If you have a pyro who is dead set on reflecting at mid range, just bust out the shotty for a blast or two then switch back and blast him with a rocket.

I dread the soldier shotty, that's usually my cue to retreat and throw a couple flares out.

I submit that arrow reflects are more satisfying.

no but see, that's what makes closing in for the kill without firing so fun. they usually freak and try to make a break for it, because they are just so keen on reflecting.

Also, I have the defence banner thing, so no shotty for me

They're both equally as good, and I switch between them depending on how I feel like playing. Since I'm running with a degreaser + powerjack, lately, I don't feel required to bring the shotty for anti-pyro purposes since I have an all-purpose puff and sting (that I'm still practicing :P).

Yeah I switched back to the axetinguisher and the flare gun does have it's uses, I just feel that the shotty has more flexability.

Shotty is NEEDED vs some classes; flare is more use at range and pyro doesn't really need to be doing range.

Do the little dance, get in close, watch them freak out and try to run away and then BOOM! I laugh all the way to the next thing, while their bits rain down behind me.

The fact that Pyros freak out and try to run away when an opponent gets close means something is dreadfully wrong.

I usually just airblast them away, whip out the shotgun and pelt them a couple times.

That's the point. It's not pyro's job to kill them.

Flare gun is also good for shaming soldiers who didn't have quite enough health when they rocket jumped.

Though, the bow is way better for that.

Generally speaking, isn't it the job of anyone to kill anyone? My eyebrow is raised SO HIGH right now.

No. Area control is a much better use of the pyro's time. If you want to kill guys and help your team at the same time, pick a different class.

If you want to just run around and kill guys for fun, the pyro can do that. But if you want to talk about the pyro's "job"...

Pyro's job is to burn people and then take names, if you're able to read the scorched remains of their name tags.

The most satisfying thing you can do as a pyro is push an engineer into his own sentry gun's rocket barrage.
