I hope it's more like that and less like the old lame SCs
But the fact that they're putting out a Splinter Cell collection of the old ones makes me wary
Has there been any news on this aside from "Oh yeah, it's going to happen"? I just want to know if it's going to be like the PoP one where I have to import a disk to be able to really play it.
I didn't realize Jade Raymond was still with Ubi. She was all over the place leading up the first Assassin Creed, but never saw her afterwards.
Do you remember the reaction she got then? You can't really blame her for staying out of the public eye.
It didn't help that she was basically put up in front for everything, one picture of those who made AC had her right up in front several feet in front of everyone else who was packed together spread out over the room.
Yeah stuff like that, doesn't tend to go down well.
If Conviction and Alpha Protocl were combined it would be the God of gaming. Like, if AP were as polished as Conviction and had the silhouette thing on top of the AP story elements and RPG system.
EDIT
Jade Raymond had practically zero experience, was put in charge and became the very public face of Assassin's Creed.
Sales pass 1m in less than a week - making it publisher’s fastest-selling game - and franchise hits 20m, MCV can reveal
Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood has sold over 1m copies across Europe in less than a week, publisher Ubisoft has told MCV.
The swift success of the game makes it the publisher’s fastest-selling game ever in the European territories, and overall the publisher’s biggest franchise.
To date, the Assassin’s Creed games have sold in excess of 20m games. The series is on course to have sold 30m units by the end of 2011 – just in time for the fourth game, which hits late next year, said Geoffroy Sardin, EMEA chief of marketing and sales at Ubisoft.
“If you compare [the 1m in a week] with last year’s ACII sales this is a big jump – so it’s a great achievement,” he told MCV.
“It’s the best launch in the history of Ubisoft’s European sales, and our best-selling launch title ever.”
The game features a lengthy story following on from last year’s best-selling ACII – but also adds a unique multiplayer mode for the first time.
“Apart from the big marketing campaign that we started a few week ago, and which continues over the coming weeks, the main reason the game has succeeded is that we transformed the brand from a single player one to a multiplayer one,” Sardin commented.
Ubisoft research shows that 60 per cent of all AC: Brotherhood purchasers are playing the multiplayer mode – and many of haven’t played other Assassin’s Creed titles.
“The multiplayer mode attracts new players – when we track who is playing the multiplayer we can se they are new to the franchise,” explained Sardin.
“It is the first time we have added such a big multiplayer mode to an action franchise – but we’re seeing people play a lot and regularly, so clearly they do enjoy it. The activity on forums is very happy.
“But of course we have a good history and expertise with multiplayer – in Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell – so we knew what we were doing. There are other franchises that would benefit from that, but I can’t say which ones just now. The next big multiplayer game for us is Ghost Recon - that will be massive.”
However Ubi isn’t just talking up its next big multiplayer game: an active DLC plan is in place to keep Brotherhood players happy and ensure the AC franchise remains prominent.
A free DLC pack adding a new game mode and map hits on December 14th, and Sardin said more will follow – although the firm hasn’t yet decided if all will be free.
Rival action franchise Call of Duty has built a lucrative sideline in premium DLC sales accompanying big-ticket annual retail releases.
Speaking of which... Sardin said the Black Ops boom hadn’t hurt chances for Ubisoft’s game, which launched just a week after the new Call of Duty. And, like CoD, retail can expect another big AC sequel for 2011.
He explained: “Yes, Yves [Guillemot, Ubisoft CEO] mentioned it last week in our financials – and more details will be forthcoming. But what I can say is that next year we will have another big Assassin’s Creed game.”
Either way, for only a year in development, Brotherhood is absolutely amazing and the best in the series so far, so I have high hopes for next year's AC.
I haven't played Brotherhood so I'm going with hearsay from this forum but it seems that the multiplayer was well-crafted without taking much away from the single-player. I don't see why other Assassin's Creed games shouldn't have multiplayer.
EDIT: After watching a bit of that LP of Jurassic Park: Tresspasser I"m wondering if the game could be good if they applied the open-world techniques Bethesda and Obsidian used when creating FO3 and New Vegas. Jurassic Park isn't really relevant anymore though.
People always say the latest Assassin’s Creed is actually good this time, and a massive improvement.
They burned me twice, they don't get to do it a third time. I'll pick it up when it's in the bargain bin, maybe.
If you didn't like 2, you won't like Brotherhood
That said, if you can't see how 2 is a massive improvement over the first you're just being willfully ignorant. There are plenty that were converted by 2 after hating the first.
Either way, for only a year in development, Brotherhood is absolutely amazing and the best in the series so far, so I have high hopes for next year's AC.
It got created so fast because there was an absurd amount of people working on the game spread across several studios.
I just realized that both Jade Raymond and Patrice Desilets are no longer working on Assassin's Creed. That's kind of worrying for the next game.

I liked both Conviction and the older Splinter Cell games.
I guess that makes me an aberration.
I suppose it helps that I knew pretty much exactly what I was in for when I bought Conviction though. Except for the co-op campaign, that was just an awesome surprise.
There's plenty of silly 3rd person corridor shooters that play a lot like conviction for you to play.
Not too many with a light-stealth element like Conviction had, though. That was really refreshing.
Conviction, Batman and parts of Uncharted 2 are all I can really think of.
Then bugger off and play those games?
I'm fine with GRAW, Rainbow Six Vegas and Prince of Persia 08 because I thought they were still pretty good games regardless, so I'm not completely against Ubisoft babying up their games. Splinter Cell Conviction on the other hand, was a brainless shooter that had even less to do with the previous installments than any of the games mentioned above. And it wasn't even a good shooter, it was pretty crap really.
Jade Raymond had practically zero experience, was put in charge and became the very public face of Assassin's Creed.
And then the game sucked.
She was a programmer at SOE and a producer at EA, so not really. I somehow doubt anyone would've cared if a good looking guy were given the same job. The backlash against her was pathetic at best, creepy at worst.

By 'has to be' you mean 'not going to happen', right? AC3 is coming out next year. There's nothing left for Ezio to do and a 2 year gap between main installments has been the standard so far.
Brotherhood makes a few good additions/changes but overall, I really don't think it's as good as AC2. Ezio's story was almost entirely pointless and some of the changes were for the worse (I'm specifically thinking of weapons/armour here). Oh and the trophies/achievements were pretty crap.
Oh and Brotherhood wasn't in development for just a year. Ubisoft were planning yearly installments straight after AC1 became a hit. It would've been in the planning stages from at least mid-way through AC2's development.
You can change them on the fly instead of having to go back to your hideout
That is fucking awesome
There's less of them and their introductions are poorly paced. And by the time you even bother with the shop quests, you've probably already got the best armour in the game.

Nobody would have cared if a good looking guy had made the game, because ubisoft would not have based significant coverage of the game around the hotness of the guy.
People had a right to be pissed when ubisoft basically said "hey nerds buy this game, because a hot girl made it"
My expectations for a new splinter cell aren't so much low as they are subterranean. Although I do look forward to seeing how they further strip mechanics out of the game.

Remember when Sega had ads that were like "Cool guys wearing jeans make our games. Dorky guys wearing labcoats make games for Nintendo"?
Well fuck you Sega, the guys in lab coats make better games.

Please find me anything Ubisoft released that was based on how hot Jade Raymond is. Sure she was front and centre when presenting Assassin's Creed but so what? There are plenty of producers that take up similar roles on games. Her attractiveness is only an issue if you make it one, the idea that they chose her to present the game solely to attract nerds because she's hot is bloody ridiculous. How many people that bought Assassin's Creed have any idea who she is? 1%? If even that?
Ubisoft ditched the original developers and moved it to Ubisoft Shanghai a couple of years ago because it wasn't too good. Apparently it's coming out next year. I don't think it was ever a Jade Raymond game though, that was just a rumour.

Her programming credentials prior to Assassin's Creed was for a Jeopardy game and a Wheel of Fortune game. If a good looking guy had gotten the same amount of press for a really bad game the reaction would have been the same.
Don't tell me you've forgotten how much crap we give Cliffy B, David Jaffe, or Molyneux. There is no double standard here.
She was a nobody and was made a very public figure linked with the game. Chances are because she was an attractive female. Quick, tell me another high profile game from Ubisoft where the company placed it's producer in the limelight. Can you tell me who produced Splinter Cell without Googling it? Nope.
EDIT
With that said, the backlash got pretty misogynistic for a bit and that was disgusting and uncalled for, for sure. But in general? She was pretty much a tool to generate interest in a meh game. The public backlash against her was largely justified.
The Smart Way To Launch An Xbox Live Game May Be To Keep It A Secret
You can play adorable, clever cooperative puzzle game ilomilo via Xbox Live Arcade right now, a small surprise of a video game launch that somebody's trying to keep "secret."
Xbox 360 owners can now download the demo version of ilomilo via Xbox Live Marketplace, but only if they access a special site and receive a download token for the game. Redeem that token to download the trial version of ilomilo, then spend the 800 Microsoft Points to unlock it if you like what you see. I certainly liked it. Maybe you should get "secret access" too and see if this is the way you'd like to spend your weekend.

Almost certainly the latter, Ubisoft have really gone down the shitter in the last few years.

It really did take me by surprise.
They burned me twice, they don't get to do it a third time. I'll pick it up when it's in the bargain bin, maybe.
She was also executive producer on the two following games. Just going off of PA's general opinions she seems to have succeeded.

Been looking forward to this game for a while. Interesting way to release it.
