I will say this about the City Elf origin -- Its way better if your character is female. The subject matter of this particular origin is such that a woman experiencing it is way more compelling than if it happens to a man.
The other origins it doesn't really matter. You can pick either warrior or rogue for any of them.
If you pick Mage, you get the Mage origin story no matter what race you are. Mages always get the mage origin. There's no way around it.
-Dexterity is useful for Tanks over anything else followed by strength
This is completely untrue. Dexterity is worthless for a tank past the 26 it takes to max out your weapon and shield talents. Defense itself is a pretty shitty stat since attack's growth outpaces defense pretty universally and warrior weapons don't benefit from the stat. You're better off maximizing your tank's armor and mitigating as much damage as possible rather than trying to avoid it. High strength will let you wear heavier armor while increasing your damage and not having high dex won't hurt at all.
Has anyone in the history of ever ever used the qunari companion? He's so insignificant to me I can't even remember his name. There's just so many more interesting characters than him.
I mean, melee spots are pretty limited in my parties anyway. Hell, I typically don't even use Oghren even though he's totally awesome, simply because there's no room for him in the party.
I can't even fathom why anyone would willingly take the boring old qunari guy with them.

He's not really boring, that's why. He even has a sense of humor and makes jokes with some pretty deadpan delivery.
im fairly sure this is old concept art from dragon age way back when, i remember that bridge being part of a lot of early builds/concepts of the game with that canyon and it never ended up in origins.

What are you talking about? Sten is one of the better written companions, and unlike some *coughMorrigancough*, if you disagree with him you can tell him to shut the hell up and he respects you for it. Not to mention he actually has a fairly interesting backstory and personality, especially his exchanges with Morrigan.

It's DA2 concept art.
Given the huge battle taking place under the bridge in the early prototype builds of the first game, it could have easily been a proto-Ostagar. And anyway, you can see roads like that all over DAO. they're the imperial highways the Tevinter Imperium built. It would make sense that they wouldn't just build them in Ferelden.
Hmm. I dunno. Just right from the get-go I have never been interested in him. I mean, Oghren who fills the same party role just grips me right away as being interesting.
And I typically want a rogue in my party which means 9 out of 10 times I'll have either Leliana or Zevran in my party anyway and I don't have a warrior at all.
Wynne makes it into every party cause she's the healer. Morrigan has a high chance of making it too, since mages are so OP. That leaves room for a tank and my main character and that's it. There's just no room for a DPS warrior.

That's great, but he's still not a boring character. I'm sure he'd apologize for not being a wacky drunk dwarf stereotype if he could.

-Mages are ez-mode. You can recruit 2 and be one yourself if you choose to make the game a cakewalk
-Constitution is useless, never put points into it
-Dexterity is useful for Tanks over anything else followed by strength
-Auto-attack is almost always more DPS than any activated abilities
Alright, cool, thanks for the advice guys. I'm going to go City Elf Female then, even if they are poor.
If auto attack is superior, I suppose all the passive boosts, or status attacks are what I want to go? Probably going to go two hander, and put everything into dexterity/strength with weighing towards the latter. Though is persuasion related to anything you need to put points into/worth it?
You don't have to bring him around all the time to get his dialog. Personally, I just brought the characters that I felt served me best into the dungeons and got the character conversations in cities while I'm buying junk. Most of the characterization will be from campfire conversations anyway so it's not like you lose anything by not using the party members that suck at fighting all the time.

I don't know. Sten in particular doesn't really like conversation, and his campfire conversations don't always reflect his core personality as much as the persona he assumes when he finds you in equal parts sort of frustrating and sort of amusing. Once I started taking him with me on quests, I noticed that he's much more likely to express his opinions in an honest and straightforward manner if it's relevant to the situation. I actually liked having him around a lot, really. It's a shame he's so worthless as a party member in combat.

Alright guys, so I am literally 2 trophies away from my platinum trophy on this game. I'm missing Master Warden and Blight-Queller.
I've done a ton of research online trying to figure out why I'm not getting these achievements and no matter what method I try, nothing is seeming to work. Help!
The most common solution I've found online seems to be that that you can take a mage into the Elven Alienage and farm kills over and over with AoE spells. Once you've cleared them out, you save your game to a different slot and then reload into the Alienage.
I've tried this method a bunch. I've probably sunk 2 hours into this, and Master Warden still hasn't popped up, and my mage is definitely the one getting all the kills.
You might be bugged. I was able to easily get all the darkspawn killing stuff in my first run alone, after 2 playthoughs you should have easily hit it.

Yeah. I got both those just playing through the game.
Though you fight tons of darkspawn in the deep roads and during the end game.

Seriously, if you aren't talking to him all the time, you are missing out on some great stuff. Maybe the best stuff.

Sten is great, I almost always use him. He has some absolutely hilarious dialog if you pair him with Leliana. I thought he was just a boring barbarian-type at first too, but if you bother to bring him along and talk to him, it's well worth it.
Not just party banter, but Sten has some of the best interjections in the world, bar none. For example, take him to the docks at Lake Calenhad the first time you go there.
Sten actually has the most extensive camp dialogue available, you just have to get him to open up. Remember, he was sent on a mission to scout the land, so it makes sense that the more he sees, the more he has to say, but if you simply keep him at camp, he won't have observed anything thereby limiting what he might be willing to discuss. Sten is unique in that he gains more topics to talk about in camp when he's made an observation at certain points in the world. Some of these places are...
* When exiting the Redcliffe Chantry for the first time.
* When entering the Circle Tower for the first time.
You can tell you've 'unlocked' these when he makes a comment, such as, "So this is where humans get their wisdom?" or "So this is the prison you keep your mages?" There's another one about kids, but I can't remember where it's triggered.
That's interesting. I did not realize that at all and now I'm curious about what more he would have to say. I just wish he wasn't so awful at fighting.

Just different from the usual bow and scraping towards mages that goes on in the fantasy genre.

They thing with Sten is that he has THE BEST dialogue with Morrigan. It is amazing.

All right, people. It is not a gerbil. It is not a hamster. It is not a guinea pig. It is a death rabbit. Death. Rabbit. Say it with me, now.
...Why did I let you out of that cage again?
I don't really like that choice of endings, but I can't see how the import would work without it.

hey hey now, Oghren's pretty funny in Awakening

In response to the spoiler: Yep. It isn't magic, it is just effectively changing the choice you made at the end of the game.
His culture doesn't either...:?
