    most unnecessary sequels ever:

    the matrix: reloaded
    the matrix: revolutions

I still think they might have had a decent sequel if they'd stuck to making one sequel instead of splitting the script and making a trilogy.

    Shame we'll never know.

Yep, they wanna do a sequel
Tony Scott keeps talking about the guys that fly the remote drones

    Not exactly high-G excitement though

remakes seem like more of an insult to me

sequels are just like hey we want to ride this brand name into moneysville

remakes are like oh we can do this old movie better (and ride the brand name into moneysville)

Yeah, remakes definitely tend to get my blood pressure rising more, especially when it's a move I loved as a kid.

I can't imagine what they will make this about. Maverick is now an instructor?

They only want like a cameo by Tom Cruise, or at most a small supporting role

    Yeah, that was pretty excellent.

It really depends on who does it and what attitude they have going in

Most of them seem like they exist only to add more shock value and remove any subtlety the original had

unless you went into the theatre expecting it to be the boost that Tom Cruise's career needed and make people forget about him being a couch-jumping Xenu-hating freak

Both are excellent examples in the genre and I love both, but come on.... Heathers

Is Heathers "Our love is God, let's get a Squishee"?

    If so, yes.

    If no, maybe.

Well in the strictest terms it's a new franchise and it did absurdly well so yes.

    Oh shit. Lisbeth.

I really would have never predicted that casting choice.

To be clear, I think it's awesome. I would have been annoyed if it was just another generic actresses we've seen a million times only chosen for their looks like Kate Beckinsale or something.

It's necessary in the same sense that a threesome with two supermodels is "necessary".

I hear Warner Bros. is looking to remake the goddamn Wizard of Oz. Except they'll keep the same script for the most part or some such just new actors. And maybe instead of going from black and white to color it will go from standard def. to HD or even 3D. Either way, just reading that made me flip over a table and book a ticket to LA to take that place apart brick by yellow brick.

I'm surprised Wizard of Oz remake took so long to be honest.

    Oz doesn't count.
