have it a bit easier, I get my own AOE expose ability with a short cooldown. But with a turret team, you really don't need to worry much about big exploit damage. The team's damage output is pretty huge as it is. Even when I go afk and just let my officers handle things, most fights take about a minute at the outside, unless it's Borg (nothing gets through a heavy tac drone's shields quickly) or Cardassian (they just can't deal with those holographic guys without some handholding).
after seeing Hevach talk about his set-up before I copied it and agree totally with him. with 3 engineers with 2 turrets and a support drone each, a Tactical captain calling in security escorts (4 more people) and a healer to keep everyone alive, you put out an insane amount of damage. you get 17 phaser shooting every couple of seconds. It gets to the point that you don't even need to use the secondary attack (except only elite enemies like heavy tactical drones) because any enemy gets shot by so many people they just drop quick as heck
Yeah, when things get rolling, I use my secondaries on cooldown just for the spike damage. It gets hard to land an exploit - by the time I hit target optics and fire, the exposed target is dead anyway.
You have me sold to try your strat when I get back into the game. I always felt a lot of joy out in space, then only to be bitch slapped when I landed.

Aw. That sucks. 10 minute cool down would have been more that appropriate.
