I have an extremely noobish question, I apologize in advance here

I have an intel i5 in my laptop

when I go to the task manager and look at performance it is showing me 4 CPUs

or at least, four separate cpu usage screens

the i5 is a dual core, correct?

so why am I seeing 4 cpu usage screens?

some i5's are hyperthreaded, which basically means that each core is split into 2 virtual cores, so windows reports 4 in total. and heres a wikipedia page if you want to know way more technical stuff on how it's done:

i5 can be both quad and dual. It appears you have a quad core.

All mobile i5's have 2 physical cores and are Hyper-Threaded, so 4 logical cores are shown in taskmgr.

Some i5s are also Quad Cores, so it might be that too. gj Intel.

But not the mobile ones - all mobile i5s (4xx and 5xx) are dual-core Arrandale with HT. The quad-core, no HT desktop i5s are 7xx series Lynnfield cores.
