While the combat is a bit over the top I think it'll allow for some diversity in the classes' skills and abilities. And the camera angle seems like the low isometric view from The Witcher, I like it myself.
1) PC gameplay, amazing to actually see it for once.
2) I can see how they've compensated for the lack of an isometric camera, by having the highlight on spells (looks like it puts a big red triangle over what you've targeted).
Pace being faster than DA looks solid at the same time.
Uh...they've had that in the original...

Well. Hmmm.
Now, I don't mind DA2 being an action game. As it so happens, I like action games. A lot. My problem is and always was the potential for it to be a bad action game. Like Jade Empire. Or the first Mass Effect. I think I need to see more of it, but the action gameplay looks really uninteresting. Like it's trying to do what Dungeon Siege 3 is trying to do, but without the stuff about Diablo that makes Diablo fun.
The pausing gameplay looks great, though, assuming the difficulty balanced with it as the default. If it's balanced for action as the default, the game's going to give no incentive to actually strategize, since it'll probably be faster to just button mash through.

I've never really noticed it - having played the game entirely from top down from the start. I noticed it then because it was obscenely obvious in that video, which is quite a good thing. It basically looks a lot more overall entertaining to watch than DA does in combat.

As opposed to the balance issue people (apparently) have with mages in the 1st one?

Which is also a problem. I don't think anyone would say otherwise.
Personally, I like how in dragon age 2, you can no longer equip your companions with armor, and the armor penetration mechanic doesn't exist at all.
I also like how I can't equip a different weapon if I don't have the class-specific skill for it. Hey, why have interesting roles the player can discover for themselves? We're trying to STREAMLINE this shit right? Being hard restricted to a staff as a mage keeps the player ROLEPLAYING. Like a roleplaying game. Right?
Oh hey, what about friendly fire, I remember being pretty miffed at hurting my party members when I'd open a firey gate to hell above them. There is no friendly fire? GREAT!!!!
What about missing, you know, I missed a lot in dragon age when I wouldn't buff dexterity, oh wait, in DA 2 I CANT MISS?!?!?!? HOW AWESOME IS THAT!!!! Oh, and even if the game bugs out and I miss, I CAN'T TELL BECAUSE THERE ISN'T A COMBAT LOG! HOW AWESOME IS THAT, VSOVE, YOU GUYS ARE MAKING THE BEST GAME.
Thats a hallmark of all great rpgs. W00t, DAY 1.

I don't really give a shit about the equipment restrictions because the first game was terrible in this regard. WOOO I PICKED A CHEST FOR A HEALTH POULTICE. Not to mention I end up using the same things ever game because of the lack of decent things out of a few weapons and similar. I can't recall the last time I didn't have Juggernaught Armor in a playthrough. Plus NPCs having their own specific equipment is something I've always preferred. I will be annoyed if I cannot equip Hawke as I feel like.
Edit: Then again, Hawke isn't my character so I probably can't.

I don't disagree that the whole mage thing isn't unbalanced as heck, but there are quite a few silly gooses on these forums who say that that imbalance is a key part in making the gameplay of DAO, and I quote "shitty (yes I said shitty)." In the VG industry thread recently, but it has been expressed quite a few times in this thread as well.

If this was the official forum we'd be whining there wasn't a romance option with your sister.
DAO was balanced somewhere between a balanced party composition and 3 mages + shale + barkspawn mod
Fuck yes I named my dog Barkspawn
Anyways the ridiculous power imbalance between mages and the other classes meant that if you weren't rocking 1-3 mages, you were playing wrong. Which is dumb. This isn't nerd-raging, this is noting that Bioware screwed the pooch on one of two levels - either they mistakenly made mages wtf strong, or they didn't think it necessary to tell the players YO BITCHES PLAY A MAGE AND GO TO THE TOWER FIRST AND GATHER YOUR OTHER COMPANIONS SO THAT THEY CAN TELL YOU SHIT IN CAMP. Capslocked for truth.
I'm going to buy reddeath a razor for Christmas so that he can shave his neckbeard.
reddeath: What is this flimsy slip of metal?
Dashui: It's a razor. you shave with it.
reddeath: Shave! Any warrior worth his salt keeps his beard! That's what I keep telling Alistair.
Dashui: It's matted! It has stale food stuck in it!
reddeath: Oh, so that's where that bit of herring got to. Anyway, it keeps my face warm. It doesn't have to be pretty.

Having played (and enjoyed) the game a few times through... I have to say the trip using a Blood Mage was what-the-fuh-mages! ridiculous. Sure, it did in fact feel like part of the flavor of the world that magic is powerful and something that people would rightly fear... but from a gameplay perspective I felt I was gimping myself using a party without a mage (or three).

My party consisted of myself as a shield warrior or dual wielding, Alistair as a shield warrior, Wynne as a healer and Leliana as my rogue. Wynne rarely cast many large attack spells. Even without her, once I leveled up I was invincible. More mages just made an easy game easier.
Anyway, speaking of reddeath one last time before I go to bed, I do like - aside from half or more his post being conjecture and the other half being changes Mass Effect 2 had - how he goes off on large, angry rants about BioWare as a company but in the Mass Effect thread he loves them. Here? BioWare is terrible! They're watering down the genre by destroying its quality and intelligence! They're just full of corporate masters and yes men who care only about profit! There? I can't wait for Mass Effect 3! It's going to be so exciting! Is it holiday 2011 yet? BioWare makes great games and I've never been disappointed by one yet! Shit, man, how about some consistency? Of course, one can be disappointed with one of their titles and excited about another, but at the very least have some maturity or dignity when dealing with your disappointment. It's just a video game.

This, this right here. I have a party of the baddest motherfuckers from all corners of the planet, but if I chose to be a stalwart dwarf warrior and to have my fellow drunk accompany me into battle, and my loyal steed Barkspawn, if I don't bring the old bag from the tower with a spellbar full of heal spells... the game is near-impossible
edit @ Dashui, burliest of bears - I'm not saying this game is hard, just that it's annoying that you *must* either be a healer or have the one healing character in the game along with you, who disapproves of you being an asshole as is your mighty bearded birthright

If I had time, and enjoyed the feeling of having my teeth pulled, I would try and play the game with three Templar + dog. I think that party could do it.
But really, my playthrough with 2 warriors, a thief and wynne just doing buffs and healing was way better paced than when I abused cone of cold and the like
You know what always kind of irks me in fantasy games? They never have real infantry combat tactics - they never ever use pikemen. It's as though nobody ever realized hmmmm we could make some long pointy sticks that are easy to push at people, and are highly effective in tight groups hmmmm it's almost like we could expect a battle line to hold against a charge like that rather then dispersing into a bloody melee hmmm
Makes even less sense when you have mages that can rain down fireballs into the darkspawn held at bay by the pikemen

Shield and spear would be pretty cool. I do like that in some games, although most screw up the presentation by having the character flail the spear around like your average sword. Let me jab, jab, jab, not swing!

If someone sat down and worked out the logistics of how magic would fit into the theory of medieval battlefield tactics and then made a game out of it, I would buy that game and I would play it.
But nobody will. Because there are no logistics to magic. Because it's fucking magic.
But seriously is there some crafting or modification of items and things down the line
Given that they are reducing the amount of equipment in DA2, probably not.
Wouldn't that be the other way around? Less items mean more modifications? Even if it's just plain +numbers with no trade offs, and pretty much required to keep enemy scaling from being silly, like in a certain other game.

Good. Shit got out of hand on the first level. Don't fucking make me scrounge around for spare change and shitty stuff to sell, let me fight fucking dragons who guard huge hoards of gold and swords because this is a fantasy game and I am the star.
If I wanted to grind gnolls for potion money, I'd reinstall WoW
Edit heh revenant scaling in DAO got pretty fucking hilarious when you were midlevel. There was this magic point, IIRC, where its offensive capabilities were such that it would eat Wynne alive in a heartbeat if it waltzed over to her.
Oh no, reddeath doesn't approve and is being sarcastic. Whatever shall I do.
Nothing for it, I must seek the warm embrace of death.
vsove can I fuck my sister
I think female Hawke should be able to fuck her sister but male Hawke should be able to fuck his brother.
And they both ought to be able to fuck their mom.
This is the sort of shit you get from people when you start putting gays in your games. Fucking Leliana and Zevran were the beginning of the fucking end.
