Finally got the internet working and managed to subsume myself into the bliss that is Blops.
This... it blows MW2 so far out of the water that it's not even funny. In every single way.
Some of the pleasant surprises I found (all multiplayer):
-YOU CAN TURN AUTO-AIM OFF HOLY SHIT THANK GOD YES OH GOD
-The challenges are fantastic. I really love how many different gradients they have, and HOLY SHIT YOU CAN SORT CHALLENGES WHEN LOOKING AT THEM. Also, Demo-only challenges. Fuck yes.
-Really, so many challenges for everything you can imagine.
-The maps are downright sexy. Even if I do get Hanoi way too often, it's still incredible - I have yet to find a map I hate.
Also, a question - I'm not able to view any of my matches in theatre mode or file share anything - it just tells me to play more games when I try to view. Anyone know what's up with that?
Did anyone only receive 100 bonus points for pre-ordering Black Ops on Amazon? The bonus for pre-ordering it was listed as 200 points (equal to 20 USD), and the e-mail confirming the order has been shipped even says as much.
"Congratulations. Your purchase has qualified you for 200 Pre-order Bonus Points. Your promotional credit will be added directly to your Amazon.com account after your qualifying item ships once processing is complete."
But then I received this e-mail this morning:
"Thank you for purchasing 'Call of Duty: Black Ops' from Amazon.com. It is our pleasure to let you know that you have earned 100 Pre-order Bonus Points."
Huh?
Edit: I just added a game to my cart to see if it really was only 10 dollars, but it gave me the full 20 in promotional credit. Yay!

I wasn't going to buy this but there's so much hype it's making me consider rejiggering my money for the next 2 weeks to accomodate this.

Based on the abysmal deliveries I've been getting from Gamefly, my copy should be somewhere near... oh, I'll guess Philadelphia. Cuz, you know, going across Pennsylvania in a day is hard for the post office.
Damn, I'm getting hyped NOW because of people saying it's better than MW2. And I loved me some MW2, problems and all.
I hope the patch for pc multiplayer doesn't take too long.
Hm, I think it's a lag thing. Combat training appears to play just fine. Also, the engine is apparently a significant upgrade over MW2's as well. I was able to play that game at my native resolution (1680) with no AA and full-on texture details. Not so here; had to bump the textures down to "high" from "extra," no AA, and what I assume amounts to 4 or 8 AF.
But once I did that, the combat training stuff flowed like I expected. Before I left for work today I kicked off a driver update too, so we'll see if that helps (there hasn't been a release for nvidia cards since July, and then one dropped last month).
As expected, though, wager games, past the 10 CP buy-in, can get a bit.. campy.
They're just so FABBBBULOUUSSSSSS!!!!!

I can't tell if I hate the skorpion or not. Further testing required.
Dual Skorpions, dual M1911s, tomahawk.
DO IT. It's goddamn satisfying.

The state of the PC game is overall pretty abysmal if messageboards all over the web are to be believed. I had some stuttering and second long freezing last night, so I tend to agree with them. So part of the fun of experiencing BLOPS will be to tweak the thing, like a meta-minigame. The mp_config file looks very juicy in the variables department, and it will go perfectly with a cup of tea tonight, just before bedtime.
A patch might do the work for us. But I'm not going to hold my breath.

Hmm. I don't know what to do. I said I was going to focus on Reach, but I haven't played Reach much lately and I'm interested. But to be honest I was never the biggest fan of Treyarch CODs.
Also, a question - I'm not able to view any of my matches in theatre mode or file share anything - it just tells me to play more games when I try to view. Anyone know what's up with that?
Yeah, I am having the same thing. The game just doesn't seem to be recording any of my recent games either. Also when I go to the popular section ( or however it is worded ) there are no clips, screens or anything up to view, despite the ticker saying a couple of thousand videos have been rendered thus far.
On second though that seems low so maybe it's a widespread problem. I'm a bit bummed about it because I had the best Domination match. RC-XD's aplenty and many a dive into prone kill.
Also, dive into prone? The best thing ever. I jumped through a doorway and killed 2 guys who were camping inside.

That's probably because they were always god awful and a step behind experience-wise IW. Treyarch could have loaded pressurized dogshit in the game case that would splatter us over when we first opened it and it would have offered an arguably better product than IW's last offering.
The fact that they (based on community reaction I got from last night... Still hate you nocren and willeth) seem to have just cut out all the shit and developed on the good ideas shows that they care about giving us a quality product.

Look, honestly it's a combination of two things: For every one very tech-savvy, bleeding-edge PC enthusiast who can push their computer to 4Ghz on air, you have 15 or 16 people with a two-year old Dell with similar expectations of performance.
I'm no different; my PC is on the cusp of a two-year old anniversary; I can't expect to play new titles maxed out on a 24" monitor any more. While MW2 was playable at max settings, this one isn't. People just have to accept that, and turn down the fidelity or perform an upgrade. Or God forbid they upgrade their drivers before they try and play before they go abloobloobloo over the internet.
The only performance issues I've seen so far on the PC were lag.

Well, I'm no PC idiot. And I'm having the same performance issues on low detail that I am at higher levels. I mean, the MAIN MENU has stutter issues for god's sake.,
Hope there's a patch soon.

So, I've been silently following the blops bus to hypeville. UPS is out for delivery at the moment, but when it gets here, I'd like to shoot some mans with you folks.
Also, Informations:
DenKirson has a weapons damage chart up here. It's missing stuff like what some perks and attachments do, at the moment, though.
And a youtube vid that shows the iron sights of all the guns in blops. Likely pointless, but I was looking for something like it for a while. Of note, the FAL's sights aren't a poke in the eye anymore! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9iLb7s3Rnmk&translated=1

Also, I did SP on Hardened... I'm in mission 3, or 4, or 2, and I kind of regret it. Jesus.
EDIT: To be fair I've been drunk for like 4 hours.
Holy shit it's 5 AM. Peace!
Got some MP in too, already the mass spending has begun. I'm quite liking the Jammer and the Enfield so far.
And Mercy, that was the least fun you've been drunk.
