Love the game. Love that the childeren are freaking out about their loss of Quickscoping/Perk Stacking/Noobtubing exploits.
Saw this posted on the BLOPS boards:
Here's the deal.....
There are some people really whining about this game. Yes, complaining is ok. That's how things get fixed. But reading some of the gripes about Black Ops, i'm just not feeling it, especially with how some of these gripes are flying around so quickly after the game came out. Whatever happened to playing the game for a few days? Get a good feel?
So I'm seeing a lot of complaining about some ridiculously silly things. It's ok to gripe about bad host connection. Keeping groups together when going into lobbies. Treyarch needs and wants to hear about those things. But people whining that the graphics aren't quite as good, so that makes that BO is a terrible game. Seriously? You gots to be kidding!!!! I'm not saying this game is perfect ...but saying the game sucks because the graphics are slightly different? Come on. Also, I hear some complaints about the audio... come on, is it really affecting your gameplay experience 'that much' because you can't hear an opponent wiping his bunghole on the other side of the map?????
My thoughts. From my end, i think most of the bitching is this. MW2 brought probably an additional 8 to 10 million new people into the CoD FPS game system. Many of these were kids and tweenies. Many of them got introduced to the MW2 FPS 'system', as their first system to learn on. A system that was very noob friendly that allowed people to blast away with some ridiculously easy perks and exaggerations to the system. I think 90% of the people whining.....Kids, tweenies, some adults, who are now upset......they're using the above smokescreen issues to hide their true anger, their real reason of discontent. The real reason they are angry is below. These people fall into one of these groups:
Group 1 - - The Farm Killer' guy - There are millions of MW2 people crossing over to BO, who made a living sandbagging games in the Objective game format. Enter the game, do nothing to help, and just pad their stats. Then brag after the game how good their KD ratio was. Later on, talk smack with those on their friends list, about what their KD is, how good it is, and how their KD is better than everyone else's. All KD, all the time, 24/7. Eat, sleep and drink KD. You know the type. Put up a post, they'll mention..."oh, btw, my KD is 2.37.". That's how itit was and Infinity Ward encouraged that. They taught those kids that KD was all that mattered. .......Well, life sucks for the kiddies now. They go into an objective game, sandbag it...and suddenly, their scores aren't as high. In fact, when they go to compare/trade notes with their other 14 year old farm killing clown friends on the friends list leaderboard...... KD isn't even on the lobby board anymore. Oops. All that shows up is 'points per minute'. These kids don't know what to think anymore...they are lost. Oops. Life sucks for them. So what do they do? It's time to get on the Treyarch message board and make up a reason why this game stinks. Find solace with other people like the above. Saying anything but the above, as they wouldn't want to admit to that.
Group 2 - - The "I no longer have my same perks, so this game sucks" guy - You know this type of person. He's playing this game now, and realizing that he can't exploit things like before. He can't use exaggerated perks from MW2 to make up for his crap-ass gameplay. He can't use infinite OMA tubing. He can't use his turtle beaches to hear a person crawling 100' away. He can't use his sniper rifle to quickscope as a close range weapon. He can't use L/M Commando's 18' teleporting knife skills to cover up his sloppy play anymore. All of these ridiculous IW inspired exaggerations are gone....and the above person now has no clue how to play now. Oops. Life sucks for them. Time to get on the Treyarch message board and make up a reason why this game stinks. Anything but the above, as they wouldn't want to admit to that.
Group 3- - The " 7/9/11 " guy - You know this guy. He's been taught by Infinity Ward that the only thing that matter is FPS'ers is to kill, kill and keep getting kills. While yes, it is a solid part of the game, there are objective games where killing is the secondary purpose to things. But the above person just wants kills. And he was raised and fed on IW's grossly exaggerated, steroided system of stacking killstreaks. He is used to immediately running off to the corner, getting 5 to 7 kills...and then hiding the rest of the way. Letting his killstreaks earn other killstreaks while he does nothing. Get his harrier, get his pavelow, then his CG...then brag at the end of the game how he had 45 kills. This kid is now pissed off, royally. He can't do that. Oops. Life sucks for him. Time to get on the Treyarch message board and make up a reason why this game stinks. Anything but the above, as he wouldn't want to admit to that.
Group 4- - The " Youtubing Quickscoper " guy - Oh yeah, the quickscoper. He's all over the BO boards bitching. This is the kid/tweenie who spent his entire life being picked last at kickball, being cut on his soccer team. The kid who always wanted to be a superhero, but at age 10, realized they are fiction. But then found MW2 and realized there was another way. He found out he could grind out the exploit in auto-aim, attach 'OpTic' to his tag, and then make YouTube videos of himself using the Intervention as a 'beastly weapon'. Suddenly, he was important. He was the 'man'. He was getting 27 views on his YouTube account, with seven leaving replies like .."COOL sHOt brO, uR rad". . Yes, life was good. Other tweenies backslapped him at recess. All was perfect in life, dreams of a possible Pro Quickscoping job when he got to be 18.........but then Black Ops came out and ruined it all. Oh the horror. Quickscoping is gone. Oops. Life sucks for him. Time to get on the Treyarch message board and make up a fictional reason why this game stinks. Anything but the above, as he wouldn't want to admit to that.
So....please don't get the above wrong. There are some legit issues to be fixed and improved on. And they will. But overall, this game, Black Ops, is a much better, improved game over MW2. It is better....overall. There is more content, more to do, better balanced gameplay, toned down gameplay that doesn't have steroided perks. Keep it real and admit that. It might not have everything you wanted, but overall, it works. And if you are in one of those above groups....learn to play a FPS without the kiddie training wheels on. Grow up, you don't need infinite noob-tubing TAR 21's or be able to have Steve Austin 'Bionic Man' ears when listening to the enemy. That stuff was crap, let it go. You'll be better for it.
Peace.
Wait, so you're telling me:
1) This game deemphasizes people who just rack up kill streaks in objective maps and actually rewards people who do what the fuck they're supposed to do
2)Teleporting knifers are gone
If I had known these two things I would have bought the game already.
the knife still has a lunge, but most of the time it isnt as bullshit as it was in mw2
but yeah, killstreaks not building up to other killstreaks makes this game way more focused on gameplay because not everyone and their mother is getting a chopper gunner every match
there are tons of matches where you just don't see killstreaks above like, a napalm strike (at 5) because its a close match
I really want to put an enemy in Second Chance, place C4 on him, and wait for another enemy to come by and revive him. Just wanna try it once.
I did this on a teammate in Second Chance once, blew it up when a guy from the other team came around the corner to execute him.
It was so good.
Also good: Getting a triple kill with a valkyrie missile because half the enemy team decided to camp prone on top of the truck on Grid.
LTTP, but yesterday I was in a game where someone put a claymore on an enemy who was driving his rc car around. When he came out of that he immediately blew up. It was a final killcam shot too.
Wait, so the last LMG is actually usable? Might consider trying this game again if that's the case.
Usable? No.
Amazing? Yes. I've gotten as high as 5.4 KD or so with it, and consistently go 2:1 with it.
Suggestions:
1. Take extended mags. The irons are cool, so that is fine. Though if you like warlord, a sight wouldn't hurt.
2. Use good cover and good bursts. The thing is a murder machine at anything short of sniper distance if used properly, and they will very rarely have the accuracy to retaliate if you're in cover.
3. Be support. Cover flanks, provide overwatch, murder mans. You can do some cool things up close if you have good twitch, but the primary role of the gun is to be ridiculously awesome in a mid to long range support role.

Use the non-M60 LMGs like big fucking assault rifles and you'll rip shit apart. Use them like the RPD was in MW2 and you'll be looking at sky.
But yeah this post above is good, follow it. 4-5 round bursts past 50 feet and within that, WALL OF LEAD.
HALP: I've tried to get the game to start in multiplayer mode many times, and it seems like the option never seems to take. Is there a "save preferences" thing I have to do that I'm not aware of?
But if I run Ghost, I have to drop Hardline, and I just can't do that. I'm also the only person on my team to ever shoot down Cobras and Hueys. And I only have the Law currently (Well, I do have the RPG but it doesn't have lock on) so I have to take a shot, make the chopper shoot its load, let it kill me and then take it down. I think I'm also the only person who uses spy planes, because every two seconds I hear "Friendly RC-XD inbound" because "its all about the kills brah!"
And if I do have a team mate use a spy plane, it usually goes like:
"Enemy counter-spy plane is in the air."
"Friendly Spy plane inbound."
Effing dipshits... -_-
Spy plane is super useful. RC XD is novel, can be fun for clearing flag campers, but is ultimately less useful than spy plane.

My killstreaks pretty much are 3-4-8, because the radar is your best tool.
-first blood medals. This one's a bitch since you only get one shot at it per match.
I got this over around 5 hours (across two days) of Ground War. I used SoH, Marathon, and Lightweight. The secret I found was to use the LAW and to be familiar with where the typical points of first contact are on a given map, as the two teams typically open by rushing toward each other and collide somewhere in the middle. I'd sprint directly to that point and as soon as I saw any movement on the far side, I'd fire off a LAW. My success rate was surprisingly high, especially if I was lucky enough to take out a car and snag a double or triple kill. That still only counts as one First Blood, but it makes it even funnier to watch on replay.
ATTENTION PC BLOPSERS.
If you have a nvidia 4x0 card and are experiencing stuttering or low fps ingame. Try disabling shadows in the graphics settings. Treyarch's pcdev has confirmed there's a problem with the shaders on those series of cards.
I had minimal stuttering, but rather low fps ( "high" setting - going from 40-60 most of the time ) but with no shadows I've just about doubled my framerate ( "extra" setting ). The lack of shadows isn't that bad and I don't really care given that the game runs realy really fast now.

What about those of us that have older cards, like 9000 series?
I don't understand why I don't see more people running silenced guns. Especially in smaller games, I cringe at the thought of revealing my position every time I fire. On ground war it's not so bad, because there are too many damn people around anyway, but on regular TDM?

Sev: Your gameplay is the most heavily yomi based around. Usually you look for characters that allow you to force guessing situations for big dmg. Even if the guess is mathematically nowhere near in your favor lol. You're happiest when you have either a 50/50, 33/33/33 or even a 75/25 situation to go crazy with. And you will take big risks to force those situations to come up.

I like the sound my gun makes
it makes me feel big and manly 8-)
I'm on a mere Radeon GTS 240 and it's been running everything I throw at it on good settings, including BLOPs. So glad I didn't overspend and get the latest video card.

I hated the damage reduction. It got me killed more times than I could count while I was working on the 200 kills for ninja pro. When I play hardcore I usually put one on, but in regular core I find it more of a hindrance than a help.
Fair enough, I will admit I'm partial to the sound my Galil makes. I also enjoy playing a stealth build though, sneaking up on mans and shooting them in the back.

Do the suppressors in this game make the guns useless?
The idea is that BLOPS sends way more packets/has more packet drops than Windows allows through. Undo the windows bottleneck and BLOPS is free to spam away (and isn't hold back).

So far yes, this has been my experience.
I havn't even bothered trying them. Real men go in all guns blazing and make sure everyone knows they are there.

While I haven't spent a lot of time with stealth builds it seems to me that being sneaky is significantly less effective than in CoD4. You're just always running into someone

Next question to whoever's used them a lot. Do they steady the recoil down on the guns you've used them on?

Doesn't help that with the movement sounds being broken, everyone gets Ninja for free.

Just remember that half the people you meet are below average intelligence.
Well, in fact stealth can be very effective. Footstep sounds are bugged right now, as in the footsteps volume is so low no one will hear you coming. Equip the ghost perk with a supressed weapon and your virtually invisible.
I haven't done much stealthing though, but I'm thinking about giving it a shot.
BTW: the jammer is like a deployable cloaking field, big whoop since scrambler, right? I know, but it disables other equipment, which is very cool
A week into the game now and people are still freaking out on the BLOPS boards about the no quickscoping. Lets see they have passed though shock/denial, pain/guilt, and are now on anger/bargaining. Looking forward to how depression, the upward turn, reconstruction, and then acceptance show up in terms of forum posts.

went 30-0 with it a while ago, got both my huey and my hind
and i have gotten plenty a huey with it
i hate the rpk though, and i still need to unlock the stoner
but i guess you wouldn't know huh
Because you shouldn't be moving around like a fucking goose with a 74u when you've got an M60.
