A way-too-general music recommendation thread (Probably NSF56k)
As in, you post music you like, and I check that out and potentially expand my playlist.
I am looking for new sounds and new things. Whether that's metal or chiptunes or K-pop or something I've never even heard of or conceived, I don't give a fuck.
The one thing I will say is that I generally favor music without vocals (barring choral music and occasional operatic stuff), but the right vocalist can make an already great song better.
So, itt we broaden my horizons? Please and thank you.
and me being pmed requesting guides to kpop multiple times I am forming a CENTRALIZED KPOP APPRECIATION STATION RIGHT HERE RIGHT NOW! Here is your primer:
I hope at least one of these is too your liking. It's not a great flood of music, but I think everything is of good quality. The first one is something of a shot in the dark, but if you like instrumental metal then the second spoiler should be more your speed.
This band is called Maps & Atlases and they are pretty okay
(Lead singer's voice is either Love It or Hate It for most)
Pretty much anything Gary Arce (guitarist for Yawning Man) is involved in is fantastic. It all has a similar vibe to it (instrumental, laid back, and psychedelic).
This is actually one of Earthless' shorter tracks. Aside from their Cherry Red cover every track they've put out is over 20 minutes long. They come up with infectious grooves and jam the fuck out of them.
Monkey3, a very worthy successor to 35007's legacy. The two bands share a similar sound (spacey jam rock, though I get more of an arctic vibe off Monkey3 rather than space), and you can't go wrong with either one. They also have a pretty cool cover of Ennio Morricone's Once Upon a Time in the West.
Hey guys, if you use spoilers it will not make the page incredibly long.
Anything by Do Make Say Think is pretty good if you want to hear well-played guitars. Sometimes I think they extend the songs for a bit but it's still pretty good.

Rana Santacruz
Mini concert with multiple songs. The 3rd song "El Funeral De Tacho" is probably the best, in my opinion. It's a mariachi/bluegrass group.
William Shatner - It Hasn't Happened Yet
Honestly, this whole album is amazing and I probably would've gone with Common People to introduce it, but I don't think it really encompasses the reflective nature of the album. The album was produced by Ben Folds and is just really amazing. Get the album!
Metric - Grow Up and Blow Away
I was more used to Metric's new album, but listened to some of their other albums and they were pretty sweet, so here's this.
Sam Cooke - Bring It On Home To Me
Sam Cooke was an amazing singer and this is from what is arguably the greatest live soul album ever, Live at the Harlem Square Club, 1963.

Medeski Martin & Wood - Hey-Hee-Hi-Ho
They're an experimental (I guess?) jazz trio that are pretty awesome.
Rana Santacruz
Mini concert with multiple songs. The 3rd song "El Funeral De Tacho" is probably the best, in my opinion. It's a mariachi/bluegrass group.
Johnny Flynn - The Wrote and the Writ
Folk music with pop sensibilities, I suppose.
Mason Jennings - Nothing
Kind of like Jack Johnson, but different.
DJ Shadow - Broken Levee Blues
DJ Shadow is kind of varied depending on what song you listen to, but overall I like his sound.
Ratatat - Beat 1
I don't know, but they're sweet.
Delicate Steve - The Ballad of Speck and Pebble
Kind of like a relaxed Ratatat.
Peter Schilling - Major Tom (Coming Home)
Old school but I really liked it and found it recently, so here it is.
El Ten Eleven - Hot Cakes
Drums, guitars and loops - good times. You should see a live video.
Grant Green - Ain't It Funky Now
Favorite jazz guitarist, has a great band.
Pinback - Fortress
Guitar gets in my head.
Yes - Roundabout
Such a randomly awesome song that I had to include it. Seriously. Listen to it.
Pretty Lights - I Can See It In Your Face
Electronic/Hiphop, fun stuff. Reminds me of RJD2.
William Shatner - It Hasn't Happened Yet
Honestly, this whole album is amazing and I probably would've gone with Common People to introduce it, but I don't think it really encompasses the reflective nature of the album. The album was produced by Ben Folds and is just really amazing. Get the album!

Sam Cooke - Bring It On Home To Me

Northaunt
Cruachan
Acid Bath
Pierre Bensusan
Kalashnikov
The Wolfe Tones

Its a side project from menomena's Drummer but its so diverse i think you'd almost have to find something you like in all of it.
I can't find any of the stripped down acoustic songs but they're out there somewhere if you are interested.
