The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
I have been living in a new apartment for about a month and in that month both my 360 power brick and now my laptop charger have stopped working. There were no power surges or anything like that of which I know, and everything else on that same surge protector has continued working. Is it just a coincidence or does anyone know of anything else it could be?
When my power brick broke (around 2 weeks ago now) I just bought another and have had no problems since, until this morning when my laptop was plugged in but dead. I tried the charger in different plugs so I know that's not the problem. Maybe it is the battery? The battery and charger are both the originals from buying the laptop in early 2007, so it seems maybe one has just given out?
At any rate, I'm probably going to get a new charger in the next day or so but was wondering if anyone knew anything that I might want to mention to the landlord before I do.
Surge protection can wear out over time, and it usually doesn't take more than a few years of shitty power conditions to do it.
For adapters, the most likely culprit isn't over power anyways, its underpower. There's a device you can get (at a building supply store) to ensure you have the right voltage coming out of your sockets. If its a bit low your stuff will still work fine, but your adapters will blow out way faster than normal.
