I cannot, for the life of me, kill that stupid dude who confronts me and wants me to desecrate the ashes. Suggestions for party and tactics to take him down are welcome. I'm playing a dual-weapon rogue, level 11 currently. I tried fighting him with Leliana, Morrigan and Shale, but the mages fucked us three ways to Sunday and if I tried to take the mages out first then inevitably one or two of the party would be dropped during that because I was running so low on healing.
So I suppose an easy way to get more health poultices would be nice, too. Shops only sell a couple at a time...

An actual healer would probably be helpful. Also, a better tank than Shale in conjunction with a healer. You could also just have Morrigan make masses of healing potions.

Who's an actual healer? And I've used up all my roots making as many potions and I could - I used most of them up fighting to the damn boss battle. That whole section is too fucking big. It was like oh okay here's a cathedral I'll just stroll up to the altar- oh okay I need to find a key.... oh okay lots of passages but here's a key... oh man a lot more hallways, but here's the real altar... wait what more passages?! okay fine a cavern, great.... okay more caverns... oh here's a big cavern with some sort of alta- what not again! another altar- FUCK.... let's go this way - oh this is ridiculous! (five million years later I get to the boss fight)

An actual healer is any Mage with the healing spell and Spirit Healer spec. Wynne is intended to be that, but you can make Morrigan that easily enough.

Wynne is an actual healer. You get her from helping the Circle. Failing that, though, by level 11, Alistair can be a pretty decent tank, provided he has shield wall and you can give Morrigan some healing. That can be a tough fight either way, but healing is usually pretty useful. You'll probably need to have Leliana and Morrigan do some running and you should also learn to temper your use of big damage offensive spells until you have a tank that can draw agro back away from your mages. And get cone of cold for Morrigan if you don't have it already. Abuse it if all else fails.
Is it worth rolling a rogue? That fast dual wield gameplay looks delicious.
I don't know if I'd say it is or not. In some ways, a backstabbing rogue is less involved than a sword and shield warrior. You just put them in place and let them auto-attack since special abilities don't backstab.
Alternatively, go buy the spirit healer manual from the magic store in denerim and make morrigan take it for the 2nd specialization at level 14.
And you can buy unlimited elfroot for healing potions in the elf area, and unlimited vials and that other thing for higher level potions from bohdan. And also, unlimited lyrium for magic potions at the mage tower
A bit curious for those more in the know about Dragon Age 2 than I am. I've read the previews and such but find a bit hard to come to any conclusions (like they aren't really saying anything officially :I ).
But then I've heard a few things I think here and a few other places where people have been more direct about how things have changed to be more action-y. Which I really don't mind, but since we are nearing the end of the pre-order area. I'm debating whether to go PC or PS3/360.
I'm on a Mac and it isn't that great for gaming. It ran DA fine, but I have no idea how it will handle DA2 (I'm guessing not so hot..?). I'm curious if people have input, if it might be worth switching over if one has a crappy PC or nah?
If you do, and you like saving oodles of money, I would strongly consider a decent PC. You can get a pretty good one for around $500-600 these days, probably even less if you shop smart.
My main point though is that the Steam Sales are going to kick in in like five days and you'll easily pick up, like, 20 - 30 good games for maybe $250 or so. Probably way less.
So it looks like they removed friendly fire from AoE spells? Hopefully they did. I always felt that, despite the touch of realism it provided, that feature made the game way less fun because it was much too restrictive for the mages to ever truly unleash.
I find it hard to believe they got rid of friendly fire. More likely they were just playing on a lower difficulty setting.
But, yeah, I'm not a huge fan of friendly fire, either. At least for spells like Glyph of Paralysis and things.
Yeah, AoE damage spells like fire are fine and well within realism, but I always hated when someone in my party would run through a paralysis glyph and the like. I wish they'd bend the rules for strategic buffs and debuffs just a bit.
Also coming in before the doomcloud to say Im really looking forward and liking the changes.
Cool looking and very fast, even in the "pause and play" strategic mode. Consider my biggest fear eased, and I am definitely looking forward to the game.
Now can you PLEASE get that "think like a general, fight like a Spartan" crap off the website! UGH!
I liked how different characters had different ways of using the same skill.
Hawke and Varric both used the same bomb skill, and Hawke did some fancy footwork to kick it over to the enemies, while Varric attached it to a bolt and fired it from his crossbow. It's a neat little touch.
And the tagline has just annoyed the shit out of me since I first heard it and I won't be getting over it, that is until it's removed from the website and whomever thought it up is impaled outside the BioWare studios as a warning to anyone else that might try something similar in the future.

Well I'll be damned.
1) PC gameplay, amazing to actually see it for once.
2) I can see how they've compensated for the lack of an isometric camera, by having the highlight on spells (looks like it puts a big red triangle over what you've targeted).
Pace being faster than DA looks solid at the same time.

Only people with nothing better to do desecrate the ashes.
Here's why Leliana's allright with me:
Seriously... I can deal with the whole eyelash thing.

I know that this is a post-game addon but I'm curious about which ending it uses?
Does the Witch Hunt pack follow the Morrigan ending? Because I haven't seen that yet and I don't want to spoil anything for myself.
Depends on your import character (or new Warden), and whether or not you romanced Morrigan. You (can) get a semi-sweet ending if you did romance her.

Calling it now, this isn't really going to be an RPG. It's just a dressed up action game.
