the most important adaptation we've made to domesticated animals is probably increased development time. Like dogs basically never leave adolescence mentally and thus can imprint on people for most of their lives. Wild animals tend to mature much faster and once they're grown up its impossible to ever get them to identify with humans as their social group.

]Yes, unfortunately. The only solution to this is to essentially abort the baby and then have your baby abort its own baby. This is what is called a "double abortion."

although elldren/others i will say that there is a bit of a fine line between conscious selection and unconscious
like i am fairly certain we didn't go "oh this wolf bites less, let us raise it and its nicer offspring"
it just happened that the nicer ones were more likely to associate with us without getting killed in defense and then we got to where we are now. we didn't do this like the russian fox experiment.
but then again you could argue that even though no one may have thought "oh lets keep the nice ones" it was definitely there
however something like making breeds? definitely directed and conscious.
i am running up to the limit of what i feel comfortable saying without having the evidence i need to back it up though because i can't find the papers i want because my hospital doesn't have access to archaeology journals

I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.
The idea of perpetual canine adolescence is profoundly depressing to me
it's like brave new world
most domesticated animals are pedomorphed
humans as well to some extent
there is some evidence that our longer developmental period (the time it takes to reach sexual maturity and adulthood) is one of the reasons we are so intelligent
we learn for a much longer time than most other animals, and some people almost indefinitely
technically man-children have the potential to be the most intelligent people ever
"The tortoise lays on its back, its belly baking in the hot sun, beating its legs trying to turn itself over, but it can't. Not without your help. But you're not helping. I mean: you're not helping! Why is that, Leon?"

I friend of mine wrote a science fiction story that involved, as a minor bit of flavour, commercially sold puppies genetically engineered to die after they grow to a certain age at which they are no longer considered sufficiently cute.

man you know you can do that without lethal mutants
it ain't hard, in fact we are isolating the genes responsible for canine pedomorphism right now
pretty soon we can just keep them continually upregulated by knocking out specific silencing regulators and the puppy will be a puppy

Yes, but where's the business opportunity in that? Planned obsolescence.

It indeed is rad. I put the link in the image so it could be an easter egg. With only the curious mouse-overers getting it.

Depends, did you think that 2001 was too fast paced and needed to slow down?

The American version no. The Russian version supposedly, but I haven't seen it. The Stanislaw Lem story is worth reading in any case.
there's a reason labs are smart yet so very dumb at the same time

I'm sure I've advocated for that in here.
I gotcha. Teach a man to mouseover, you've fed him for a lifetime kinda thing.
