Notes:
- If you buy the Boston City Pass, you can get into the Harvard/Peabody Museums, Aquarium, and Museum of Science for $46 instead of $52. (Can be bought online or at any of the places included in the pass.)
- I STRONGLY suggest buying a weekly pass for the T. It will let you travel anywhere on the T, as much as you want, for a week, for $15. I estimate that without this pass, these 2 days will cost $21-$26 in travel. These can be bought at T stations. One of the things I plan to do at the morning meetups is make sure people have their Charlie Cards and help people get them if they don't.
- On Wednesday, the tour usually breaks off for the night around 5pm. This time you have the option of continuing on with us until 8:30pm! There is a restaurant near MIT called Miracle of Science. It has been brought up in the Epic Noms thread for it's notable geekiness (menu is a periodic table). I thought it would be a spot some of you would like to hit for dinner. And then we have the (free!) astronomy night at BU.

For those of us whom 7am is too early to be ready by, can we just meet you at the first destination?
Absolutely! All Thursday's meals are meetups put together by other people (and the breakfast seems to be sort of in limbo right now). We'll be officially meeting up at The Common at 8:30, breakfast or no. I'll edit the schedule to reflect that. Sorry about the confusion.
And since we're using public transit for all our travels, it's pretty easy for anyone to drop in and out at any time.
Edit: I'm staying at the Renaissance, so you can walk/ride over with me if you want!
This sounds perfect for me . I'd like to sign up if there is still room.
I'm a bit of a newb to the PAX East experience, and I would just like to ask a few questions:
If I just reply to the Forum Badge post, will I be accounted for receiving a badge when we meet up?
I do not have any Photoshop skills, and I really don't know what to put down other than some personal info. Is it OK if I just bring some self made business cards?
When I was looking at the Sam Adams site, I noticed that on the brewery tour page that on the day you have posted, they are beginning tours at 12 pm, not 10 am. Would we just be going there to take a look at the place, or is there other stuff to do there besides the tour?
I am from out of state, and I noticed that some bars ask for two forms of ID. What would be an acceptable second ID for me to bring along, other than my driver's license?
Hello Smartest Man! Love to have you on the tour, but we might have to quiz you to see if you deserve that title :P
1. You only need to show up to get a forum badge. As long as I have enough with me, everyone gets one. However, if you want your name on the back, reply to the forum badge thread. I've already sent off the list of people who I knew were going on the MMT, but Kropotkin will also take names of people who reply in that thread. Just do it soon because I believe he's sending them to the printer this weekend.
2. Are you referring to the trading cards? There are plenty of people who are willing to help make trading cards (Rdr and itzerkewl come to mind). You can definitely jump into that thread and ask for some help. If you prefer to hand out business cards, you can do that.
3. Are you looking at the holidays and early closings section? They start at noon on February 9th, but I don't see anything mentioned about March 9th.
4. I've only heard of overseas people needing extra ID. In which case, a passport is the obvious and preferred answer.
I will only be able to make Thursday the whole day, as I will be arriving in Boston midday.
BUT!!! I may be able to make the Museum of Science trip. Perhaps if some kind soul who will definitely be there lend me a cell phone number, so that I may join the Mystery Tour mid-tour wednesday.
When I was typesetting the schedule into the TC I had a few bummer "awwwww" moments. We get in at eleven AM on Thursday so will, sadly, miss the MMT mostly as we'll be hoping to go to the aquarium after landing. This is only our second PAX East (never been to Prime), and it's been fun getting really into the community portion of it. We are managing to hit up the PrePAX dinner, though. I'll look for this next year! ;-)

1. OK, that clears that up for me.
2. All right.
3. You are right, I read the date incorrectly. (There's a reason there's a question mark at the end of my screen name =P.)
4. I'm from the states, so I guess I'm in the clear.

Suggestion #1: Follow along on Twitter (@PAX_MMT). I'll be posting updates as we go, so you'll be able to see where we are.
Item #2: I'll be asking for contact info from everyone and giving out my phone number. You'll be able to call to double-check our location, tell me your on your way, etc. I'm looking into GoogleVoice right now, so I don't have a number to give you just yet (Why do I have to chose a number? I'm too indecisive! Why won't they just assign me a random one? Why don't they have any available with my area code?), but PM me with your name/number and I'll put you on the list.
^That goes for everyone. PM me your name and phone number (unless you entered it on the voting site). I need this in case I lose you!
Menolly07, you can go to an aquarium anytime. Wouldn't you rather roll with the nerds at the Science Museum?
I like the fact that Sam Adams is first thing in the morning.
Hey, it's 5 o'clock somewhere.
Edit: That brings up an interesting question. Is there a breakfast place near Boston Common? Might want to have something to eat before getting my drink on and touring about the city.
On Sam Adams: It's really out of the way, so it was either going to be first or last on its day. Last year it was the last item and the tour didn't get there because they ran late. So I made it first! It's not like you're going to get trashed (I think): it's just a few samples.
On foodstuffs: There is both a Dunkin Donuts and a Starbucks literally across the street from where we are meeting in the mornings if you just want to grab something quick (plus: much-needed coffee!). I believe there's also a McDonald's slightly up the street.
Plan on ordering and paying for all your own food. This will definitely be the case for lunch both days.
If a large group does go to dinner together (be it at Miracle of Science or anywhere else), they may one to do one large group bill, but you can usually ask for separate checks as long as you don't split plates/appetizers.
I don't know about Thursday morning's breakfast. Watch that thread and see what pans out.
Thursday's dinner is paid in advance. If you want to attend, visit the thread and buy your ticket soon.
Also, well done on the planning punzie! You kick butt! You remembered to account for travel time and food and everything! (Believe me, this is a significant improvement over my MMT planning in past years )

You mean touring the brewery isn't incentive enough to be there? What is wrong with that man?

I think sending him on a brewery tour after 30 hours of travel plus the ambien he needs to sleep on the planes ought to make it WAY more amusing for the rest of us.
I should probably pack a Weekend at Bernie's outfit for him and we can drag him around in a wagon to the events and pose him.
Oh my WORD!! Ambien.. My friend takes that, she tweets when she's on it before she goes to sleep. I'm sorry I'm going to miss THAT most of all! People with residual Ambien are a-may-zing.

Me and my +1 are not 100% at this point. We're arriving in Boston on Thurs, so we have to see how long it takes us to get to the hotel, and how early the hotel will allow us to check in. We may join the group on the way if we can manage it.

Is there a map/list of the transit routes we are using available?
Trying to decide between that and driving...because Boston driving makes me wanna flip off a box of kittens.

Two words, Decius. Cow paths. Bostons roads are based on cow paths. They wander around and don't make any sense. Also Boston drivers are quite aggressive.
You live in the tundra, dude. There can't be that much traffic there.
I'm a guy who loves to drive, and I'd still rather not drive in Boston.

Where we are meeting up in the morning is right outside Park St station on the Red and Green Lines of the T. If you're staying near the BCEC, you can take the Silver line from World Trade Center to South Station and then switch over to the Red line and take it to Park St station.
If you don't mind walking, it's only about 30 minutes from the BCEC.
Seriously, Google maps is really helpful. Wherever you're staying, you can enter the address to look up the nearest T station or even ask it to give you step by step directions (just choose public transit instead of driving directions). If it tells you to use red/green/blue/silver/orange lines, it's the subway (T). If it gives a # in yellow, that's the bus. I've never used the bus in Boston, only the subway, so I can't really give you any advice there.
I can not wait! I'm coming down to work on Wednesday (which is fun when you enjoy what you do), might meet up with MMT later on in the day, depends on how long my meeting lasts. BUT, I'll definitely be there Thursday, can't wait to go to Dick's.
