Windows Won't Recognize My Resolution

MisterdiggerMisterdigger Registered User new member
So, about a week ago, after restarting my computer, I found that neither windows (7) or any of my games could find my default resolution for my monitor (1680x1050).
I managed to force windows to use this resolution through the Nvidia control panel but none of my games go up to it.
Instead, the highest they can detect is 1600x1200. I've googled this problem extensively but can't find an answer.
I've tried updating all my drivers, restarting the computer, reinstalling games, but nothing works.

I play WoW, Vindictus, Fallout, STALKER, TF2 and they all behave the same way.

I'm getting pretty frustrated and just figured I might as well ask here.

Thanks in advance!

Ps: My monitor is a SyncMaster 2253bw and I have a Geforce 8800gt video card, if that makes any difference. Computer is custom built, about two years old and I've never had a problem with it until now.

Have you tried uninstalling the monitor in Device Manager?

Tried it and it doesn't seem to have done anything.

    No ideas?
My next attempt is to call nvidia and see if they have any ideas. If I fix it, I'll post how on here.

I had something similar happen to me before, so I uninstalled the monitor via device manager, and re-installed the drivers for it

    problem solved

but you said you did that so I have zero ideas

Can you think of ANYTHING that changed right before this happened? Why did you restart your computer originally?

Thanks, Tasteticle! Even though I had previously tried to uninstall my monitor, I guess it didn't work. I did it again, per your idea and everything is working perfectly!
