They need to show more stuff like this, because after viewing that, no one should complain that Dragon Age 2 is ugly. It looked so much more improved than Origins. I also approve of this character.
Really? because my first thought on looking at it was how horribad the textures were. Especially when he used the bow. Even worse than ME2's non-combat NPCs.
So having finished off DA for the first time I have a few thoughts.
I would never have bought the Feast Day gift DLC but I was pretty glad to have it.
I guess the rapid healing after battles is necessary in this day and age but I think that it contributed to the over long dungeons and made those dungeons more tedious by breaking them up into discrete encounters with no connection. That is, there was no reward for taking on a minor encounter in an efficient way since any damage you took would just be erased.
Maybe I just left my Willpower too low but it seemed like I was always starved for stamina. Basically, I just used a few sustains and then stuns when needed to get to backstabbing.
After ME2 the personal side quests seemed almost comically short.
Was it just me, or are 1 main hand weapons in great supply while 2 handers were a bit harder to come by and I seemed to need to buy good daggers? Also Heavy armor seemed to be in great supply.

That's not entirely fair, it's not like ME2 had that much other than personal side quests.
And maybe there's more with DLC weapons, but I was swimming in top tier 2H weapons while having just enough 1H ones

The animation is much better though.
More importantly it wasn't even the actual game, but a cut scene (if in-engine). You can't draw any conclusion good or bad from that.

My problem with the game is them (apparently) cutting the toolset. The visuals are just fine. Part 1's were fine. But cut scenes should not be used to judge a game in any way. If you disagree, well, ok then.

But...when was the last bioware game that used different assets between gameplay and "cut scenes"? Heck, conversations "cut scenes" are half the gameplay!
Besides, aren't cutscenes usaully generally better quality than gameplay?

They said they were looking to update the Origins toolset to work with Dragon Age 2, not that it was cut outright. With how popular the toolset was, I'm cautiously hopeful we'll see it for Dragon Age 2, just not right away.

Yeah, I can't wait for some custom sex scenes and for someone to redesign the faces of every NPC in the game.
Is anybody else getting an Ezio vibe from Sebastian (Exiled Prince)?
Accent and bow use aside.
He's 90% likely to be from Antiva and Antiva is basically Italy with spanish accents so yes.
Yeah that's pretty clearly a Scottish accent.
We've also seen Antivans with Russian accents. I'm not convinced that there's any rhyme or reason to it. I wasn't suggesting the accent was the relevant part, but rather the Italy part.
Antiva is a loose confederation dominated by merchants with mercenary armies, much like Italy of the time except slightly more unified.. And this Exiled Prince is trying to track down Assassins hiding in the Free Marches. Based on Zevran's stories, the Antivan Crows have fucked up the Antivan Royalty at LEAST a few times.
The only difference between the 'game' and 'cutscenes' is, well, the cinematic direction (camera angles and the like). Visual quality (textures and everything) are identical.
And Sebastian is not from Antiva.

I noticed some of the texture problems that the first game had, like the fur in the dude's collar. Which is a weird contrast, because some of the background buildings and his armor look great.
Based on what I've seen, looks like a pretty significant improvement over DAO, and I think some of the stylistic changes will hide some of the imperfections in the engine.
Really it's fine. People need to stop acting like someone has threatened to cut off their genitals if they don't buy DA2.

I was thinking about making an actual pre-order myself. But then the Steam sale happened and now I don't have any cash to spend for a while.
Oh well. I'm still getting tons of enjoyment from DA: O. I think I'll just keep playing it and wait for DA2 Ultimate to come out. I bought both DA: O and ME 2 at release, both superduper editions and then I've bought a lot of DLC for both games. I don't really want to add all of that up. And I don't think I'm going to do it again, even though I'm excited about DA 2.
I want to preorder to get the special edition bonuses, but its not up on any digital distribution services that are worthwhile and I'll be at school when it comes out so I can't just get it from Amazon. Ugh, I think I'm going to have to see if I can wade through Gamestop's online preordering system and make it let me pick it up at the gamestop near my school.
If not I'm just forgetting about the signature edition entirely, bonus weapons are meh and the character just doesn't sound worth the hassle of getting this from not-Steam.
The only reason I preordered was I figured it's a good deal w/ all the bonuses. Glad it's not out till March though so I can clear out my backlog til then.
I've just read "The Big Short" which is about the whole subprime mess and now I know how I'll get rich.
I'll start up trading in DA2 preorder cancellation swaps. That way people can get the satisfaction of canceling their pre-orders without actually having to pre order. Those taking the other side of the trade will be able to install the DLC twice.
I'll be sad though when everyone in this thread is arrested by the SEC for trying to manipulate my market's prices.

I will securitize your preorder cancellation swaps into collateralized cancellation obligations!
For the benefits of my investors, I will divide my CCO into tranches of indignation depending on my own subjective and completely inconsistent ratings. The "Dialogue wheel, wtf" and "Why can't I customize my Ken doll?!" tranches will be the safest, AAA-ranked tranch, with the least risk of default but the lowest potential yield of indignation. Tranches will get progressively more and more ridiculous until you reach the BBs, where you run into the "Why can't I have sex with Hawke's sister?!" and "Dragon Effect raped and killed my family."
Of course I expect the CCO to default, whereupon I will collect mad loot off of my CCO-swaps and ride off into the sunset while the troll market goes up in flames...
Ok I'll stop now

This is pretty much where I'm at now. It's kind of a shitty place to be, really. Oh well.

Hassle? I don't understand. You order it, get it, install it, and play it. I love Steam, but physical editions aren't much of a hassle, plus you can install it right away instead of waiting for your download to finish if they don't offer pre-loading. You could just pre-order it off Amazon with 99c release-date delivery so you get it right away, too. We also know next to nothing about the character except that he's an exiled prince whose family was murdered. Maybe he'll end up being everyone's favorite companion, with great dialog and a great quest? Since the Signature Edition doesn't cost anything extra right now, why not?

That's my thinking but I guess some people can't physical editions for geographic reasons or something. I only preordered since the upgrade was free, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered.
The best part is I have a terrible memory and concept of time so I know I'm totally going to forget I pre-ordered and then bam, it will be at my door.
I wish I had waited and bought the Ultimate Edition. I don't feel like buying all of the DLC and playing through it since I finished the game so many months ago.

My college mail room is terrible, I often have to wait a week+ before I can get packages that have been delivered from it because they take forever to sort stuff. There is a Gamestop nearby, but I don't go back to school until the day after this offer ends so I'm stuck fiddling with their website trying to find my store. That's why it is slowly not becoming worth it.
so I basically didn't play any of the paid DLC for Dragon Age. I'm looking into getting back into it and just cycled through 360's price lists. It ends up being 59 dollars worth of DLC for all the gameplay content... I can buy Dragon Age ultimate edition for cheaper than that, so that's what I'll probably do.
Anyway, will my save for the original be usable with ultimate edition? I assume it would but it would be kind of a downer if it wasn't.

The character textures in that video were alright. I'm more concerned about whether the scenery/environment textures have been improved, honestly.

I think he's saying that it's relatively easy to make a game look fun and pretty in a cutscene, but what actually matters is real gameplay.
Yeah, I can't wait for some custom sex scenes and for someone to redesign the faces of every NPC in the game.
But I was originally complaining about the IQ of the cutscene!
(FWIW, both DAO and ME2 actually looked better in combat anyway...)
Oh and yeah, I know they said they may update it. I'd happily accept an update to they will.
