If it was entirely financed by SONY, then there would be no 360 version. It may have been true in 2004, but it is no longer the case now.
There's probably some truth to that, but I'd hasten to add that I'm sure Sony wasn't investing simply so they could have a platform exclusive title. LA Noire will bring in money, but the real intellectual property worth holding is the facial motion capture software. Owning that technology isn't only useful for making more games, it's also the key for Sony Pictures to start churning out more movies like Avatar.
My stupid lack of money thanks to my Infamous 2 pre-order
I hope, hope and pray that I get a bonus on Friday. Supposed to get one at some point in May and I really really need to play this.
Leaning toward the PS3 version right now because of one disc and that being all they've shown off, though if the 360 version is somehow more impressive I'm open to switching.
EDIT: And shit, apparently PSN is coming back tonight, so I'm not really fretting over that DLC (if I can even get any; I'm not pre-ordering but I'm hoping all the cases from retailers are made available a little bit down the road).
I'm watching the first 15 minutes from the Xbox 360 version now, a nice 1080p video, and I can't tell much difference between the PS3 footage I've seen and this one. I've seen some pop-in, such as buildings and their lights and other various objects and people taking time to load in as the player is driving around, but that may be present in the PS3 version, too. Textures seem just as good, however, and I haven't noticed any bothersome aliasing that sometimes plague the 360 ports of PS3 games.

There are a couple of comparison screenshots floating around that make it look like the 360 version has higher resolution textures and better lighting.

Right here, but it could be a false alarm. Turns out the 360 shots are being compared to PS3 footage from really early trailers.
Edit: Well, not really early trailers. I dunno, I'm not an Xbox fanboy! I'm just talking about things to pass the time until the game is out :P
[EDIT] Also, the "PS3" screenshot doesn't even have glass in the left-side window there. Not a finished version of the game, I'd wager.
I figured the glass had been shot out -- it looks like there's still a shard left in the bottom right of the windowframe. Either way, I wouldn't make a judgement based on those shots.
I can't imagine the 360 version will have vastly better textures and lighting, since it was ported from the PS3 to the 360. Those aspects will more than likely look fairly similar. If there are any differences, they will probably be in the areas of framerate, pop-in and aliasing.
There was another image I came across, but I'm also calling bullshit.
Does it honestly matter whether the PS3 or XBOX version looks minutely better than the other? Are people going to notice that when wrapped up in the story and narrative?
Or perhaps the quality of the graphics in this game is of utmost importance. I wouldn't wish to be stuck on a case because my system of choice would not allow me to see the day old stubble on a suspects face, a sure sign of a night of intense murdering!
Can't wait 'til people start getting playing the game and get caught up in that rather than this weird rabbit hole this thread has fallen into right now.
I just saw the Best Buy ad. It appears the first sixteen people who buy the game at a midnight launch will get a free code for the first DLC case*, 'Nicholson Electoplating Arson Case'. Also you get a $10 gift card.
TrU offers a $15 gift card. Target appears to be offering a T-shirt.
Since they didn't say what the Rockstar Pass was, it looks like I'll be going to a store to buy it. I may even try to get in on that midnight launch thing at Best Buy.
Is there any point to buying this when it will have the least replayability of any game ever made?
/facepalm
You can replay cases to get 5-stars on them. I suppose the argument could be made that once you've solved a case "twice" you should be done with it; but not so. I've played a case three times and still managed to have the wrong idea about a witness and lose out on my 5th star.
Nevermind that cases can, and should, be solved in multiple ways:
Your last case as a beat cop is the first example of this - you can wrap the case up without ever having talked to a certain witness, however your interrogation of the subject wont go so well because you lack certain evidence you would have gotten.
tltr - Theres replayability here. Not as much as other games, but for a game like this that it has any is saying something.
Think about it. Once you've interrogated the suspects and solved the riddles where is the replayability? Once you know what they know the cat's out the bag.
I guess. Though it wasn't quite my first response.
Point is, the answer to questions like that, even if they're meant earnestly, is 'because you want to'. We all watch movies and TV shows repeatedly. Why would anybody do that? Because you want to.
It's the second worst thing about gaming. Right after Console Warz.
Anyway, my local Best Buy is doing the midnight thing. So that's where I'll be Monday night. It'll be my first midnight launch participation (I normally don't care about getting games 'first', but the free DLC code is too good an opportunity to pass up) so I expect to come home totally disappointed. But the $10 gift card will have a good use.

But dude...the games I like are better than the games you like because I am awesome and you are the suxors.
Think about it. Once you've interrogated the suspects and solved the riddles where is the replayability? Once you know what they know the cat's out the bag.
Think about it. People like returning to worlds and environments that are well crafted. It's why people re-watch movies and TV shows. It's why they re-read books.
Plenty of things we enjoy have a predetermined outcome the second time around. And we still enjoy them the second time around. If you want to talk about how you think it's so futile to want to replay a game with a known outcome, then start a D&D thread or something.
I guess. Though it wasn't quite my first response.

So we've gone from one stupid discussion (graphics), to another stupid discussion (replayability). Fair enough...

Not to mention, honestly speaking.
There are very few games I replay back to back. Usually the way I go is I play a game, then I come back maybe 1 or 2 years later and play again. Even then that's iffy since I usually buy new games back then.
Heck, I think the last games I have played back to back in the last years that didn't have MP was Mass Effect 1/2.
Think about it. Once you've interrogated the suspects and solved the riddles where is the replayability? Once you know what they know the cat's out the bag.
The cat may be out of the bag, but how you determine that can change. The way the save system is set up here, if you at all care about the game and the environment, you're going to replay it.

The difference there probably has to do with recording and/or TV settings.
Compressed internet video doesn't look at good as screenshots directly from source material.
