This your Jackie Chan Adventures Appreciation Thread.
Jackie Chan Adventures is a solid toon that aired from 2000 to 2005. It is a show about a highly fictionalized version of real-life chop socky action star Jackie Chan. In the cartoon, Jackie is an archeologist who also has friends in a secret agent uh...agency called Section 13. Jackie is also a master of martial arts in the cartoon and they do a pretty good job of representing his trademark action style in cartoon form. In a couple of episodes, they even manage to get him to do drunken master style, but it being caused by him being loopy from snake venom or cold medicine instead of booze because hey, it's a kids' cartoon.
Jackie himself also appears at the end of each show, answer a kids' fan question like what kind of food does he like and why does he do his own stunts.
Joining Jackie is his niece, Jade Chan. Jade is a typical cartoon precocious little kid who just wants to have fun and tag along with Jackie on his adventures. She is always getting into trouble, but often helps out too. It's best to try to ignore her antics most of the time, because she's just kinda irritating.
The absolute best part of the show and breakout star is Uncle. He is Jackie's uncle, runs an antiques shop, and is a chi wizard. He is an awesome angry old man who pretty much always kicks ass. He is quite unflappable and is always there to cast good magic. Magic must defeat magic!
Together, they battle the forces of the Dark Hand, an international crime syndicate. Their leader, Valmont, gives the orders and is an all around bad guy.
His enforcer lieutenant, Tohru, is a lot of guy. He's a huge fellow who hates fish.
He is joined by three other enforcers. Ratso, Finn, and Chow. They are your typical bumbling henchmen. Finn is voiced by Adam Baldwin!
And they all take their marching orders from Shendu, mystical demon dragon sorcerer of ages past.
The forces of good and evil battle for control of the 12 mystical talismans, each representing a sign of the Chinese zodiac and granting magical powers. For example, the snake talisman grants invisibility while the rabbit talisman gives super speed.
It's a fun cartoon with magic and action. It went on for five seasons, with each season bringing new bad guys and magical objects, such as dragon demons and oni masks. They did a pretty good job of keeping it fresh by introducing those new elements each season, instead of just keeping the same stuff going the whole time.
And now, it's on Netflix streaming, available to watch on your PC or home game console of choice. One of these days, I wanna do an Xbox Netflix party thing and watch some episodes with a bunch of people.
