I'm pretty sure this was put to rest when we determined that the latency is based on each individual title and the diligence of the developers to have it or not.
Essentially, from prior knowledge and what's been said above, there is inherent lag in Kinect if you are using all of its functions to their fullest potential. Lag can be reduced by using less functions, such as losing the skeletal tracking. This is how Dance Central manages to be pretty much lag free (and why it doesn't let you see your avatar live like other games which do use the skeleton).
So you're correct that developers have some control, obviously the better programmers will be able to maintain less lag, but lag is unavoidable if you intend to do the really neat stuff with Kinect.
Dance Central is a rythmn game too, so lag can pretty easily be overcome.
It depends on what you mean by that, but yeah.
As a rhythm game for Kinect, it requires as much ability to sense limbs as any other game, but it should be easier because they're just telling you to match a pose. It's not reactionary, sensing that the player wants to jump or anything, it just has to compare an ideal pose to the real one.
The perfect lightsaber game has already been created it's called No More Heroes (2). Motion control to select high/low attacks, buttons for hitting, and satisfying motions for killin. Can't beat that.

Yeah but no character in the Star Wars universe, not even a theoretical one like a hybrid of Jar Jar, Anakin and an Ewok, could ever be a bigger unlikable cunt than the protagonist in NMH

1 is...pretty bad too. Though bad in different ways, one could certainly argue. Though being Darth Vader for one level was a fun romp. Bastard literally strolls everywhere.

Crytek is getting in on the free-to-play model with an online shooter called Warface. It is being done by their Koren studio for Korean audiences. They have also announced that they are incapable of creating a decent name for a game.
I've been away for a while, and I'm catching up on all the madness.
The "Activision sparked the Live price increase thing".... interesting. Very interesting. I wouldn't be shocked at all if it were a factor. However, I still stand by my "ESPN is fucking expensive" theory, since they charge cable companies through the nose for the rights to the channels. It could be a combination of both.
Anyway, lemme plow through and see if I can think of something decent for the title.
Very late, but holy crap, everyone here needs to see Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Even if you hate Jim Carrey. Especially if you hate Jim Carrey. He plays a reserved introvert in the movie, and never gets crazy like he usually does. Awesome, awesome film.
It's very weird that there's talk of replacing Stringer at Sony already. I mean, the guy's barely been there a year and a half! And while Sony hasn't had any slam-dunks, they haven't done horribly during the recession either.
Then again, it could be that the 3D gambit hasn't paid off as well as it has (in a recent Wired interview, Stringer said that his entire strategy for Sony is based on 3D), and many at the Japanese company are still wary that there's a foreigner at the helm.
Meanwhile, this could be the most hilarious high-profile vidja game lawsuit of the year.
Eager to become the talk of every music fans' Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow, Axl Rose has just issued his most insane lawsuit yet, suing "Guitar Hero" makers Activision for $20 million for featuring Guns N' Roses' "Welcome to the Jungle" in "Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock." Axl initially signed off on "Jungle" being used in the game, but on one condition: Do not put any music by Velvet Revolver, which boasts guitarist Slash (Rose's former bandmate and mortal enemy) in the game. Well, not only did "Guitar Hero III" offer a bunch of Velvet Revolver songs, they crowned Slash the game's spokesperson, featured him on the game's cover and made him a playable avatar. Cue Axl's lawsuit.
"[Activision] began spinning a web of lies and deception to conceal its true intentions to not only feature Slash and VR prominently in GH III but also promote the game by emphasizing and reinforcing an association between Slash and Guns N' Roses and the band's song 'Welcome to the Jungle,' " Rose's lawyer Skip Miller writes in the $20 million suit. Guns N' Roses' "Sweet Child O' Mine" featured in "Guitar Hero II," and "Shackler's Revenge" from Axl's long-awaited "Chinese Democracy" actually debuted as a game-ending challenge in "Rock Band 2," so Rose isn't opposed to the use of his songs in music video games. This comes down to, once again, Rose's undying hatred of Slash.
"There's zero possibility of me having anything to do with Slash other than by ambush, and that wouldn't be pretty," Rose said in 2009. "In a nutshell, personally I consider him a cancer and better removed, avoided." Rose also sued his former manager Irving Azoff, the CEO of Live Nation Ticketmaster, accusing Azoff of conspiring to assemble a Guns N' Roses reunion tour that included Slash. That legal tiff is likely the reason why Axl's GNR hasn't toured the U.S. on its "Chinese Democracy" trek (although a February tour is rumored).
Why would Axl's lawsuit arrive three years after the release of "Guitar Hero III"? The Amp likes to imagine that during a brief hiatus in the GN'R tour, Rose headed to his local Best Buy to get a jump on some Black Friday shopping. While pushing his cart down the discount video game aisle, he saw the box for "Guitar Hero III" with Slash on the cover and got perturbed. After purchasing the game along with the new deluxe "Avatar" DVD and Nicki Minaj's "Pink Friday," Axl drove back to his home in the Hollywood Hills to see if GNR's music was in fact in the game, only to discover that he bought an XBox 360 copy of "GH3" and he only owned a Playstation 3. Down but not defeated, Rose then realized that he could simply go on Wikipedia to see the game's track list. And then he called his lawyer.
....well, as long as it keeps Axl from making any more "music."

If the agreement Axl's talking about was a real thing, then I see no reason why he shouldn't sue. Activision's been well known to pull crap like that all the time.

Yeah. As petty as it sounds, if that was a part of the contract, it was a part of the contract.
Kinect sold 26,000 units in Japan during its launch weekend of November 20 and 21 according to figures released by Japanese video game software and hardware tracking firm Media Create, who described the launch as a "quiet start" for the hardware.
The figure includes stand-alone units as well as those bundled with a console. The tracking firm compared Kinect sales to those of its rival, PlayStation Move, stating that Kinect sold "about half" of what Sony's motion controller achieved during its October debut.
The relatively poor performance of Microsoft's hardware may be linked to its steeper price. Japanese Move bundles start at 5100 yen (approximately $60.89) compared to 14,800 yen ($176.70) for Kinect units.
None of Kinect's launch games broke into the Japanese Top 20 chart for the week, Media Create revealing that DanceMasters was the best-selling title in the line-up, shifting 6,000 copies, placing it in 24th in Media Create's top 50.
Kinect Sports debuted at 45. Crossboard 7, New Brain Training and Sonic Free Riders did not feature in the top 50. By way of comparison, during PlayStation Move's launch week, four Move games featured in the the top 20 with combined sales of well over 50,000 copies.

But Lucasarts made it a point just a few months ago that they were going to stop outsourcing and make most of their games internally.
Yes. Which means longer-stints between Star Wars games OR shoddy-quality Star Wars games.
I really don't understand their strategy. Consistently laying off employees doesn't really create the best culture in an organization.
I mean, I would be pretty paranoid right now if I were a LucasArts dev.

That is a good point...
I actually liked 1. 2 is pretty horrible. Not only is the gameplay worse, especially the level design, but the story is somehow even more nonsensical

I swear that's an Onion article.
I remember it from that Penny-Arcade podcast
It is an Onion article. They removed it.
That 'article' is utterly repugnant. I feel bad for contributing to their hits.
edit: Onion?
I figured it was a little implausible but at a glance it seemed possible that it was true.

I looked at that linked pic, and saw above the lol Warface bit that S.T.A.L.K.E.R's studio is releasing a line of S.T.A.L.K.E.R game clothes. Huh.
