Age of Empires 3 (Buy for Ten cents from M$, Sunday only)

Age of Empires 3

This game rocked. I loved the Capitol screen alone. Lets reminisce on this great game as it downloads for us.

I never found a good way to turtle around the stage coach/railroad station. I couldn't build a gate on the train tracks, so I needed to just cover it with units.

From what Something Awful forums said, yes, Ronya.

Someone said that it includes even the second expansion by the guys that did Rise of Nations.

For anyone having issues with the xbox live region nonsense on the website, I managed to get it just fine using the standalone GFWL client.

Downside is you have to use the GFWL client.

Wow Machismo. Good catch. I own the third one, but I never got the expansions.

It's unfortunate that Microsoft shut down Ensemble Studios. I've always been a big fan of the series.

I picked this up, pretty excited about it! I bought the huge collector's edition of AoE III but I never bought the expansions.

This plus MS pulling the plug on Halo Wars makes this a sad day for Ensemble, in a way.

Um, the website isn't working for me. When I went to sign in it said 'something has gone wrong' and offers a link to go to the home page, which shows a bunch of error text. Now when I go to the link to the AoE3 page it says 'something has gone wrong' as well.

Why have you tempted me with this only to take it away?

Is this game like Civilization with its expansions?

Like, If I play The Asian Dynasties, do I still have access to War Chiefs and the base game?

Or do I have to play each expansion/base game separately?

I don't know how it works in 3, but I know the others, expansions added units and civs that could be used in conjuction with those in the base game, as well as maps and scenarios.

    yes, you do

you can play the campaigns of the earlier ones too

(although like age of empires ii and age of mythology, playing the earlier campaigns while in later xpacs can produce some strange quirks - you can build native embassies but not build natives from them while in the vanilla campaign, for instance. But the AI can and does build the Saloon, and floods the whole goddamn map with mercenary units. It is strange, but not gamebreaking)

Even thought I already owned AoEIII and War Chiefs I went ahead and bought this anyway because I always wanted Asian Dynasties but the price just never came down.

Now I can sell my boxed copies though I suppose for a couple of bucks. Not a bad deal. Another game download client but meh. Being able to use my xbox live account and MS points is pretty nice though, since I tend to have some usually anyway.

AoEIII is a great game. Anyone who likes RTS's who hasn't played it should get it now.

Hell, anyone who is even barely curious should just get it. It's ten fucking cents. You'd be insane not to.

While I haven't gotten past loading the game and playing the tutorial, but so far it seems to work on my Eee PC netbook (Atom N450 1.67Ghz CPU, 2GB RAM) on low settings.

Not sure how it'll handle more units on screen, but for 10 cents or (in my case) 10 of the MS Points I got for free, it's a no-brainer.

I don't understand. Your problem is you have to spend real money to buy something?

You can buy point cards in stores without putting your CC info into a website if that's what you're worried about.

Anyway I only asked because most people who have a live account and have bought things via points typically have random amounts of points to spare, so this is just a little bonus for that.

If you never plan on buying anything on xbox live or on gfwl then buying a point card in a store or online wouldn't be ideal, no.

But it is easy enough (now, didn't use to be) to remove your cc info from your live account. You can just use it then go back in and delete it.
