Well Kedinik and I had our games for the tournament. Early, I know, but I have work all day tomorrow so it had to be done!

I wont spoil it, but they were some fun games that didn't involve the typical baneling vs baneling!

    repimg-33-166875.jpg

    repimg-33-166876.jpg

Good games; I recommend number 2 as an especially unusual match.
Both of you had good moments in these, but Anzekay, you really demonstrated how easily top-tier zerg units can make you lose a match. Ultralisks are almost never a good idea, and brood lords are ABSOLUTELY never a good idea.

I've been playing a few matches vs. PAers lately. If anyone wants to add me, I'm DocWalrus.120 and I'm a high-silver Zerg supremacist.

I'm not entierly convinced that's the case. In hindsight, I can see several ways I could've used those brolords a lot better in both games and, paticularly in the second one, they did a lot more damage than I think you give them credit for. Likewise, if I had've spotted his roaches coming down the side, I could've got those ultras up front and probably taken them all out with ling support.

I can certainly understand how both Ultras and brolords are very tedious and inadvisable to use in other matchups, but I think they have a place in ZvZ if used properly. It's just that latter bit that I need to get the hang of.

No way, Ultralisks are champs. I'd agree that Brood Lords have no place in ZvZ, but I hope you don't think they're useless in other matchups.

I've used broodlords to close out long ZvZ matches. They're especially good when supporting a meaty roach/hydra army.

I haven't experimented much with ultras but I bet they're good against roaches if you get a good flank with your other units.

Hey guys, made a clown sad with my terrible play :( He messaged me at length after the match saying how Banshees are for people with no skill and how he only lost to my cheese cos of a misclick; wanted to know where that was (if it even happened). Any comments on my play is also welcome.

I just Time Machine'd into a new Mac and can't find my details to re-register Final Cut Pro, but if I do, and you guys give the competitors training sessions, FRAPS it, send me some footage, I'll I'll put together a training teaser montage, Rocky style.

Also I wanna donate but a) Can't until next payday on the 27th and b) Need an alternative to PayPal. I buy a lot of single tracks from beatport.com and PayPal shut down my account for 'suspicious activity', and PayPal is a ballache to reactivate.

Alright, GSL3 predictions, so I can go back and laugh at how wrong I was:

Bracket A: Will end up with Nestea vs NEXGenius. I think Nestea will take it. Maka and Sen and TheWind are hot though.

Bracket B: This one is crazy. HopeTorture and Fruit in the same group? Holy shit. I'm gonna go with HopeTorture vs Kyrix here, with HopeTorture coming out on top.

Bracket C: BoxeRPrime should sweep his side until Clide, and probably knock him out to. I'm going with Hyperdub on the other side, maybe July.

Bracket D: SlayerSBoxeR does not have an easy path, but I think he will go to the finals in this bracket. He'll meet either Idra or IMMVP, or Check. I'm going with Idra because <3.

I predict no protoss make it to ro8 this time. Sole heroes have suceeded before, but sure as hell ain't looking good.

As for winner, BoxeR seemed very one dimensional seeing the season as a whole, and I think people have him figured out. Nestea has a chance to take it again, but I'm predicting a "new" face to suceed this time. Probably another former sc1 progamer, seeing as how the scene is evolving amazingly fast.

I bet we get a PvP in the ro4 or something insane like that just to spite me though :P.

One of my friends suggested to throw in a few VRs to complement my gateway ball in PvP/PvZ. Is this a more or less viable tactic considering the VR nerf? It would necessitate a Stargate before Robo obviously

the VR change was not a nerf when using them as part of your army composition.

During most battles they won't get charged and a VR has to be constantly attacking for something like....18 seconds, I think, before its actually doing less damage than it would have pre-patch. Doesn't sound like much but 18 seconds is an eternity in a battle.

7.2 seconds. But if it changes target during the first 3.6 it resets to 0.

I have never seen this being used successfully. Void rays are expensive, and they will never do more damage than colossus. Just freaking go gateway ball with colossus. If you do it well, it's really strong.

Yeah that was why I was really confused. gateway ball + colossi just seems to be the most solid midgame comp in general unless the enemy went something funkay

Although I'm definitely thinking getting a Stargate earlier in general; Phoenixes are really underused in my play

Doing it well is the key

Going 2gate robo into fast Colossi RARELY works against high level diamond players, you really need to do something ELSE then transition into it.

whatever that something else is, is irrelevant

Phoenixes are very much a reactionary unit.

They don't do much if the units they counter aren't on the field.

I understand not to go fast colossi, that is just wayyyy too vulnerable to just a solid push. I've never gone 2gate into fast colossi; I usually maneuver around with Blink Stalkers / Sentries to buy time, although I was kind of looking at the VR option to fill in between that and Colossi

too heavy of a tech path unless you're hitting 3 bases.

you'll need to catch them off guard with the tech switch if you're mixing VRs in there.

the key to using VRs is to just not lose them.

If you lose them, you have to either build more or have a stargate that was essentially wasted and is now going idle.

if you don't lose them, you can send them in at any time to harass, or force your opponent to make defenses against them.

The only race I can see VRs not working well against is Terran on two bases because if they go Vikings to counter it (and they will, if they have medivacs already), your Colossi are pre-countered before they arrive.

I don't play P, so take with a grain of salt: I would never build a robo while on 1 base. The units are just too gas heavy, it would be like going ultras off of 2 base as zerg. Bad idea. Also, I would never go just 2 gates before robo.

Get 4-5 gates, and if you can't kill him with that, you should have expanded while you pushed and can now start building a robo or 2.
