Not, i'll admit, the most desperate of problems to have. But after nearly two months without any sort of mobile, i'm starting to feel a little cut off from most of the world, as most of my friends (and my family) live hundreds of miles away from me.
The problem is I just can't choose a phone. Worse than that, I can't even choose a platform. It's pretty serious.
Previously I have only ever had Sony Ericssons (the W810i, the W910i, the W995), all from the pre-touchscreen/pre-keyboard era, and they were universally great. This leads me to my first possible choice, the snappily named Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini Pro. It's got Android, a touchscreen, a keyboard, and it's small and probably won't break easily, based on my past experience of their products.
I'm also considering an HTC Trophy on Windows Phone 7, and I don't have any particularly good reasons why. It's just a
nice phone...
Not really interested in an iPhone, my housemate has had one for the last couple of years, before replacing it with a HTC Desire and never looking back, but if you have some particularly strong arguments for it i'm easily persuaded.
Basically, the above listed two phones are the frontrunners - tell me which one is better, or, alternatively, tell me a completely different one to buy. Bear in mind i'm in the UK, so there are a small number of phones that either have different names here or just aren't available yet.
Thank you

Get an iPhone or a proper size Android phone (the Desire is indeed nice)
I'd hold back on the WP7 until it has some developer support.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S, which I believe, is still the "best" on the market. The only drawback to it is that Samsung are hilariously slow with their firmware updates (2.3 is due out in the next month or so, and 2.2 still isn't fully rolled out yet because they got distracted with the Tab). I've friends with HTC Desires though, and they love them to bits.
I've not encountered anybody who owns a handset which uses the new Windows, so I can't really comment.
I have heard terrible things about the Xperia X10, I'd avoid it.
The only problem with desires, and most smart phones, is that their battery life isn't great. But I would recommend android till the cows come home.
You'll be happy whatever Android phone you choose though I recommend one which allows for easy rooting/modding, you'll probably want to do it at some point, even if you don't think you do now...
EDIT: oh, I have a Milestone. I'm happy with it but I can't, in good faith, recommend Motorola phones to anyone since Moto are pricks.
