God dammit you are fast mavers, just came to post that.
All good choices, Lakeside is a very well made map, Nightfall is pretty much embedded in my head as a standard map now anyway, and Frontier CHEW CHEW nuff said.
I will admit, when I worked in a meat dept I almost took scraps of meat and wrote out Team Fortress 2 on our cutting table and took a picture for the OP banner.
The problem is that force jumping works against you when you are trying to shoot somebody in midair while jumping normally, which is bread and butter with the scattergun. The knockback is also not usually desirable; it's likely to move your opponent into a range where they are more comfortable fighting you. The damage output is briefly better, but not by a lot, so while you can run in and take out a medic then get out fast, you could do the same thing with the scattergun and also have the option to take out his patient with a few more shots. It only makes sense in very specific situations, like running the intel on Doublecross.
Basically it was once considered overpowered so Valve nerfed it until it was a definite downgrade. Like Natascha and the Sandman - people don't like playing against weapons that take away their movement control so they get nerfed.
Avoiding boring post syndrome: a friend F5'ed this one in a 1v1. DOLPHIN SCOUT.
I primarily like to make use of force jumping on Badlands (gets me to center and spire a second or two faster) and the aforementioned Doublecross. I like to use the knock back on payload/plr levels with handy bottomless pits like Upward and You are correct that it is fairly situational, though. I'd almost always rather be using the shortstop.
I have yet to experiment much with the extra jump you get from the Boston Basher, but it might be enough to replace the FaN in Badlands.
So a FaN finally dropped, I stopped playing Pyro and have been playing Scout for a while now, but why would I ever use this gun over the Scattergun?
Force jumping, knock back, very high damage at short range.
I thought the same thing right up until the first time I got into a scout fight and my reload ended up killing me because he still had 4 shots left.
That being said, as soon as the shortstop dropped, the FaN became a hat component.
I still use the FaN on occasions. One of which being force-jumping into the gold rush sniper attic and killing oblivious wankers. Ditto on harvest.
ctf_well makes it useful for the ability to easily get on top of the train cars, and you can also jump into the attic from the main room. You can also get on top of the rails in the intel room if you're waiting for a good opportunity to snatch the intel and run. And with a little practice jump from the floor of the intel room to the top level. See also:

I think every player has experienced the awful feeling you get in your stomach the moment that spy you were trying to melee slips out of your fov and you know exactly what's going to happen next

That's crazy. I would have died and spawned 84 times as a scout there.
Also Loki? I'm the scout there, too.
I'm not denying Snarf's skill, he's killed me often, but my opinion on that video is it has less to do with Snarf's obvious skill, and more to do with his oblivious opponents.

EDIT: ffff, Sourcemod might've exploded with this update.
EDIT 2: Aaand there it goes. Looks like it might be okay.

Because a lot of people are stupid and won't melee a heavy with the FoS out.
It is my favorite thing to charge heavies and melee them to hell when they have those out.
I was about to really argue with this post ebo but then I looked at your join date and yea the tf2 threads had kinda chilled out by then.

It's too bad he's not holding a fish, then the screen shot would be epic. As it stands it's still pretty damn good.

Yeah...but you're good at the game.

The destroyer of worlds!
I got splattered by scouts many a time on Hightower
I love meleeing people with my vita-saw
Still, it just helps to balance out the times that perfectly legitimate backstabs fluff

Step 1. Caress the mackerel lovingly...
I also don't like playing engineer on defense (A/D or PL maps). I would rather babysit an engineer as a pyro than actually play one on defense.
Anyone else, tell me if you see something up. I am pretty tired most of the time these days and don't always catch skullduggery.
